ALVIT EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEMS Let us remind you of a few key aspects, so that we can provide you with useful information on how to choose the correct emergency lighting kit to be paired with electronic reactors. Pairing an emergency kit which is not fitted with any system for clearing the electronic reactor during emergency operation may seriously affect the reactor. Latest-generation electronic reactors are fitted with sensitive protective devices which might be released when paired with standard emergency kits. When power is restored after emergency operation, the electronic reactor may be switched to the stand-by mode. Higher risks may be run if only the emergency line is cleared (the power supply system is not switched off), leaving the ordinary lighting line hot (the power supply system is switched off). For example, during routine maintenance jobs. To switch the lamp on, the reactor will have to be reset (by clearing the power supply system) or replaced, if it has been damaged. While waiting for a European standard to be issued in this respect (as has long been urged by North European countries), it should be emphasized that, to deal with these problems, an auxiliary relay should be available to clear the reactor during emergency operation and - as normal conditions are restored - supply it with power with a slight delay. Alvit was the first company in Italy to take a serious approach to the problem. The Alvit R series (which has been available in the market for a few years) and the recently launched C and T series are the solution. They incorporate the delayed-action auxiliary relay, thus being totally compatible with electronic reactors, and also suit magnetic reactors. Preliminary Cathode Heating Alvit power suppliers (C and T series) apply preliminary cathode heating (1s) while the lamp is being switched on in emergency, and heat cathodes throughout emergency operation. Hence the lamp is switched on more effectively and cathode damage is reduced, while prolonging the life of the lamp. AC Power Supply Alvit power suppliers (C and T series) supply the lamp with AC power. This makes it possible to prevent "mercury migration", which causes the lamp to go red, and enhance light yield, while prolonging the life of the lamp. BATTERIES All Emergency lighting kits Alvit are provided with rechargeable high temperature Ni-Cd Saft batteries. These cells accept a permanent charge for a minimum of 4 years in high-temperature environments (up to +40°C) such as security lighting equipment. Improved versions of the cells, such as the VTD 70, can withstand a constant temperature of up to +55°C with a similar lifetime when permanently charged. Temperatures up to +60°C are permitted for short durations. Batteries should be supplied with tube or pack configurations. - Constant voltage during discharge - Zero maintenance - Long cycle life (over 500 charge discharge cycles) - Long term storage (up 12 months in normal conditions: temperature range of +5° to +25°C in a 65 ± 5% relative humidity atmosphere) The Alvit E series, with simplified 4-wire cabling, is recommended with magnetic reactors (where the above-mentioned problems are not shown). Amalgam and Low Mercury Content Lamps Under Directive 2002/95/EC, also known as RoHS, the use of a few substances is prohibited or limited in electric and electronic equipment. For a few years increasingly low amounts of mercury have been used in the production of fluorescent lamps. Therefore, during emergency operation, the lamp should be supplied with adequate power, if the problems typically encountered with amalgam and low mercury content lamps are to be avoided. ALVIT EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEMS DIRETTIVA 2002/96/CE (WEEE/RAEE) La direttiva 2002/96/CE del 27.09.2003 riguarda lo smaltimento dei Rifiuti derivati dalle Apparecchiature Elettriche ed Elettroniche (RAEE, o anche WEEE: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Lo scopo della direttiva 200/96/CE è la riduzione dei rifiuti delle Apparecchiature Elettriche ed Elettroniche al fine di incentivare il riutilizzo, il riciclo o altre forme di recupero di tali rifiuti. La direttiva WEEE, si applica pure, come apparec - chiature, agli apparecchi illuminanti e agli apparecchi elettrodomestici. Nello scopo della Direttiva viene pre - cisato che si applica a prodotti di consumo e che i componenti incorporati in tali prodotti sono esclusi dallo scopo della Direttiva. I componenti non devono esser smaltiti separa tamente