Per una città che da una parte si caratterizza fin dai tempi antichi per l'apertura allo scambio e al confronto dei
popoli, e che dall'altra è legata in modo profondo alla musica, il concorso corale internazionale «In... canto sul
Garda» rappresenta un appuntamento caro, atteso, amato. Esprimiamo la lieta soddisfazione e l'orgoglio di tutti
i Rivani nel dare il più caloroso benvenuto ai tantissimi coristi provenienti da Paesi vicini e lontani: grazie a loro
anche quest'anno le vie e le piazze di Riva del Garda si coloreranno di voci, suoni, volti e della forza unica e
straordinaria della musica. Una pacifica, suggestiva, contagiosa invasione che è un bellissimo regalo alla città e
ai suoi tanti ospiti.
For a town which has been distinguished since the ancient times by its opening to the cultural exchange and to the
dialogue between the peoples on the one hand, and which is deeply connected with music on the other hand, the
international choir competition «In... canto sul Garda» represents a dear, awaited and beloved appointment. We’d
like to express all citizens of Garda’s joyous satisfaction and proud in warmly welcoming the many members of
the choirs who come from countries nearby and faraway: thanks to them, also this year voices, sounds, faces and
the unique and extraordinary force of music will liven up the streets and the squares of Riva del Garda. A peaceful,
suggestive, infectious invasion which is a wonderful present to the town and its many guests.

prima edizione, ha registrato un'alta partecipazione
di cori e di pubblico.

nona edizione del nostro “In…Canto sul Garda”, augurando
loro, al di là di un buon risultato al concorso,
di trascorrere in questa nostra bella località alcune

L'edizione 2011 del nostro In... Canto sul Garda ha
un motivo in più per essere ricordata.
E' quella del nostro ventennale di attività. Nel 1991
nasceva la nostra Associazione. Promossa da un
gruppo di appassionati attenti all'attività culturale
cittadina che, incontrando Interkultur, intesero assieme
a questa sviluppare un progetto capace di
portare a Riva del Garda il canto corale nella sua
migliore espressione. Da allora ad oggi sono più di
un migliaio i cori che, provenienti da tutto il mondo,
si sono esibiti sul nostro palcoscenico. Un progetto
che quindi ha avuto successo, che ci ha permesso
di accogliere numerose formazioni, provenienti da
tante nazioni diverse, composte da giovani e meno
giovani, ma tutti animati da questa grande passione
che ci unisce: il canto, la musica.
Unitamente a questi nostri incontri sviluppati nei
due concorsi - Concorso Corale Internazionale e In..
canto sul Garda - un altro elemento importante ha
caratterizzato questo nostro lavoro: l'incontro di tante
persone provenienti da luoghi diversi.
I nostri appuntamenti sono stati quindi anche occasione
di vicinanza fra una varietà di popoli, di contatto
fra persone, di nuove amicizie, spesso di festa
e di gioia. Molti sono i ricordi che ci accompagnano
There is one more reason to remember the edition
2011 of our In... Canto sul Garda. This is the twentieth
anniversary of our activity.
In 1991 our Association was founded. It was promoted
by a group of enthusiasts who cared of the cultural
activities of the town; when they met Interkultur,
they decided to develop a common project to bring
the best expression of the choral music to Riva del
Garda. Since then, more than a thousand choirs from
all over the world have performed during our events.
So that was a successful project and it has given us
the possibility to welcome numerous choirs from
many different countries, with young and less young
members, who are all animated by this big passion
which unites us: singing and music.
Together with the friendships struck up during the
two competitions – International Choir Competition
and Competition In…canto sul Garda -, a further
element has characterized our work: meeting many
people from different places.
Our events have also been the occasion for different
peoples to get in touch with one another, for people
to meet, for new friendships, often for festivity and joy.
A lot of memories come to our minds in this moment,
while we are presenting this new edition. These memories
gratify us for these decades we have spent to
let grow this initiative which has registered a large
participation of choirs and public since its first edition.
With proud and satisfaction I’d like to welcome all the
choirs participating in the edition 2011 of In... Canto
sul Garda. Beside a good result in the competition, I
wish them to spend some days full of friendship, to
meet new people and to enjoy their staying in our
beautiful town.

Cari amici,
A nome di INTERKULTUR sono lieto di darvi il benvenuto
allla nona edizione del festival “In…Canto sul Garda”
al quale anche quest’anno si sono dati appuntamento
44 cori provenienti da 17 nazioni tra cui . Brasile, Cina
e Indonesia nonché da altre parti dell’Europa. Siamo
particolarmente felici di poter salutare quest’anno ben
11 cori provenienti dalla nazione ospite, l’Italia.
Un calorosoa benvenuto a tutti voi in questa magnifica
cornice del lago di Garda! Una molteplicità di variegate
culture si incontrano per cantare insieme, stringere
amicizie, proprio in sintonia con il nostro ideale: costruire
ponti tra nazioni così diverse tra loro. La disponibilità
ad apprendere dalle altre culture ne presuppone il
rispetto e l’accettazione, e a questo scopo pensiamo
che INTERKULTUR abbia dato e dia costantemente un
contributo.
Il nostro motto è “Cantare insieme avvicina le nazioni”
vive nei cuori di molti coristi di tutto il mondo e a tutti
loro, a tutti voi cori e direttori, a tutti quanti hanno contribuito
a rendere possibile questo successo.
Il prossimo anno, con la settima edizione dei World
Choir Games che si svolgerà a Cincinnati(Ohio, USA)
si segnerà un ulteriore traguardo in questa straordinaria
serie di successi. Dopo ben sei strepitose edizioni
in Europa e in Asia il più grande concorso corale del
mondo vedrà la sua prima volta in America.
Confidiamo che centinaia di cori si uniranno al nostro
World Choir Games in una delle più interssanti città
degli USA sotto il profilo musicale.
E desidero invitare tutti voi già da ora e non solo a Cincinnati,
ma estendendo l’invito naturalmente anche a
tutte le altre nostre manifestazioni in programma nel
2012 e nel 2013. Anche se la nona edizione de l’“In
... canto sul Garda" non sono i World Choir Games
ugualmente è ispirato dall’ideale olimpico incarnato
nel principio “partecipare è il più grande onore”. Con
questo spirito sono lieto di rinnovare il mio benvenuto
qui a Riva del Garda, la città che fino ad ora ha ospitato
la maggior parte dei concorsi corali internazionali di
INTERKULTUR. Volutamente lasciamo ora spazio ai protagonisti
della musica popolare, sacra e moderna, jazz
e gospel: inevitabilmente sapranno creare un’atmosfera
indimenticabile.
Vorrei infine esprimere un doveroso ringraziamento a
tutti coloro i quali, infaticabili, si sono dedicati a questo
progetto per il prezioso contributo che ha reso possibile
questo festival rendendolo momento importante tra
gli eventi di INTERKULTUR.

