EL MERCADO DE LA CARNE PORCINA EN COREA DEL SURWhen the exporting country wants to renew the exportation to Korea, it is required thenegotiation between the authorities of the two countries.5. The slaughter houses, processing plants and storage (here in after referred to as theexport processing plant) should meet the following requirements.A. The export processing plant should be duly registered according to the relevantregulation of the exporting country and that has been advised and approved by theKorean authority through her proper sanitary inspections or other means.B. The export processing plant should be under sanitary supervision of the exportingcountry and should not have abnormality on the periodical sanitary inspectionsconducted by the relevant authority of the exporting country.C. The processing plant should not be located in the area where there has beencontamination by such diseases as mentioned in the clause 3, and during the period ofmanufacturing the pork products to export to Korea, there should not be treated anyanimals or their by-products imported from or bypassed through the countries whereKorea does not authorize the importation of animals and theirs by-products of speciesof swine.D. The export processing plant that has exported pork products to Korea should retain fornot less than 2 years the original documents regarding daily slaughter, processing andstorage records together with the relevant of the original pig farms.6. The pork products, that are expected to be exported to Korea, should meet the followingrequirements.A. The export pork products shall be the product from the healthy swine classified by theveterinarian of the exporting country through ante and post mortem inspections donewithin the export processing plant and should be fit for human consumption,particularly should be free of trichinosis, echinococcus hydatid disease and taeniasis asa result of the inspection.B. When the slaughter, dissection, processing, packing and storage is being done toproduce the export pork products, there should not be processed other animals andtheir by-products that have inferior sanitary conditions at the same processing place.C. The export pork products should not contain excessive quantity of residual materials,depending on the standard permission (principally through Korean Standard), thatmay be harmful to the human health, such as antibiotics, synthetic antibacterium,hormones, pesticides, heavy metals and radioactive, as well as pathogenicOficina Económica y Comercial de la Embajada de España en Seúl. 68

The export pork products should not be allowed the ionized orultraviolet treatment or use of meat softener, which will produce a reverse effect tothe characteristics of the swine meat.D. The export pork products should be handled through hygienic methods so as toprevent its contamination with any agents known to cause infection diseases. Thepacking materials for products should be of hygienic ones which may not be harmfulto human body. The indication number of the processing plant should be sealed onthe products and on the package, and also should be sealed “approval mark” on bothof them, that means the products are processed by the proper hygienic method. Theapproval mark should be the same one that has been notified to the Korean Authorityin advance.7. The exporting country should submit to Korean Government annually the reports aboutthe prevention program against the harmful residual materials within edible meats and theresults of performed exercises in English or in Korean Language, in which should beincluded the names of inspection institutions and facilities, manpower, annual inspectionplan, inspection methods and results, and the sale volume of veterinary medicines forswine uses.8. The export pork products should be sealed under the supervision of governmentveterinarian official and be transported safely not to be contaminated by infectiousdiseases and prevented from deterioration, decomposition so as not to be harmful forhuman health until its arrival to Korea. During the transportation of the products it shouldnot pass through the area where Korea does not allow the importation of swine and theirproducts, except a simple call for refuelling.9. The official veterinarian of the exporting country should issue a Sanitary Certificate inEnglish or in Korean language with the contents of the following details, before theshipment of the exported pork.(1) The points mentioned in the clauses 1,2,3,5 (A, B and C) and 6.(2) Products name, packing method, unit packing quantity and weight (net weight in thelast processing plant).(3) Names, addresses and approval numbers of the slaughter house, processing plants andstorage houses.(4) - Carcasses swine meat: period of slaughter (dates of beginning and finishing).Oficina Económica y Comercial de la Embajada de España en Seúl. 69
