GENERAL NOTES. Lombardini engines are built to provide safe andlonglasting performances, but in order to obtainthese results it is essential that the maintenancerequirements described in the manual areobserved along with the following safetyrecommendations.. The engine has been built to the specifications of amachine manufacturer, and it is his responsibilityto ensure that all necessary action is taken tomeet the essential and legally prescribed healthand safety requirements. Any use of the machineother than that described cannot be consideredas complying with its intended purpose asspecified by Lombardini, which thereforedeclines all responsibility for accidents caused bysuch operations.. The following instructions are intended for the userof the machine in order to reduce or eliminaterisks, especially those concerning the operationand standard maintenance of the engine.. The user should read these instructions carefullyand get to know the operations described. By notdoing so he may place at risk his own health andsafety and that of anyone else in the vicinity ofthe machine.. The engine may be used or mounted on amachine only by personnel suitably trainedin its operation and aware of the dangersinvolved. This is particularly true for standardand, above all, special maintenance work. Forspecial maintenance contact personnel trainedspecifically by Lombardini. This work should becarried out in accordance with existing literature.. Lombardini declines all responsibility foraccidents or for failure to comply with therequirements of law if changes are made to theNORME DI SICUREZZA - NORMES DE SÉCURITÉ - SAFETY REGULATIONSSICHERHEITSVORSCHRIFTEN - NORMAS DE SEGURIDAD - NORMAS DE SEGURANÇAengine’s functional parameters or to the fuel flowrate adjustments and speed of rotation, if sealsare removed, or if parts not described in theoperating and maintenance manual are removedand reassembled by unauthorized personnel.WARNING. In addition to all other machine specifications, ensure that the engine is in a near horizontalposition when starting. lf starting manually, ensure that the necessary operations can beperformed without any risk of striking againstwalls or dangerous objects. Rope starting(except for recoil rope starting) is not permittedeven in emergencies.. Check that the machine is stable so that there isno risk of it overturning.. Get to know the engine speed adjustment andmachine stop operations.. Do not start the machine in closed or poorlyventilated environments. The internal combustionprocess generates carbon monoxide, anodourless and highly toxic gas, so spending toolong a time in an environment where the enginedischarges its exhaust products freely can lead toloss of consciousness and even death.. The engine may not be used in environmentscontaining flammable materials, explosiveatmospheres or easily combustible powders, unless adequate and specific precautions havebeen taken and are clearly stated and certified forthe machine.. To prevent the risk of fire, keep the machine at adistance of at least one metre from buildings orother machines.. Children and animals must be kept at a sufficientdistance from the machine to prevent any dangerresulting from its operation.. Fuel is flammable, so the tank must be filled onlywhen the engine is turned off. Dry carefullyany fuel that may have spilled, remove the fuelcontainer and any cloths soaked in fuel or oil, check that any sound-absorbing panels madeof porous material are not soaked with fuel oroil, and make sure that the ground on which themachine is located has not absorbed fuel or oil.. Before starting, remove any tools that have beenused for carrying out maintenance work to theengine and/or the machine and check that anyguards removed have been replaced. In coldclimates it is possible to mix kerosene with thediesel fuel to make the engine easier to start. The liquids must be mixed in the tank by pouringin first the kerosene and then the diesel fuel.Consult Lombardini technical office for mixtureproportions. Petrol may not be used because ofthe risk of it forming flammable vapours.. During operation the surface of the engine reachestemperatures that may be dangerous. Avoid inparticular all contact with the exhaust system.. The liquid cooling circuit is under pressure. Donot carry out any checks before the engine hascooled down, and even then open the radiatorcap or the expansion tank cautiously. Wearprotective clothing and glasses. lf there is anelectric fan, do not approach the engine while itis still hot as the fan may come on even when theengine is not running. Clean the cooling systemwith the engine turned off.. While cleaning the oil bath air filter, check that theoil is disposed of in such a way as not to harmthe environment. Any filtering sponges in the oilbath air filter should not be soaked with oil. Thecyclone pre-filter cup must not be filled with oil.28 UM LDW 492 DCI _ cod. ED0053029570 - 1° ed_rev. 00
