CONNECTIONS■IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switchDo not change the IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switchwhile the power of this unit is turned on, as doing so maydamage the unit.If the unit fails to turn on, the IMPEDANCE SELECTORswitch may not be fully slid to either position. If this is thecase, remove the power cable and slide the switch all theway to either position.Select the switch position (LOW or HIGH) according tothe impedance of the speakers in your system.■CAUTIONSwitchpositionNoteHIGHLOWImpedance level• If you use one set (A or B), the impedance ofeach speaker must be 6 Ω or higher (R-S700)or 8 Ω or higher (R-S500).• If you use two sets (A and B) simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be 12 Ωor higher (R-S700) or 16 Ω or higher(R-S500).• If you make bi-wire connections, theimpedance of each speaker must be 6 Ω orhigher (R-S700) or 8 Ω or higher (R-S500).See page 11 for Bi-wire connection.• If you use one set (A or B), the impedance ofeach speaker must be 4 Ω or higher.• If you use two sets (A and B) simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be 8 Ω orhigher.• If you make bi-wire connections, theimpedance of each speaker must be 4 Ω orhigher. See page 11 for Bi-wire connection.Connecting speaker cablesRemoveapproximately10 mm (3/8 in)of insulationfrom the end ofeach speakercable. When inserting speaker cables into the speaker terminals, insertonly the bare speaker wire. If insulated cable is inserted, theconnection may be poor and sound may not be heard.■ Bi-wire connectionBi-wire connection separates the woofer from thecombined midrange and tweeter section. A bi-wirecompatible speaker has four binding post terminals. Thesetwo sets of terminals allow the speaker to be split into twoindependent sections. With these connections, the mid andhigh frequency drivers are connected to one set ofterminals and the low frequency driver to another set ofterminals. This unitConnect the other speaker to the other set of terminals inthe same way. When making bi-wire connections, set the IMPEDANCESELECTOR switch to HIGH or LOW depending on theimpedance of your speakers:6 Ω or higher: HIGH (R-S700)8 Ω or higher: HIGH (R-S500)4 Ω or higher: LOWSee page 11 for more information about theIMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch.NoteCAUTIONWhen making bi-wire connections, remove the shorting bridgesor cables on the speaker.yTo use the bi-wire connections, press SPEAKERS A andSPEAKERS B on the front panel or on the remote control so thatboth SP A and B light up on the front panel display.SPEAKERS A/BSpeakerSPEAKERS A/BPREPARATION English11 En
