144 . ETUDE DES soLs DU COMTÉ DE NICOLET Les engrais chimiques commerciaux sont employés sur plusieurs fermes, mais la chaux est encore beaucoup trop peu appliquee. Le fumier de ferme sert tout particulièrement à engraisser les sols plus légers. Les sols du comté de Nicolet furent groupés en cinq classes selon leur pro- ductivité, leur facilité d’exploitation et leur degré de conservation. La carte (No 5) indique dune manière générale la distribution de ces classes. En con- sidérant l’échelle de la carte et la généralisation nécessaire à apporter sur une telle carte, il est évident qu’elle ne peut être employée pour les estimés d’une ferme en particulier.
