Each year, Jalisco’s universitysystem receives around 7,000 foreign students that live and studyunder excellent conditions. The government of Jalisco and leadinguniversities in the state established the Jalisco Education Group (GEJ,acronym in Spanish) in 2003, with the main purpose of promotingthe establishment of academic initiatives with institutions around theworld and to coordinate activities related to the internationalizationof higher education. They will present DLEI as a modelthat has functional bilingualism for all its students as a goal. Attendeeswill learn how discipline-specific instruction supports vocabulary andconcept development in both languages, and how the instructionalframework maintains equal focus on college-level content andlanguage learning without sacrificing program learning outcomes. Thepresentation will also include a discussion of how the academic modelhas been defined and developed. Through the development of theonline DLEI program, Ameritas hopes to inspire further innovationby providing other institutions with its self-evaluative research.