Dear friends,
In the name of INTERKULTUR I want to welcome you
to the 9 th International Choir Competition 'In...Canto
sul Garda”. This time we are very proud to welcome 44
choirs from 17 countries, among them such as Brazil,
China or Indonesia and a lot of groups from all parts of
Europe. We are very contended that 11 choirs from the
hosting country, Italy, join this wonderful event. Welcome
all of you to the beautiful town Riva del Garda and
the incredible countryside of the Lake Garda.
You all have come to sing together, to make friends
and to "build bridges" between this great variety of the
different nations. And this requires the individual's readiness
to learn about and to respect the culture of
other people. With our INTERKULTUR events we want to
make our contribution to this. Our motto “Singing together
brings nations together” lives in the hearts of many
singers all over the world.
At this point I would like to say a big thank-you to you
all, the singers, conductors, officials – to all people who
made this success possible.
Next year the 7 th World Choir Games Cincinnati 2012
(USA) will create a further climax to the amazing series
of INTERKULTUR successes. After the six wonderful
events in Europa and Asia the most successful and
biggest choral competition in the world will touch the
American continent for the first time. We hope that hundreds
of choirs will join the World Choir Games in one
of the most exciting musical cities of the USA. I already
have the pleasure today of extending you our cordial
invitation to Cincinnati, as well as to all of our other
competitions taking place in the years 2012 and 2013.
Even if the 9 th Festival 'In...Canto sul Garda" is not the
World Choir Games we want to follow the Olympic idea
as well, with the same principle "participation is the
highest honour". In this spirit, I welcome you to Riva
del Garda, the town which has organized most of the
INTERKULTUR Choir Competitions up to now.
Intentionally, the main emphasis is put on Folk, Sacred
Music, Jazz, Gospel and Popular Music, a mixture with
a special charm.
I want to thank all the hard-working assistants for their
help making this choir festival an impressing experience
among the events of
INTERKULTUR.

Associazione Concorso Corale Internazionale Riva del Garda
È stata costituita il 17 dicembre 1991 per volontà di un gruppo di appassionati del canto corale che, su invito
dell’allora Sindaco Enzo Bassetti, hanno dato vita ad una associazione di volontariato senza scopo di lucro, ma
con finalità diversificate, sempre nell’ambito corale, quali ad esempio l’organizzazione di concorsi e festival,
manifestazioni di carattere concertistico, corsi di perfezionamento musicale, seminari, laboratori, pubblicazioni
e mostre.
Dalla sua fondazione ad oggi si è assunta la responsabilità dell’organizzazione di undici edizioni del Concorso
Corale Internazionale e di nove edizioni del concorso “In... Canto sul Garda” (entrambi a cadenza biennale).
L’Associazione svolge la sua attività con il contributo del Comune di Riva del Garda, della Provincia Autonoma
di Trento e della Federazione Cori del Trentino, nonché attraverso l’opera volontaristica di un folto gruppo di
appassionati del canto corale.
E’ retta da un Consiglio Direttivo, la cui presidenza per anni è stata affidata al compianto Sig. Gian Carlo Boschin,
attualmente dalla signora Lorena Civettini e si avvale della consulenza artistica di straordinari Maestri, quali il prof.
Giovanni Acciai e il prof. Riccardo Giavina.
The Associazione Concorso Corale Internazionale Riva del Garda was founded on 17 th December 1991 by a
group of choral lovers who were asked by the Mayor of the time, Enzo Bassetti, to give life to a non-profit making
organization of volunteers with various aims, always within the choral field, for example organizing competitions,
festivals, musical concerts, masterclasses, seminars, workshops, publications and exhibitions. From its foundation
up until today it has organised 11 editions of the International Choir Competition and 9 editions of the competition
“In... Canto sul Garda” (both biennial). The Association carries out its work with contributions from the Town Council
of Riva del Garda, from the Autonomous Province of Trento, from FENIARCO and from the Trentino Choir Federation,
as well as through the voluntary work of a large group of choral lovers.
The association - led by a board of directors and for many years with the late Mr Gian Carlo Boschin as President
- also makes use of the artistic expertise of Professors Giovanni Acciai and Riccardo Giavina. President of the
Association is Mrs Lorena Civettini.

