MEET YOUR EDITORSEditors’ Note: in last year’s pennultimate issue, we introduced ourselves, the new Editorsin-Chiefof the Quid Novi. For the benefit of the new members of the McGill Law famiy, wereprint here our little blurbs. Si vous nous voyez dans la faculté, dites bonjour!AMANDA PETRAkISI won’t burden you with a long list or descriptionof my many virtues (with just apinch of vice). Instead, I prefer sharingwith you my motivation for getting involvedwith the Quid, and just a fun factabout myself.The ambition which motivated me toapply for the position of Co-Editor-in-Chiefof the Quid Novi is to act as the intermediarybetween you, the readers, and thosewho wish to share their thoughts withyou. The last time I was the “intermediary”was at my Cegep, for theEnglish/Spanish/German literary magazine,The Brief, or whatever it was! Twohundred and fifty copies were printed anddistributed per issue, but whenever Iasked for some feedback on the latestone, I was met with a blank stare and fourwords I would come to hate in this particularorder: “What’s The Brief?” This saddenedme more than anything else: Iknew how important it was for those whosubmitted something to get their messageheard, and to connect. I vowed, “neveragain!”On a lighter note, I wish to share with youthe top three three coolest things I haveever won! I believe this is a lovely conversationstarter forpeople just gettingto know eachother. And so, mytop three are: aone-day trip toDisneyland inFlorida when I wassix, a meter-longToblerone chocolatewhen I was nine, and just last summer,an olive wreath for coming in first ata race in Olympia, Greece.Let’s get the conversation started, LawFac!THOMAS GAGNON-VAN LEEUWENMalgré mon narcissisme envahissant —mais non, je blague — je n’aime pas parlerde moi-même. Je serai donc concis.Comme en témoigne la longueur de monnom, je suis un fier Québéco-Hollandais,un Montréalais pur laine. En tant que Cégepienen arts, lettres et communications,j’ai horrifié certains de mes profs en leurannonçant ma décision d’étudier en droit.J’aimais bien ce que je faisais, mais il étaittemps d’essayer autre chose et, commevous, je voulaischanger lemonde. Pourmoi, le QuidNovi est une manièrede renoueravec mon amourdu monde descommunications.Ma première foulée dans le sérieuxmonde des médias étudiants, c’était enSecondaire 1. On se rappelle sans doutede moi comme l’auteur d’un feature piecesur la Saint-Valentin, qui comprenait entreautres une section de suggestions d’élèvespour le grand jour que j’avais scrupuleusementrecueillies. Malheureusement, certainsétudiants plus vieux avaientmultiplié les références osées (pensezmotel et bubble bath, bref) qu’en tant quejeune innocent de 12 ans, je n’avais pasjugé bon d’éliminer. Pas besoin de vousdire que mes parents n’étaient pas trèsfiers...HÉLIA TAHERIOnce upon a time, there was a little girlwho sat on a small branch of a tree.She was so light; it didn’t break.Playfully, she picked one of the leaves. Itwas called Le Petit Prince and it withdrewsalty water from her eyes. Waterfall onher skin, running down her curves, slippedon her lips. She tasted tears for the firsttime.Antoine de Saint- Exupéry, the first manwho had touched her heart. Antoine deSaint-Exupéry, the first man who got tosee her soul. She wrote him a letter: shewanted to write, she wanted to read, shewanted to play, she wanted to be.Attached to a red balloon, the letter flewin the sky, disappeared between theclouds.
