Kiln structure
Walls
The kiln may have double-skin or triple-skin walls depending on kiln width and temperature
so as to provide an effective barrier even in the event of lengthy downtimes caused
by power failures.
Refractory brick characteristics vary so as to prevent any alkaline aggression and
respond correctly to the different temperatures.
Wall insulation consists of rigid layers fitted with staggered joints: consequently all the
wall insulation is dry and does not require any preheating.
A high-efficiency double sealing chicane that allows the kiln to operate at high pressures
is also featured.
The weight of the roof rests on the walls, thus making the entire structure highly stable:
lifting of the walls - caused by thermal expansion of the refractory bricks - does
not cause any problems at all because the roof is not bound to any other structure
and is thus free to move upwards, continuing to rest on the walls as it does so.
