If they tell us to dream but only if our dreams belong to their standards, then,
what is the point of dreaming?
I don’t know about you, but for years I’ve always had that fear of my ideas
being rejected by my parents just because they don’t like them, and that if I
follow my own path, they’ll be incredibly dissatisfied. I’m just pretending to
be myself; they’d always told me to be myself, but if I wanna talk about what
I’m expecting to do with my life once I finish school or the things I really like,
then it seems like I cannot be me… “What was that I wanted? Now I’m
scared, where have the fragments of my dream gone? Agust D.
Stigma, a word that unconsciously is part of our daily life, a word that makes a
huge difference in our decisions, a word that we all are afraid of, aren’t we?
Some people may think that it’s totally normal, but when you realise the
impact that all these stereotypes and stuff have on our society, then we see
that stigma is the worst nightmare of any dreamer, another tear for misery,
the endless game for the tired player. Well, thanks to all the pressure that
society has over us, we can suffer different types of mental disorders, such
as depression, paranoia, adhd, among others. So, knowing this, do you think
that we should minimize the fact that we are always being criticized?
“Who is the one who made us into study machines? Who do you think is the
one who makes us step on even our close friends to climb up?” M.Y.G
To sum up, as a person that now and then feels that society is telling her to
dream based on stupid ideas of what a “Successful person” is, anytime you
feel like you’re not good enough, remember that you, only you are the one
who really knows your skills and abilities; and that if you wanna be a singer,
dancer, shoeshiner, stripper, whatever you want to, it’s ok! If that’s what
makes you happy, keep going.
