3) Basic safety<br />

Warning: Disregard of the following safety rules can result in severe<br />

injury, property damage, or death. The manufacturer assumes no liability<br />

for such actions.<br />

• Before handling, cleaning, or trouble shooting problems, perform<br />

the following:<br />

a. Remove magazine from rifle.<br />

b. Visually check that the chamber is clear of ammunition.<br />

• When handing to or receiving rifle from another person make sure<br />

the action is open.<br />

• Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.<br />

• Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.<br />

• Never point a firearm at yourself, or anything you do not intend to<br />

shoot.<br />

• When shooting on rangers, follow all range safety rules, and be<br />

sure backstop is adequate for the caliber of the firearm you are<br />

firing.<br />

• Always wear hearing protection while firing, or in the immediate<br />

area where firing is being conducted.<br />

• Load your firearm only when ready to start firing, or shortly before<br />

beginning your hunting activities.<br />

• Never transport a loaded firearm in your car.<br />

• Never fire a rifle at or over water, or any other surface that can<br />

cause a ricochet. Warning: Rifle projectiles can be lethal at 8000<br />

yards or more.<br />

• Never place your finger on the trigger during loading or unloading<br />

of a firearm, or at any other time that you are not ready to fire.<br />

Place trigger finger along side of the stock or frame, never on trigger<br />

guard or side of trigger.<br />

• Never use excessive force during handling, disassembly, or reassembly<br />

of a firearm. If you encounter a situation where undue force is<br />

required there is a problem, consult a gunsmith or your <strong>Heym</strong><br />

Service Center.<br />