Costruire ponti per incontrarsi
Il 1° Concoso Corale di Budapest la cui prima edizione risale al 1988 ha creato una delle più iportanti manifestazioni
culturali in Europa. La serie di festival internazionali di INTERKULTUR, già MUSICA MUNDI, denominazione conosciuta
in tutto il mondo per l’alto livello raggiunto sia sotto il profilo artistico che organizzativo e punto di riferimento
della coralità internazionale che annovera sostenitori in tutto il mondo. Il più grande successo della fondazione
INTERKULTUR, organizzatrice di questi eventi musicali, è l’idea di applicare l’antico ideale olimpico al mondo della
musica corale dalla quale sono nate le olimpiadi corali nel 2000 a Linz (Austria), il cui felice esito è stato bissato
poi ogni due anni, in Corea del Sud (2002), a Brema (Germania) nel 2004, ha proseguito a Xiamen (Cina) nel
2006 World Choir Games, seguito nel 2008 da Graz (Austria) ed infine a Shaoxing (Cina) nel 2010; la prossima
edizione si terrà nel luglio 2012 a Cincinnati (USA). Altra pietra miliare raggiunta nella storia di INTERKULTUR è stata
di creare un campionato mondiale per formazioni corali la cui prima edizione si è svolta nel 2009 nella Provincia
di Gyeongnam (Repubblica di Corea), la seconda nel 2011 a Graz (Austria).
L’idea
INTERKULTUR è divenuto ormai sinonimo di un concetto artistico unico nel suo genere, poiché ha introdotto una
novità rispetto al passato. Mentre importanti concorsi corali tradizionali sono riservati soltanto a cori appartenenti
a un’élite a livello internazionale, i festival di INTERKULTUR, collocandosi parallelamente alla forma tradizionale,
aprono le porte del confronto artistico a tutti i cori desiderosi di vivere l’esperienza del concorso e del festival
in campo internazionale come momento di crescita. Uno dei valori ai quali il comitato artistico di INTERKULTUR
tiene maggiormente, è che in tutti i concorsi possano trovare spazio sia i migliori gruppi sia la grande varietà di
formazioni corali di tutti i livelli. Questa scelta artistica è stata copiata da numerosi concorsi sorti in questi ultimi
anni. Con l’idea di organizzare i World Choir Games ogni due anni, INTERKULTUR ha trovato la direzione che
incoraggia il movimento corale internazionale verso nuovi impulsi e prospettive.
La funzione pedagogica
Le manifestazioni di INTERKULTUR non sono solamente concorsi e festival internazionali. Momento di grande
interesse per i partecipanti sono le numerose offerte di perfezionamento fondate su una grande competenza
artistica e pedagogica. Durante la fase della consultazione per esempio, i cori hanno la possibilità di lavorare
insieme a giurie internazionali ricevendo opinioni in merito al livello artistico nonché preziosi consigli pedagogicoartistici
per affrontare meglio l’interpretazione del programma scelto. Parallelamente ai concorsi si organizzano
inoltre congressi, seminari per direttori di coro, corsi di perfezionamento, conferenze ed incontri con compositori.
I concerti e i canti a cori uniti dei partecipanti accentuano ancora di più il momento emozionante tipico degli
incontri internazionali di INTERKULTUR.
Il marchio di qualità
Da più di un ventennio MUSICA MUNDI® rappresenta l’esclusivo marchio di qualità di tutte le manifestazioni di
INTERKULTUR nel mondo. Sin dal primo festival di INTERKULTUR svoltosi a Budapest nel 1988 il sistema di valutazione
– sul quale si basano tutti i concorsi – è stato perfezionato costantemente. Tutti i concorsi di INTERKULTUR hanno
come comune denominatore la qualità a garanzia della comparabilità rispettando tutti i livelli e fissando standard
nel mondo della musica corale.
I concorsi
Il nuovo concetto di base si rende concreto nella realizzazione di concorsi che offrono più categorie divise per
gradi di difficoltà per tutti i tipi di coro con o senza brani d’obbligo. In essi si vive un’atmosfera unica, in cui si
offrono condizioni di partecipazione vantaggiose, dense occasioni di contatti artistici, interessanti workshops e
consultazioni con esperti prima e dopo la prova in concorso vera e propria. Più di 200 tra esperti e direttori di coro
in campo internazionale garantiscono la competente professionalità che contraddistingue le manifestazioni di
INTERKULTUR.
Il sistema di valutazione
La giuria assegna nei concorsi di INTERKULTUR diplomi corrispondenti ai dieci livelli nelle fasce oro, argento e

onzo ed assegna medaglie d’oro, d’argento o di bronzo.ai World Choir Games e World Choir Championships
in base al particolare sistema di valutazione di MUSICA MUNDI. In ogni categoria si determina un “vincitore” o un
“campione” e a esibizioni di particolare interesse vengono assegnati premi speciali. Alcuni festival contemplano la
competizione riservata ai vincitori di categoria per l’assegnazione del gran premio al coro migliore, decretato così
vincitore assoluto del concorso.
I luoghi delle manifestazioni
I festival di INTERKULTUR si sono svolti in Austria, Cina, Corea del Sud, Germania, Indonesia, Israele, Italia, Malesia,
Malta, Repubblica Ceca, Svezia, Ungheria e negli USA.
I partecipanti
5.500 cori con più di 275.000 partecipanti provenienti da 100 nazioni hanno preso parte fino ad oggi ai festival
di INTERKULTUR. È interessante notare come più della metà dei partecipanti sia costituita da cori di bambini e cori
giovanili i cui membri hanno meno di 25 anni di età.
Finalità di sostegno
In virtu’ del suo statuto la Fondazione INTERKULTUR persegue le seguenti attività:
- promuovere festival musicali internazionali il cui scopo è di avvicinare cori di diversi paesi e culture favorendo
la collaborazione internazionale attraverso il rispetto reciproco e contribuire così alla comprensione tra i popoli
- aiutare formazioni corali di bambini e di giovani in particolare provenienti da paesi economicamente arretrati
- favorire l’attività di cori amatoriali, specialmente di giovani, sia a livello locale o internazionale, che dimostrano
costante sviluppo artistico
- sostenere l’impegno di promettenti direttori di coro, musicisti e coristi con l’assegnazione di buoni studio
- sponsorizzare progetti specifici
La partecipazione di molti gruppi alle manifestazioni di INTERKULTUR è stata finanziata in gran parte dalla
Fondazione INTERKULTUR. Grazie alla costante partecipazione numerose formazioni hanno potuto migliorare
considerevolmente il loro livello artistico raggiungendo così una dimensione d’élite internazionale.
Gli aiuti finanziari provengono per la maggior parte da sponsor privati e da quote associative, tasse d’iscrizione e
di partecipazione, donazioni, fondi pubblici di fondi di regioni o comuni che affiancano INTERKULTUR nell’impegno
organizzativo di festival e concorsi.
European Culture Award
Nel 2006 la Fondazione INTERKULTUR ha ricevuto l’European Culture Award, riconoscimento iniziato da Hans
Dietrich Genscher ed assegnato dal KulturForum Europa, per l’attività svolta in favore della comprensione tra i
popoli e per il rafforzamento di un comune pensiero europeo nella cultura.

