Steel
Steel, by virtue of its excellent
technological and aesthetic
properties, is widely used in the
creation of false ceilings. It lends
itself to an infinite variety of
machining processes in addition to
a whole series of surface
treatments.
This, and the fact it is suitable for
use in the most unusual and
original solutions, means it is
regarded in the sector as a
“princely material”.
With such an extensive range of
gauges available on the market, in
coils up to 1,500 mm in width, very
large elements can be produced -
sufficiently coplanar and featuring
high mechanical strength, and
hence particularly suited to the
handling that is inevitable when
building service systems in the false
ceiling void are being serviced.
Stainless steel
This material, apart from its
undeniable aesthetic qualities, can
offer excellent performance in
terms of resistance to corrosion
induced by either atmospheric
agents or acids and alkaline
solutions. The stainless steel
surface, since it does not require
any special care, is also ideal for use
in particularly awkward locations
with running costs that are
practically nil. The raw material
comes in standard coils in 1250 mm
heights.
For large-scale projects, special
coils can be requested with the
most suitable heights.
COR-TEN
When it comes to types of steel
with low alloy content and high
tensile strength, COR-TEN takes a
position of prime important.
By adopting this kind of steel
instead of common carbon steels,
much thinner panels can be
produced, hence bringing weight
down too. Moreover, the excellent
r e s i s t a n c e t o a t m o s p h e r i c
corrosion that COR-TEN offers
means this product can be used
"bare" (unpainted).
Aluminium
Originally adopted above all for
producing doors and windows,
aluminium has gradually been
appreciated for its remarkable
flexibility, durability, and the fact
that it is easy to get hold of and
largely recyclable. Its mechanical
strength is lower than steel,
though this drawback can be
o v e r c o m e w i t h g r e a t e r
thicknesses, with values of up to 3
mm not presenting handling or
installation problems of any kind
because the metal is so light.
There is also a considerable variety
of different appearances to choose
from thanks to the numerous
surface treatments that can be
carried out on it.
As far as prepainted elements are
concerned an extremely wide
range of colours is available: they
are classed as bright, pastel,
metallic, imitation wood in gloss,
semigloss and matt versions -
means the designer is bound to
find a shade that befits the specific
application. Special colours can be
devised and produced for
important, one-off applications.
The raw material comes in
standard coils 1250 mm in height.
For large-scale projects, special
coils can be requested with the
most suitable heights.
