Gr. I PA, 1,200m, £32,500
radames in his Best day
In a race won twelve times out of the fourteen last editions by horses trained in France, the ‘FR’
radames (Kerbella) won neatly. Placed several times at the Group level, the Sheikh Hamdan Al
Maktoum representative won a first Gr. I PA. Dane O’Neill placed the future winner in the middle
of the track whereas the other horses cantered along the rail. Two hundred metres from the post,
he created a very good difference and held on until the end to resist the attack of Kao Kat mhf
(Kaolino). Still second at mid race, al mouhannad (Nizam) finishes close third. The winner is trained
by Philip Collington, who is one of the most titled jockeys among the Purebred Arabians in England.
He is one of the professionals who replaced Gillian Duffield since she retired. Philip Collington is
the top British Purebred Arabian trainer. He told us: “It is a fantastic performance. He was fourth
last year. It was in a soft ground and he prefers good ground, like today. Sheikh Hamdan wishes him
to run in England and then we will see. He is tough and today, he shows he is capable of going to
a big race abroad. He already won over 1,600m, but he is better between 1,200 and 1,400m. Now,
he doesn’t have many entries possible.”
al mOuhannad dOes nOt demerit
Three time winner of this Gr. I PA, the Christian Baillet trained filly owns the record of the number
of successes in the Jebel Ali Racecourse Za'abeel International Stakes. Thinking of the sport’s side
of racing, the connections tried to win a fourth time in a row on Sunday. Bred by Hassan Mousli,
Nada Mousalli and Faiz Alelweet, she was courageous to take the third place. Jean-Pierre
Deroubaix, racing manager for the Royal Cavalry of Oman, said: “Al Mouhannad is now 7yos. Today,
she did not have the same ground as last year. However, she does not demerit. She will have a rest
and then we will see. It is not easy to find entries for her, because 1,600m is a bit too long and
underneath this distance, possibilities are rare for Purebred Arabians.”
