Publication norms Av Diabetol 2005; 21(Nº esp.): 38-39Information for the authorsGENERAL INFORMATIONAvances <strong>en</strong> Diabetología publishes sci<strong>en</strong>tific studies, systematicreviews, cons<strong>en</strong>sus, clinical notes and experts' opinions inthe field of diabetes and related diseases, in Spanish or in English.The manuscripts s<strong>en</strong>t for publication in "Avances <strong>en</strong> Diabetología"will be evaluated by at least 2 in<strong>de</strong>p<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>t reviewers, chos<strong>en</strong> bythe Editorial Committee. The authors will receive the evaluation oftheir papers in a period of one month and should make the recomm<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>dchanges within 2 weeks of having received them. If thearticle s<strong>en</strong>t to the authors for changes is not received within theperiod proposed, it will be consi<strong>de</strong>red as a new manuscript on arrival.Review Articles. These collaborations will <strong>de</strong>al with state ofthe arts subjects or those of g<strong>en</strong>eral interest in the field of diabetes.The journal Director will request them from national or internationalexperts.<strong>Diabetes</strong> Seminars. These papers will <strong>de</strong>al with subjectsdirectly related to the common clinical practice in diabetes. Theirobjective is to contribute to continuing training in the field of diabetes.The Editorial Committee will request them from key specialistsin the subject proposed. The same gui<strong>de</strong>lines as <strong>de</strong>tailedfor original articles will be followed for their elaboration.Original Articles. These manuscripts will refer to clinical orexperim<strong>en</strong>tal research studies on diabetes. They will be assessedfor their originality, <strong>de</strong>sign and clear pres<strong>en</strong>tation. They should notexceed eight double-spaced printed pages or a maximum of 3000words that inclu<strong>de</strong> title, text and acknowledgem<strong>en</strong>ts (this does notinclu<strong>de</strong> the summary, refer<strong>en</strong>ces, tables or figures). No more than30 refer<strong>en</strong>ces or more than 4 tables or figures will be allowed. Therecomm<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>d number of authors should not exceed six.Clinical Notes. These manuscripts will be the most a<strong>de</strong>quateto <strong>de</strong>scribe one or more cases of diabetes with exceptional interest.They should be a maximum of 3 printed pages or 1200 words,including title, text and acknowledgem<strong>en</strong>ts. No more than 10 refer<strong>en</strong>cesor 2 tables or figures will be allowed. The number of authorsrecomm<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>d should not exceed four.Letters to the Editor. They will inclu<strong>de</strong> opinions, observationsas clinical experi<strong>en</strong>ces on diabetological aspects of g<strong>en</strong>eralinterest. They should not exceed one page or 400 words, includingtitle and text. No more than 3 refer<strong>en</strong>ces, more than 1 table or figureor more than 2 manuscript signing authors will be allowed.Other sections. “Avances <strong>en</strong> Diabetología” will also inclu<strong>de</strong>other sections such as Editorials, Cons<strong>en</strong>sus Docum<strong>en</strong>ts, Docum<strong>en</strong>tsfrom the Spanish Society of <strong>Diabetes</strong> Work Groups, News,Comm<strong>en</strong>ts on national and international congresses, book reviewsand other information of interest. In g<strong>en</strong>eral, the cont<strong>en</strong>t of thesesections will be established by or<strong>de</strong>r of the journal Director. Wh<strong>en</strong>everpossible, they should be s<strong>en</strong>t in the format accepted forthe remaining articles.Avances <strong>en</strong> Diabetología will not publish studies that havebe<strong>en</strong> published previously or that are simultaneously being consi<strong>de</strong>redfor some type of publication.All the manuscripts should be typed double-spaced and theletter type size used should not be less than 11 points.The manuscripts should be s<strong>en</strong>t by E-mail to Mrs. Carm<strong>en</strong>Rodríguez (carm<strong>en</strong>.rodriguez@ergon.es), secretary of Ergon. Thematrix docum<strong>en</strong>t should be id<strong>en</strong>tified as the main docum<strong>en</strong>t. Tablesand figures should be s<strong>en</strong>t, duly id<strong>en</strong>tified, in separate docum<strong>en</strong>ts.Photographs should be black and white and with excell<strong>en</strong>t quality.The Editorial committee may request, if necessary, that thecomplete paper or some of its parts be pres<strong>en</strong>ted in another specificformat.All the manuscripts should be accompanied by a letter writt<strong>en</strong>by the first author of the study, who will be responsible for it forall effects. The letter should expressly state that the other signersof the paper agree with the publication of the manuscript in theform and cont<strong>en</strong>t s<strong>en</strong>t to the journal Director.Manuscripts will not be admitted in paper form, except un<strong>de</strong>rspecial circumstances. In this case, one original and two copies ofthe complete manuscript, including tables and figures, should bes<strong>en</strong>t to the following address:Dr. F. SpainINFORMATION SPECIFIED FOR THE ELABORATION OF THEARTICLESThe following should be inclu<strong>de</strong>d on the first page of themanuscript:• Title of the paper• Names of the authors (name and complete last name)• Institution where it was done.• Title in English.• Correspond<strong>en</strong>ce Address, E-mail address and contact telephone.• Short title, to print on the heading of the insi<strong>de</strong> pages of thearticle.• Word count, including title, text and acknowledgem<strong>en</strong>ts.• List of acronyms.The second page should inclu<strong>de</strong> the summary, which shouldnot exceed 250 words. The study objective, methodology used, resultsand conclusions reached should be clearly and concisely <strong>de</strong>scribedin it. At the <strong>en</strong>d of the summary, 3-6 key words that <strong>de</strong>fine thefundam<strong>en</strong>tal subject of the paper should be inclu<strong>de</strong>d. Furthermorea summary in English, including the key words in English, shouldbe inclu<strong>de</strong>d on a separate page. These should be equival<strong>en</strong>t to the<strong>de</strong>scriptors of the In<strong>de</strong>x Medicus (Medical Subject Headings, MESH).
