INNOVATIONS
PLANT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF LARGE-FORMAT PORCELAIN
TILES AND SLABS
The plant, which is designed specifically to handle large sizes, is notable for its output capacity and its flexibility, and also
boasts optimised energy consumption in order to reduce product costs wherever possible and to minimise environmental
impact.
The plant comprises: automatic dosing systems for supplying raw materials to the MMC CONTINUOUS MODULAR MILL,
slip collection tanks and supply pumps for the SPRAY DRIER, with the additional possibility of using coloured slips; deposit
bins for spray-dried powder and a line to feed the powder to the moulding line, with the option of dry colouring and
mixer colouring; moulding line with the CONTINUA line connected to the new PH 10000 PRESS and multi-layer horizontal
drier. Glazing and decoration line using VELA glaze and COLORA HD digital decorator. Laser-guided parking on box
for unfired products. New EKO-series kiln. NUOVA FIMA sorting line, designed specifically for large sizes, with SURFACE
INSPECTION vision system and a palletisation system for collecting the finished product.
CONTINUOUS MODULAR MILL
The use of this new grinding technology, which is now well-established at
SACMI, makes it possible to reduce electricity costs by about 11% compared with
traditional continuous grinding, and by about 42% compared with the old style
of discontinuous grinding.
It also offers the potential to reduce the amount of water in the slip by about 2%
compared with discontinuous grinding, offering a fuel saving of around 10% in
spray drying.
SPRAY-DRIER
Heat energy consumption is on average 4-5% lower than that of other machines
on the market, thanks to a specific tangential hot air distributor, higher turbulence
within the evaporation tower and the option of working at temperatures of 600-
700°C.
CONTINUA PRESSING TECHNOLOGY
By using continuous pressing technology and the PCR pre-compaction device
developed by SACMI, large-size slabs can be produced without compromising
output capacity.
DIGITAL DRY DECORATION
This new digital decoration unit makes it possible to create geometric and nongeometric
effects, ensuring the repeatability of the results over time.
PRESS
This new press, equipped with a pressing force of 100,000 kN, can press a
1500x1000 mm slab at a specific pressure of 550 kg/cm 2 .
Furthermore, the automatic device to stop the pump if the line is halted
temporarily reduces energy consumption, because the stoppage prevents energy
being consumed and removes the need to cool the oil.
HORIZONTAL DRYER
This system, designed specifically for drying large sizes, optimises energy
consumption thanks to the appropriate use of air recirculation.
ROLLER KILN
This kiln, which uses state-of-the-art technology, consumes some 22% less energy
than a traditional kiln and, if necessary, the output capacity can be reduced
without increasing specific consumption.
