WEED CONTROL OF ELDERBERRY (SAMBUCUS NIGRA L.)

The elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.) falls under bacciferous fruits but its growing system is
mostly similar to the cultivation of the grape. There is not adequate weed control system in
elderberries plantation in Hungary. Few experiments were made in this theme. Our object was to
carry out weed control methods which are suitable for technological and economic considerations
and which endanger the environment in the slightest. The research was carried out in a 5 years old
plantation with cv. Haschberg. We studied which weeds were found in the field and what was the
distribution of weeds. In 2005 and 2006 years were sprayed many herbicides (Panida 330 EC +
Lucenit 80 WP, Panida 330 EC + Afalon Dispersion, Goal 2E, Pledge 50 WP, Dual Gold 960 EC +
Pledge 50 WP, Dual Gold 960 EC + Goal 2E and Folar 525 SC in both years). Weed killer effects
and the phytotoxic effect on elderberry plants of herbicides were scrutinized.
