EEPC India was set up in 1955 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of
Commerce & Industry, Government of India to promote exports of engineering
goods, projects and services from India. With nearly 13,000 Indian firms
as members, EEPC India has transformed India’s engineering exports:
from just US$10 million in 1956-57, engineering exports climbed to
US$40 billion in 2008-09.
Over the last 30 years, Indian engineering has seen a sea-change. It is the
largest segment in Indian industry and employs about 4 million skilled and
semi-skilled workers. The huge growth powered by large investments in
power projects and infrastructure development and the growth in India's
manufacturing sector has seen the development of cutting-edge capabilities
in product development and advanced manufacturing technology.