… Connecting bridges.
The First International Choir Competition of Budapest, which was launched in 1988, was the start of one of the
largest and most successful series of cultural events in Europe. The name of these novel choir competitions and
festivals, INTERKULTUR, former MUSICA MUNDI Event Series, has meanwhile become known throughout the world
for its high artistic and organisational standards and has become a concept for the choir-orientated public, with
enthusiastic followers all over the world. These events are organized by the non-profit organisation INTERKULTUR
Foundation. The Foundation’s biggest success so far, was to bring the antique Olympic idea to the choral world. The
Choir Olympics 2000 in Linz (Austria) were the start of a Choir Olympic movement 2002 in Busan (Korea), 2004 in
Bremen (Germany), which continued a success story with the World Choir Games 2006 in Xiamen (China), 2008
in Graz (Austria), 2010 in Shaoxing (Cina). The next edition will be held in July 2012 in Cincinnati (USA). Another
milestone in the history of INTERKULTUR was to establish a world championship for choirs. The first World Choir
Championships were called into being in 2009 and took place in the Province of Gyeongnam (Republic of Korea)
and the second took place in July 2011 in Graz (Austria).
The Idea
Meanwhile INTERKULTUR has become the symbol for a unique artistic idea, which consists of a new interpretation
concerning the execution of choir festivals: In comparison to the meritorious traditional choir competitions, where
only those choirs which belong to the international elite compete, the INTERKULTUR competitions are open for
the first time to all choirs. Choirs from all over the world that are interested in gaining international festival and
competition experience can compare themselves with other choirs according to their level of artistic achievement.
The artistic committee of the foundation places emphasis on the presence of the highest level of choral performers
as well as on the presence of the greatest diversity of choral performers in all competitions. This new type of
competition has been copied by numerous newly launched competitions in the last few years. With the idea to
organize the WCG former Choir Olympics biennial, INTERKULTUR Foundation has opened a door to new impulses
and perspectives for the national and international choral movement.
The Pedagogical Concept
The INTERKULTUR events are not just competitions and international choir festivals, they gain their competence
and lasting effect on its participants more and more by pedagogical offers. In consultation rounds, for example,
the choirs have the chance to work together with the international jury and to get advice on their current level of
achievement, competent pedagogical and artistic information and suggestions as to how to interpret the chosen
piece. In connection with that convention, seminars for conductors, composer portraits and lectures are being
offered at the INTERKULTUR events. Friendship and encounter concerts reinforce this big emotional effect of the
international choir-meetings organized by INTERKULTUR Foundation.
The Quality Seal
For 22 years MUSICA MUNDI® is the exclusive quality seal for all INTERKULTUR events worldwide. Since the first
competition that INTERKULTUR organised 1988 in Budapest the rating system, on which all events are based
upon, has been improved continuously. All INTERKULTUR events have this quality seal in common. It guarantees
comparability among all events and has set standards in the world of choir music.
The Competitions
There are various categories for all choir types and choir levels in different degrees of difficulty, with and without
compulsory pieces. They offer a unique atmosphere, good competitive conditions, intensive artistic contacts, various
consultation programs and workshops, as well as practice opportunities with international performers. More than
200 experts and leading choirmasters from all over the world guarantee a high level of qualified competence in
all INTERKULTUR events.
Evaluation System
The jury awards golden, silver and bronze diplomas on 10 levels at INTERKULTUR competitions and gold, silver
and bronze medals at the World Choir Games and World Choir Championships, according to a special MUSICA

MUNDI evaluation system. In each category a winner or champion is determined and outstanding achievements
are honoured with special prizes. In some competitions there is a competition of the category winners which
determines the grand prix winner, the overall winner of the competition.
Locations of Festivals and Competitions
So far INTERKULTUR events have been taken place in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel,
Italy, Malaysia, Malta, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Sweden and USA.
The Participants
In total, 5.500 choirs with 275.000 active singers from 100 countries have taken part in the INTERKULTUR
competitions up to date. It is interesting to note that over half of the participants have been children and youth of
under 25 years of age.
Means of Support
In accordance with its statutes, INTERKULTUR Foundation supports the following activities:
· international music festivals and choir competitions whose goal it is to bring together choirs from different regions
of the world to encourage international collaboration through mutual respect, as well as to contribute to cultural
exchange and understanding among nations
· children‘s and youth choirs, preferably from financially challenged countries
· amateur choirs, either local or international, that show intensive and sustained youth development
· young, talented choirmasters, young musicians and singers (scholarship awards)
· specific sponsorship programmes
Many ensembles have received invitations to other INTERKULTUR events that have been financed to a large degree
by INTERKULTUR Foundation. Through regular participation in the events, quite a number of choirs have been able
to improve their profile remarkably and work their way to the international elite.
Sponsorship funds come mainly from private sponsors, as well as from membership fees, participation fees, direct
and indirect donations, public sponsorship as well as funds of the countries, regions, cities and communities that
are involved as partners in the competitions and festivals.
European Culture Award
INTERKULTUR Foundation was awarded the 2006 European Culture Award, called into being by Hans Dietrich
Genscher and presented by KulturForum Europa, for its activities on behalf of understanding between peoples and
furtherance of common European thinking in the field of culture.

