Strictly speaking, the sound of a HiFi system
comes from the socket. For everything which we
hear has its origin there.
Ideally, the mains voltage should be constant and
free from interferences.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. The mains
voltage delivered is anything but stable and givesin
to the constantly changing demands.
On top of this come glitches, e.g. caused by highfrequency
transmission systems, which also use
the lines of the electricity supply system.
This is exacerbated by the use of cheap mains
leads and mains blocks.
These possess relatively high transmission
resistance, which leads to voltage loss.
Furthermore, they behave like antennas, capturing
all kinds of interference such as electro magnetic
(EM) radiation from all kinds of electric appliances
and transporting them to the plugged-in
appliances.
For a heater or a lamp these points are not so
really relevant. However in electronic devices they
cause interference and impact heavily upon picture
and sound quality
