3) Basic safety
Warning: Disregard of the following safety rules can result in severe
injury, property damage, or death. The manufacturer assumes no liability
for such actions.
• Before handling, cleaning, or trouble shooting problems, perform
the following:
a. Remove magazine from rifle.
b. Visually check that the chamber is clear of ammunition.
• When handing to or receiving rifle from another person make sure
the action is open.
• Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
• Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
• Never point a firearm at yourself, or anything you do not intend to
shoot.
• When shooting on rangers, follow all range safety rules, and be
sure backstop is adequate for the caliber of the firearm you are
firing.
• Always wear hearing protection while firing, or in the immediate
area where firing is being conducted.
• Load your firearm only when ready to start firing, or shortly before
beginning your hunting activities.
• Never transport a loaded firearm in your car.
• Never fire a rifle at or over water, or any other surface that can
cause a ricochet. Warning: Rifle projectiles can be lethal at 8000
yards or more.
• Never place your finger on the trigger during loading or unloading
of a firearm, or at any other time that you are not ready to fire.
Place trigger finger along side of the stock or frame, never on trigger
guard or side of trigger.
• Never use excessive force during handling, disassembly, or reassembly
of a firearm. If you encounter a situation where undue force is
required there is a problem, consult a gunsmith or your Heym
Service Center.
