The relaxing environment and the refreshing swimming place were superb especiallyfor outside fun. The kids too were shown a well-maintained playground placesalongside a picnic area with barbeque grills. The atmosphere that afternoon was verycalm, as the sun was shining, givingpeople an opportunity to participate indifferent activities such as volleyball, football and swimming. Others went fora little excursion in the forest, and theydescribed the island as breathtaking, asit is such beautiful countryside natureclose to the city. After a range of activities, tours, sportsas well as relaxation and chatting weventured to a common kitchen where weprepared the meal. As every single picnicker brought up something to eat, it wasmagnificent to taste a variety of flavors of food including both Finnish andTanzanian traditions, e.g. makkaraa, Karjalan piirakka and nyama choma. The foodwas delicious!Indeed, our tour was short, but we had a couple of hours of free time to exploremore on our own, in this one of thousands of beautiful Finnish islands. Without adoubt the picnic was fabulous and it was very nice to be able to watch the sunsetover the far away island in this relaxed atmosphere. Some even managed to take anap on island’s beautiful grassland.Because of this fantastic but shortexperience, it was sad to hear anannouncement at a time when we didn’texpect it: “the last boat is due toarrive…please collect your belongingsand be at the harbor on time.” As wedidn’t have any other option we had toleave the place although we still wantedto stay. We just headed back to theharbor and boarded the boat for the tripback to the mainland.Text and picturesDennis Londo7