ma assieme all’apparecchio illuminante e all’apparecchio elettrodomestico dove sono montati. Quanto sopra vale pure per i componenti, definiti come indipendenti, montati esternamente all’apparec chio illuminante o all’apparecchio elettrodomestico, poiché vanno intesi solo come “unità funzionali” per il corretto funzionamento dell’apparecchiatura coperta dalla Direttiva 2002/96/CE. DIRETTIVA 2002/95/CE (RoHS) La Direttiva 2002/95/CE, del 27 Gennaio 2003, riguarda le restrizioni dell’uso di determinate sostanze pericolose nelle apparecchiature elettriche ed elettroniche (RoHS: Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances). La Direttiva RoHS stabilisce che a partire dal 1 luglio 2006 sia impedita la commercializzazione di apparec chiature elettriche ed elettroniche contenenti sostanze pericolose Piombo (Pb), Cadmio (Cd), Mercurio (Hg), Cromo Esavalente (Cr6+), Bifenile Polibromurati (PBB), Etere di Difenile polibromurato (PBDE) con livelli superiori ai limiti ammessi. La Direttiva 2002/95/CE si applica a tutti gli Apparecchi Illuminanti e di conseguenza a tutti i suoi componenti. Da evidenziare inoltre che le batterie sono escluse dalla Direttiva in oggetto poiché regolamentate dalla Direttiva 98/101/CE. Alvit assicura che tutti i componenti utilizzati sono conformi alla Direttiva 200/95/CE. GARANZIA Alvit garantisce i suoi prodotti per 24 mesi dalla data di fabbricazione indicata sui prodotti stessi. La garanzia copre tutti gli eventuali difetti di fabbricazione. La garanzia non copre gli eventuali danni causati da un utilizzo errato e non conforme alle istruzioni di installazione e impiego. Qualsiasi modifica annulla la garanzia e può rendere pericoloso il prodotto. Seguire attentamente le istruzioni per garantire un funzionamento corretto e sicuro. Alvit declina ogni responsabilità per i danni causati da un proprio prodotto montato in modo non conforme alle istruzioni. L’installazione dei prodotti deve essere eseguita a regola d’arte. DIRECTIVE 2002/96/CE (WEEE) The Directive 2002/96/CE of 27/09/2003 regards the disposal of Waste deriving from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Above all, the purpose of the Directive 2002/96/CE is the reduction of electrical and electronic equipment waste and to reduce waste even further by encouraging the reutilisation, recycling or other forms of recovery of this waste. The WEEE Directive, also applies to lighting equipment and electro-domestic equipment. Within the objective of the Directive, it is specified that the Directive is applied to consumer products and that the components incorporated in these products are excluded from the objective of the Directive. The components must not be disposed of separately but together with the lighting equipment and the electro-domestic equipment in which they are assembled. The above is also valid for the components that are assembled externally of the lighting equipment or the electro-domestic equipment and defined as independent because they are only intended to be “functional units” for the correct functioning of the equipment covered by the Directive 2002/96/CE. DIRECTIVE 2002/95/CE (RoHS) The Directive 2002/95/CE 27/01/2003 regards the restriction of the use of determined dangerous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS - Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances). The RoHS Directive establishes that from the 1st of July 2006, the commercialisation is forbidden of new electrical and electronic equipment with dangerous substances Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) with levels more than the permitted limits. The Directive 2002/95/CE, is applied to all Lighting Equipment and consequently all of their components. It must be noted furthermore that batteries are excluded from the Directive 2002/95/CE because they are regulated by the Directive 98/101/CE. Alvit ensure that all components utilised conform to the Directive 2002/95/CE. WARRANTY Alvit guarantees its products for 24 months from the manufacturing date shown on the products. The warranty covers any and all manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage due to improper use not conforming to the installation and operating instructions. Any modification will void the warranty and can make the product dangerous. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure correct and safe operation. The fixture cannot be modified. Alvit shall not be responsible for any product damage caused by mounting procedures which do not comply with the instructions.
