■ Brown bag story to go! Let the children
choose a book they have heard, and have
them put pictures of the characters and
items related to the story in the bag, which
they can decorate to coordinate with the
book theme. Children can pull out the
items over and over again and retell or
expand the story in a fun way.
■ In a brown lunch bag, place a book, along
with a yummy snack, for the child to enjoy
away from home.
■ Have children swap a favorite book with
another child in their class or neighborhood.
Encourage kids to discuss what they’ve read.
