In the paddock, urge di gallura (Caligola) was over the
lot physically. This colt took quickly the lead of the 2016
Emirates Equestrian Federation International Stakes (Gr.
II PA). He cantered in front beside the rail and nobody
could come closer. For his first run outside Italy, he wins
by three lengths and a first Group race. Mattia Cadrobbi,
from the Italian’s breeders’ association, told us: “He is the
new Zefiro de Nulvi!” Indeed, Urge di Gallura comes from
the same family as the one of the best Purebred Arabians
bred in Italy. shabih alreeh (Jaafer), owned by His
Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani who
was not very lucky during the race, finishes second. The
"Shadwell" alazeez (Madjani) improves day after day and
takes the third place.
Endo Botti, his trainer, and Cristiana Brivio explained:
“We have only been training Purebred Arabians since
February only. So it is a first for us. Urge di Gallura won
four races in Italy, where he is the best of his generation.
He is a colt who can certainly win in maturity. Urge di
Gallura is owned by Razza Latina. In the near future, we
would like to have more Purebred Arabians. His
performance today and the way he does it is impressive.
It shows what he is capable of in Italy. For the moment, he
always won easily. But he is a colt who needs to gain
experience. He can still progress.” The Italian professional
also placed third in a Gr. I PA in Newbury, thanks to lares
de pine (Câlin du Loup).
aKBar’s family
Urge di Gallura was bred in Italy by Giovanna Picconi. His
sire, Caligola, stands at the Sardinian National Stud. His
dam, winner of two races, is a full sister to Zefiro de nulvi
(Rubis de Carrère). He had started in France with Didier
Guillemin, for Sergio Raffaello. He won the Trophée du
Président des UAE (Gr. I PA) at Maisons-Laffitte, before
being exported. Zulema, his second dam, was imported
from France. She was the full sister to the great performer
and then remarkable stallion akbar (Djelfor).
