GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED A PROGRAM TO BOOST THE SOLAR<br />

INDUSTRY IN CHILE<br />

President Michelle Bachelet launched recently the “Solar Energy Program:<br />

Transforma Solar”, which seeks to boost the development of this technology<br />

in the country, as well as to train professionals in this subject, and to generate<br />

services and projects of this kind related to other sectors of the domestic<br />

economy. In the activity, which involved the participation of the Ministry of<br />

Economy, Luis Felipe Cespedes, the Ministry of Energy, Maximo Pacheco,<br />

and the Vice President of Corfo, Eduardo Bitran, the details of the program<br />

were presented: a plan of 50 projects and a budget of US$800 million, which<br />

would be provided in equal parts by the public and the private sectors. The<br />

program seeks to use solar radiation in order to address the need of providing<br />

efficient power solutions to increase the competitiveness of other national<br />

industries.<br />