Nato nel 1946, è titolare della cattedra di storia della
musica e di paleografia musicale presso il Conservatorio
“Giuseppe Verdi” di Milano. È diplomato in organo,
composizione e direzione di coro e si è specializzato
in paleografia e filologia musicale presso l’Università
degli studi di Pavia. Direttore della rivista di storia, arte
e cultura "L'Offerta musicale", ha al suo attivo numerose
pubblicazioni e revisioni di musiche antiche, saggi
musicologici, edizioni critiche, incisioni discografiche
di musiche inedite per le case Antes, Stradivari, Sarx
e Tactus. Già direttore della “Corale universitaria di Torino”,
del “Coro del Teatro comunale di Bologna”, del
“Polyphoniae studium” e del “Coro da camera della RAI
di Roma”, è attualmente direttore artistico e musicale
dei “Solisti del madrigale” e del Collegium vocale
et instrumentale "Nova ars cantandi” e dei concorsi
corali di Quartiano (Lodi) e di Riva del Garda. Per sua
iniziativa sono sorti i corsi triennali di perfezionamento
“Roberto Goitre”, dedicati alla direzione di coro e allo
studio dell’interpretazione della musica vocale antica.
Collabora con la RAI, con la Fondazione “Gioacchino
Rossini” di Pesaro, con la Fondazione “Guido d’Arezzo”
dell’omonima città e con l’Istituto Cherubini di Roma.
È presente nelle giurie dei più importanti concorsi
nazionali e internazionali quali Arezzo, Gorizia, Tours,
Budapest, Vittorio Veneto, Trento, Milano, Zwickau, ecc.
e viene spesso invitato a tenere relazioni in convegni
musicologici. Ha fatto parte della giuria delle Olimpia-
Giovanni Acciai was born in 1946. He teaches musical
history and early music semiography at the Conservatory
“Giuseppe Verdi“ Milan. He studied organ, composition
and choir conducting and got a specialisation in
music paleography and philology at Pavia University.
He is director of the didactic magazine of choir music
“L’offerta musicale“ and has published several articles
and reviews on early music, musical essays and critics
as well as recordings for the publishers Antes, Stradivari,
Sarx and Tactus.
He was conductor of the “Corale universitaria di Torino“,
of the “Coro del Teatro comunale di Bologna“, of the
Chamber choir of the Italian Radio and of the “Polyphoniae
studium“. Presently, Giovanni Acciai is condurco
andartistic director of the “Solisti del madrigale“ and
the “Collegium vocale nova ars cantandi“ as well as
the international choir competitons of Quartiano and
Riva del Garda. The three-year masterclasses “Roberto

Ralf Eisenbeiß, nato nel 1952, dopo il conseguimento
della maturità ha studiato pedagogia, filologia germanica
ed educazione musicale alla Scuola Superiore
di Pedagogia di Zwickau diplomandosi nel 1979. Dal
1978 al 1981 ha studiato direzione di coro e d’orchestra
alla Scuola Superiore di Musica Franz Liszt di
Weimar. Nel 1987 ha iniziato l’attività di insegnante di
canto corale e direzione di coro. È stato direttore del
Coro della Scuola Superiore di Pedagogia di Zwickau,
con il quale ha conseguito numerosi premi in concorsi
nazionali e internazionali. Nel suo repertorio, accanto
alla letteratura a cappella dei diversi secoli troviamo
anche opere di compositori contemporanei –e grandi
lavori sinfonico corali. È stato docente al seminario
centrale per direttori di coro di Berlino e ha tenuto numerosi
corsi di perfezionamento. É spesso direttore
ospite in patria e all’estero, tra gli altri ha diretto il Coro
della Trinity Western University a Vancouver in Canada.
È direttore artistico del Concorso Corale Internazionale
Robert Schumann di Zwickau, inoltre è membro del
Comitato artistico della Förderverein Interkultur e.V. e
di Musica Mundi nonché direttore artistico dei World
Choir Games.
Ralf Eisenbeiß was born in 1952. He studied pedagogy,
German philology and musical education and received
his doctorate in 1979. From 1978 to 1981, he studied
choir and orchestra conducting at the Franz Liszt Conservatory
in Weimar and was appointed professor in
1987. He was conductor of the renowned Pedagogical
University Zwickau Choir with which he has won
numerous prizes at national and international choir
competitions with an extensive repertoire ranging from
a cappella literature from different centuries, modern
composers as well as great choral symphonic works.
He was lecturer at the central seminar for choral conductors
in Berlin. He often appears as guest conductor
at home and abroad, i.e., with the choir of the Trinity
Western University in Vancouver (Canada). Ralf Eisenbeiß
is the artistic director of the International Robert
Schumann Choir Competition in Zwickau, and member
of the Artistic Committee of the Förderverein Interkultur
e.V. as well as artistic director of the World Choir
Games.

Gábor Hollerung ha studiato all’Accademia musicale
“F.Liszt”, diplomandosi in direzione di coro e d’orchestra
completando in seguito gli studi ai corsi di
perfezionamento di Eric Ericson, Kurt Masur e László
Somogyi. Dal 1989 è direttore dell’Orchestra Sinfonica
Dohnányi Budafok, e dal 1980 è direttore della Società
Corale dell’Accademia di Budapest, con la quale
in vent’anni di attività ha vinto in tutti i più importanti
concorsi corali europei tra cui Llangollen e il Gran Premio
al Béla Bartók International Choir Competition di
Debrecen. Dal 2001 è direttore musicale dell’Ensemble
Honvéd. Dal 2002 è primo direttore ospite della
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra e consulente artistico
della “Philharmonia Singers Tel Aviv”. Nel 1988 a Budapest
ha ideato e fondato un nuovo concorso corale
rivoluzionandone la formula tradizionale e che ha dato
origine alla consolidata serie di festival corali di MUSI-
CA MUNDI. È uno dei direttori artistici della Förderverein
INTERKULTUR e dei World Choir Games. Nel 2002 gli
è stata conferita la Croce al Merito della Repubblica
d’Ungheria e nel 2004 ha vinto il Premio Liszt e nel
2006 il premio Jerusalem Prize. Nel 1998 e nel 2008

Gábor Hollerung studied choral and orchestral conducting
at the Liszt Academy of Music and attended the
master classes of Eric Ericson, Kurt Masur and László
Somogyi. He has been the principal conductor of the
Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok since 1989 and the conductor
of the Budapest Academic Choral Society since
1980 with which he enjoyed a unique series of successes
by winning first prizes at all recognized European
choir competitions including Llangollen and the Grand
Prix of the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition
in Debrecen (Hungary). In 2001 he became the music
director of the Honvéd Ensemble and in 2002 he became
Chief Guest Conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony
Orchestra and Musical Advisor of the Philharmonia
Singers Tel Aviv. In 1988 he initiated the foundation of
choir events with a revolutionary new artistic concept
in Budapest. A whole family of choral events was born
following the example under the name "MUSICA MUN-
DI" which includes also its greatest festival the “Choir
Olympics”. Gábor Hollerung is one of the artistic directors
of INTERKULTUR and of the World Choir Games. In
2002 he was awarded the Knight-cross Order of the
Republic by the President of the Republic of Hungary
and received the Liszt Prize in 2004 and the Jerusalem
Prize in 2006. 1998 and 2008 he received the prize of

Ady Ariwodo è nato in Nigeria ed è un cantante professionista,
musicista (musica sacra), insegnante di
musica ed inglese. Ady Ariwodo è il fondatore e direttore
del coro gospel “Ady & the Zion Community Choir”
(Germania) che ha vinto la Medaglia d’oro alle Choir
Olympics di Brema nel 2004 e ai World Choir Games
di Xiamen nel 2006. Ady Ariwodo tiene seminari e
workshops sul gospel e sulla musica popolare ai quali
partecipano sia bambini che adulti e direttori ospiti
provenienti da varie chiese e formazioni corali di tutta
Europa. Ai World Choir Games di Graz (Austria) nel
2008 è stato membro di giuria nelle categorie gospel,
spiritual, jazz e musica corale popolare.

