The Netzer residence
In the middle ages already there probably existed a tower
house at this location, which was extended over the years. At
least one part of the building was a log construction, which is
evident from one of the windows on the facade of the building.
The present residence was built in 1643. In 1977 the
house, not inhabited since many years was renovated extensively
and adapted to todays standard of living as far as possible.
Inside the residence there are many rooms with beautiful
arched ceilings, old precious furniture as well as features and
ornaments from different epochs.
The old mill
The mill was in use until 1991. The water of the small creek
was used to move the mill, the big blacksmiths hammer in
the stable of the Hotel Piz Mitgel as well as the machines of a
joinery at the Veia Caross before the electrification. Located on
the border of the Gelgia was a washhouse, which was used by
the neighborhood. Such washhouses, some equipped with an
oven as well, were located in the different parts of the village
and used by the community or sometimes exclusively by a
family. A community law to prevent fires was the origin of the
wash and baking houses. Tasks which used a lot of energy, in
this case fire, were not allowed in every house, such reducing
the fire danger significantly.
The milk is no longer processed on the Alp Tarvisch. By means
of a pipeline, which can be seen on the right hand side when
crossing the Gelgia river, the milk is transmitted directly to the
mountain cheese dairy.

Remarkable are the inscriptions in german.
«Der die Buchstaben mit lesen will,
so lese er bey ihm in aller still,
und thue auf die augen guet,
dan er ein narr verbleiben thuet»
Possibly they were written by a german speaking craftsman or
maybe less importance was attached at the time to the local
Romansh language? Until the end of the 19th century all
communities in the valley had a german name. Savognin was
officially called Schweiningen until 1884. The house is under a
preservation order today.
