PT PLN (Persero) Laporan KEBERLANJUTAN 2011 SUSTAINABILITY Report 13 SEKILAS PT PLN (PERSERO) PT PLN (Persero) in brief PLN merupakan Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN) yang didirikan untuk mentransmisikan tenaga listrik dari pusat-pusat pembangkit yang bertenaga air, diesel, tenaga uap berbahan bakar batu bara maupun gas, ke pengguna akhir seperti kawasan industri, komersial, pemukiman maupun sarana publik. (2.2) PLN is a state-owned company that was established exclusively to transmit and distribute electrical power produced at power plants fueled by hydro electric power, diesel, coal, gas and steam energy, to industrial and commercial users, residential areas and public utilities. (2.2) Untuk mentransmisikan tenaga listrik tersebut, Perseroan mengelola jaringan transmisi dan distribusi di atas tanah maupun kabel bawah tanah, beserta serangkaian pusat trafo dan gardu induk pengatur tegangan dan beban atau daya listrik untuk kemudian disalurkan ke terminal instalasi listrik domestik di tempat pengguna. Melalui serangkaian peristiwa sejarah, kemudian seluruh pusat pembangkit ini dikelola oleh perusahaan induk, yang kemudian dikenal sebagai PLN. Through a series of historical events, all of these power plants came to be managed by a holding company, which was later known as PLN. PLN kini mengelola jaringan listrik mulai dari pusat pembangkitan yang dikelola sendiri maupun milik swasta, dengan daerah operasi melingkupi seluruh kawasan wilayah Indonesia, mulai dari perkotaan hingga ke area terpencil.