Dr. Miranda Caldi (Grecia - Greece)

Dr. Miranda Caldi è professore associato di direzione
corale alla Ionian University di Corfù di cui presiede il
dipartimento di musica e dove inoltre ricopre la carica
di vice direttore del dipartimento di studi accademici
e dello staff. Ha compiuto i suoi studi musicali presso
l’Università di Città del Capo diplomandosi nel 1972
dove in seguito è stata invitata a tenere corsi di perfezionamento.
Nel 1992 il suo coro di voci bianche si
è esibito all’inaugurazione dell’Europe Union Summit
svoltosi a Corfù. Nel 1993 ha ottenuto un master di
specializzazione (l’Opera per Cori Giovanili) presso
l’Università di York (GB) sotto la guida del professor
John Paynter. Grazie ai fondi della Comunità Europea
ha inaugurato il Festival of Youth Opera di Mytilene, Lesbos,
cui hanno partecipato 250 coristi provenienti da
Germania, Gran Bretagna e Grecia. Dal 1996 focalizza
la sua attività nelle pratiche di esecuzione di musica
vocale liturgica del periodo rinascimentale, argomento
sul quale ha svolto il suo dottorato di ricerca ottenuto
nel 2002 sotto la guida del Dr. Peter Seymour.
Dal 1994 è direttrice del coro accademico University
Choir and Chamber Choir of the Ionian University con il
quale ha eseguito innumerevoli concerti tra cui molte
premières mondiali di cui esistono registrazioni e tra le
quali ricordiamo il CD di musica liturgica di Franciscus
Leondaritis con i solisti dell’Università di York, disco che
è stato nelle top 20 nell’anno 2000, e i Funeral rites of

Dr. Miranda Caldi is Associate Professor Choral Conducting
Music Department, Ionian University; Chair of
Department of Music and Vice Rector of Academic Studies
and Staff - Ionian University. Miranda Caldi gained
her Bachelor of Music degree in 1972 from the University
of Cape Town. She toured South Africa for the Cape
Performing Arts Board for a number of years and was
invited to give Master classes at the University of Cape
Town. In 1992 her children’s choir sang at the inauguration
of the Europe Union Summit meeting which took
place in Corfu, Greece. In 1993 she gained her Masters
degree in Music specializing in Opera for Youth Choirs
with Professor John Paynter as her supervisor at York
University, UK. With funds from the European Union she
inaugurated the Festival of Youth Opera in Mytilene, Lesbos
with 250 singers participating from Germany, the
UK and Greece. From 1996 onwards, and as a result of
the performances Renaissance composer, she became
interested in the performance practices of the liturgical
vocal music of the Renaissance period. She gained her
Doctor of Philosophy degree in this area in 2002 with
Dr. Peter Seymour as her supervisor. Since 1994 she
has been Director of the University Choir and Chamber
Choir of the Ionian University. The University Chamber
choir and University Choir have given a great number of
unusual concerts and many world premieres. Amongst
them are CD of the liturgical music of Franciscus Leondaritis
with the chamber choir of the Ionian University
and soloists from the University of York which was voted
in the top 20 CD’s for the year 2000, and The Funeral
rites of Sarpidonos of Yiannis Papaioannou together
with the Orchestra of Colours with Miltos Logiades as
conductor a CD as part of the collection celebrating
the Greek Olympics of 2004. She continues to research
the performance practices of the Renaissance and 3
Masses of Franciscus Leondaritis and 22 motets have
been published by York Early Music Press.

Thomas Caplin (Norvegia - Norway)

Thomas Caplin è nato nel 1960. Docente di musica,
direzione corale e management alla Hedmark University
College di Hamar (Norvegia) e direttore musicale
per la Norwegian Choral Association, ha studiato canto,
direzione e pedagogia alla Royal Academy of Music di
Copenhagen e alla Royal Academy of Music di Stoccolma.
Molto richiesto come direttore ospite viene inoltre
spesso invitato a tenere seminari nonché a far parte di
commissioni giudicatrici in patria e all’estero. I suoi libri
sulla direzione corale sono stati pubblicati in Svezia
e in Norvegia unitamente a varie pubblicazioni, composizioni,
arrangiamenti e CD. Nel 2004 è stato eletto
direttore dell’anno dalla Norwegian Choral Directors’
Association, l’associazione norvegese di direttori di
coro. Con i cori da lui diretti ha conseguito notevoli
successi e riconoscimenti, ricordiamo il Lund University
Male Choir - prestigioso coro maschile dell’Università
di Lund, Svezia (World Choir Champion a Shaoxing nel
2010), il Chamber Choir Collegium Vocale (Norvegia),
e l’Oslo University Male Choir (World Choir Champion
a Xiamen nel 2006). Sulla scena internazionale siede
nel direttivo di IFCM, ed è uno dei promotori del progetto
"Conductors Without Borders", (direttori senza
frontiere), coordina inoltre un programma di formazione
per direttori di coro in Indonesia. Thomas Caplin è
inoltre membro del World Choir Council di Interkultur.
Thomas Caplin (born in 1960) is professor in choral

Association. Mr Caplin has received international recognitions
for his leadership of the following choirs: The
Lund University Male Choir (prominent male choir from
University of Lund, Sweden, World Choir champions in
Shaoxing in 2010), Chamber Choir Collegium Vocale
(Norway) and Oslo University Male Choir (World Choir
Champion in Xiamen, China 2006). Internationally he
is in the steering committee for the IFCM mentor program
"Conductors Without Borders", and is currently
leading the project of building up formalized choral
conductor's training in Indonesia. He is also a member
of the Interkultur World Choir Council.

Prof. Ines Dominik (Austria)

Diplomata in arte drammatica, teoria jazzistica, arrangiamento
e musicologia, vocal jazz e pianoforte jazz
presso il Conservatorio di Vienna, dove ha iniziato ad
insegnare nel 1983. Dal 1994 - 1995 ha insegnato
presso il Conservatorio di Weimar e dal 1998 è titolare
della cattedra di pedagogia, canto corale jazz e musica
d’insieme al Conservatorio di Graz. Dal 1983 tiene corsi
di perfezionamento e seminari in canto e tecnica vocale
pop e Jazz, svolgendo parallelamente un’intensa attività
concertistica in patria e all’estero e presso festival
nazionali ed internazionali. Ha prodotto inoltre numerose
incisioni radiofoniche e televisive sia come solista
e corista. Ha collaborato con numerosi artistici jazz in
campo internazionale fra cui la WDR Big Band, Peter
Herbolzheimer, Wayne Darling, Ellis Marsalis, Stepko
Gut e Richard Oesterreicher, l’ultimo CD „Blue Moon“, la
vede in quintetto con Thomas Huber.
Prof. Ines Dominik studied music and drama at the
Vienna conservatory, and then she decided to take up
further studies and chose Jazz Theory, Arrangement,
Drama Science and Musicology. Additionally Ines Dominik
acquired teaching qualification for Jazz Singing
and Jazz Piano. She began teaching at the Franz Schubert
Conservatory in Vienna in 1983 and from 1994 to
1995 she was appointed to a guest professorship at
the Conservatory of Weimar. Since 1998 Ines Dominik
has been working at the Conservatory of Graz teaching
Pedagogic, Jazz Singing, Repertoire Ensemble and
Jazz Choir. Due to considerable concert activities she
went to various places and countries, she participated
in international festivals, had her own broadcast productions,
TV appearances, recordings for radio and TV
commercials. Furthermore she did a lot of recordings
as soloist or background singer. She worked together
with numerous international jazz artists, among them
the WDR BIG Band, Peter Herbolzheimer, Wayne Darling,
Ellis Marsalis, Stepko Gut and Richard Oesterreicher. Her
current project is the Blue Moon CD which she is realizing
together with Thomas Huber.

Prof. Stanislav Kalinin (Russia)

Dal 1970 il prof. Stanislav Kalinin insegna direzione
corale presso il Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory ne
è anche direttore del dipartimento di direzione corale
e d’orchestra dal 1996. Stanislav Kalinin tiene inoltre
seminari in Russia, Argentina, in Spagna ed in Corea
del Nord ed è spesso invitato come giurato in patria ed
all’estero. Nel 2004 gli è stato assegnato il prestigioso
titolo di „Artista Nazionale della Federazione Russa“.
Gli sono stati assegnati in seguito numerosi premi e
riconoscimenti. Stanislav Kalinin è autore di numerosi
articoli di carattere didattico e scientifico nonché di ricerche
nel campo del canto corale.
Since 1970 Prof. Kalinin has been working at the Moscow
Tchaikovsky conservatory’s department for choir
conducting and since 1996 also as the dean of the
department for choir and symphony conducting, head
of chair for choir conducting. Prof. Kalinin holds workshops
in Russia, Argentina, Spain and North Korea and
is often active as a juror at home and abroad. Since
2004 he owns the honorary title „National Artist of the
Russian Federation“and owns high-ranking honours.
He is author of numerous didactic and scientific articles
and research in the field of the choir culture and
singing.

Nicol Matt (Germania - Germany)

Nicol Matt è nato nel 1970. È uno dei pochi giovani direttori
germanici riconosciuti sulla scena internazionale.
Ha studiato musica sacra corale evangelica, direzione,
lettura della partitura, accompagnamento pianistico e
canto alle scuole di musica di Stoccarda, Trossingen e
Strasburgo.
Al suo attivo può già annoverare quasi cento produzioni
discografiche di opere vocali, orchestrali e strumentali
a riprova delle sue poliedriche capacità. Sue partecipazioni
presso rinomati festival come il Rheingau Music
Festival, il SWR Festival and il MDR Musical Summer –
sono state segnalate in maniera unanime ed entusiasta
dalla stampa che ne ha sottolineato la valenza artistica.
In concerto e grazie alle sue produzioni ha avuto modo
di dirigere orchestre prestigiose in tournée di successo
sia in patria che all’estero. Accanto ad una intensa
attività con i propri cori, il Chamber Choir of Europe e
l’European Chamber Soloists, Nicol Matt collabora assiduamente
con solisti di rinomate orchestre radiofoniche
(SWR, NDR e BR) partecipando inoltre anche ad interessanti
progetti trasversali che lo hanno visto al fianco
di attori come Mathieu Carrière, Daniela Ziegler, Dieter
Laser e Christine Kaufmann. La sua spiccata apertura
verso il „nuovo“ con il desiderio di completare armoniosamente
il suo profilo artistico è testimoniata dalla
sua collaborazione con compositori contemporanei di

enjoying international reputation, was born in

Lutheran church music, conducting, vocal coaching,

academies of Stuttgart, Trossingen and Strasbourg. Almost
one hundred CD productions with recordings of
highly demanding vocal, orchestral and instrumental
works, document his sophistication as an artist and
show him to be a man of many skills. He regularly receives
invitations to perform at established concert series
such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the SWR Festival
and the MDR Musical Summer – a reflection of the undivided
praise accorded his high artistic standards by the
press. Extensive concert and production activities as a
guest conductor have brought him together with many
prestigious orchestras both inside and outside Germany.
Alongside the intensive work with his own ensembles,
the Chamber Choir of Europe and the European Chamber
Soloists, Nicol Matt always finds time to work together
with soloists from leading radio orchestras such as
the SWR, NDR or the BR, as well as to become involved
in interesting crossover projects, for example with the

contemporary composers from Germany, England and

Alverà e di Josef Knapp. In seguito si è diplomato alla
Kirchenmusikakademie di Regensburg e alla Scuola
Superioire di Musica di Monaco di Baviera superando
infine l’esame di Stato nel 1967 e concludendo il ciclo
di studi.
Dal 1975 al 2003 ha insegnato musica liturgica
al Conservatorio statale „Claudio Monteverdi „ di
Bolzano, svolgendo parallelamente l’attività di maestro
di cappella , organista e maestro del coro del Duomo
di Bolzano. Per molti anni è stato anche educatore
musicale di scuola materna a Bolzano. La sua vasta
attività compositiva per coro ed organo gli è valsa
numerosi premi e riconoscimenti in concorsi nazionali
ed internazionali trai quail il titolo di Cavaliere
conferitogli dal Presidente della Repubblica. Sebbene
i suoi lavori vertano per la maggior parte sulla musica
corale e organistica il suo grande interesse è rivolto
alla musica sacra.
Herbert Paulmichl, born on 18th June 1935 in Stilfs/
South Tyrol, is a composer and organist. He had
nine siblings and his parents were both teachers. He
attended the secondary school Vinzentinum in Brixen
and afterwards studied theology at the philosophical
and theological university in Bressanone for three
years. He received his first piano and organ tuition
by his father. Furthermore he was a pupil of Alberto
Alverá and Josef Knapp. Paulmichl also studied at
the university for catholic sacred music and music
education in Regensburg (Hochschule für Katholische
Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik) and the university
for music and theatre in Munich (Hochschule für Musik
und Theater). 1967 he completed his studies with
the state examination. From 1975 to 2003 he was
lecturer for sacred music at the national conservatory
for music "Claudio Monteverdi" in Bolzano (Staatliches
Musikkonservatorium "Claudio Monteverdi" in Bozen),
as well as director of music, organist and conductor
at the dome in Bolzano. He also worked as a music
teacher at the school for kindergarten teachers in
Bolzano for several years. He received numerous
national and international competition awards and
mentions for his comprehensive work as a composer.
Amongst others the Italian state president granted him
the title "Cavaliere" for his extraordinary achievements
in the field of arts. Paulmichls works mainly comprises
music for choirs, organs and chamber music. But his
real passion is Sacred Music.

Giuria - Jury
Johan Rooze ha studiato pianoforte e direzione di coro
al Conservatorio di Utrecht. Di formazione prettamente
classica, si è specializzato in seguito nei generi vocal
pop e jazz ensemble perfezionandosi in piano, canto
e arrangiamento jazzistico negli Stati Uniti con Phil
Mattson, Michelle Weir, Paris Rutherford, Steve Zegree e
Darmon Meader. Il suo coro “Dekoor” è stato premiato in
numerosi concorsi tra i quali “The Netherlands Choir festival”
l’ International Vocal group Festival e all’”In Canto
sul Garda” a Riva del Garda; inoltre è risultato vincitore
alla prima edizione del programma televisivo Idols for
Choir e al Korenslag 2007 che valse loro un contratto in
esclusiva con la casa discografica Universal Music, molte
apparizioni in TV e una tournée concertistica in Gran
Bretagna. Johan Rooze è stato maestro del coro dell’Università
di Utrecht “Utrecht Student Choir and Orchestra”
una formazione corale classica con orchestra sinfonica
propria che esegue prettamente grandi opere oratoriali.
Con i suoi due cori accademici ha tenuto concerti in
Francia, Austria, Italia, Ungheria, Polonia, Gran Bretagna,
Belgio, Croazia, Lettonia, Estonia, Finlandia, Spagna, Danimarca,
Russia, Canada, USA, Corea e Taiwan. È stato il
fondatore del “Dudok ensemble”, ha diretto le Monthly
Bach Cantatas di Utrecht ed è regolarmente invitato a
dirigere il Coro della Radio di Utrecht. Ha insegnato direzione
corale, vocal jazz e arrangiamento al Conservatorio
di Rotterdam e alla Scuola di Musica di Alkmaar.
Ha composto musiche ed ha curato gli arrangiamenti di
Johan Rooze studied Piano and Conducting at the
Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands. He graduated
in 1986. His education was in Classical Music, but from
childhood he was involved in Popular Music, Jazz and
Music-Theatre. He went to the U.S. to study with Phil
Mattson, Michelle Weir, Paris Rutherford, Steve Zegree
and Darmon Maeder, all well-known specialists in Jazz
Piano, Jazz Singing and Jazz Arranging. His student Vocal
group “Dekoor” won many prices, e.g. The Netherlands
Choir Festival, The International Vocal group Festival
and the In Canto Sul Garda in Riva Choral Competition,
Italy. They won the first new “Idols for choir” TV program,
“Korenslag” 2007 in the Netherlands, after which they
got an exclusive record contract with Universal Music,
many TV appearances and a concert tour to England. He
was the conductor of the Utrecht Student Choir and Orchestra
a large classical choir with their own Symphony
Orchestra who perform major oratorio works. With the
two student choirs of Utrecht he made concert-tours to
France, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Poland, England, Belgium,
Croatia, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Spain, Denmark, Russia,
Canada, the U.SA, Korea and Taiwan. He was founder of
the “Dudok ensemble”, an outstanding Project Chamber
Choir, conducted the monthly Bach Cantatas in Utrecht,
the Netherlands and is guest conductor of the National
Radio Choir. He was Professor for Vocal Jazz, Conducting
and Arranging at the Conservatory of Rotterdam and the
School of Music and Media in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.
He composed and arranged the music for several Music
Theatre Productions. He was member of the board of Musical
advisors for the KCZB (Dutch Royal Christian Music
Association) and Artistic Director for the IKF (International
Choir Festival, Netherlands 2005). In 2008 he moved
to Daegu, South Korea and teaches music, conducts a
Jazz choir and a professional Chamber Choir. He is also
professor of Dutch language at the University for Foreign
Studies in Seoul. He travels over the world to adjudicate
at Music festivals or to teach Jazz Singing, Jazz Piano
and Jazz Vocal Groups. He is a member the IFCM (International
Federation of Choral Music).
