Piasco, 2855 abitanti, a 480 metri sul livello del
mare, è la porta d’accesso alla Valle Varaita
(Cuneo). Durante l’impero romano fu un posto di
dogana verso le Gallie, mentre in epoca medievale –
oltre a iniziare lo sfruttamento delle cave per la produzione
della calce – Piasco fece parte di una serie di

è la Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, l’antica
parrocchiale, dove è conservato un importante ciclo
di affreschi di Pietro da Saluzzo. Accanto al palazzo
comunale vi sono invece i resti dell’antica Chiesa
di San Sebastiano. L’importante mole del Castel
nuovo domina poi l’intero abitato. Da non perdere
anche la Cappella di Sant’Anna, poco fuori
dal Paese, e quella di Santa Brigida, sulla collina.
A partire dagli anni Settanta si è stabilita a Piasco

mondiale per la produzione di arpe.
Il 28 gennaio 2006 è stato aperto al pubblico il
��������������������������������������������������sivamente
allo strumento cordofono, alla sua storia e
al suo universo sonoro.

(Cuneo). During the Roman empire the city was
considered as customs station towards the Gauls, later
on in the medieval era - after beginning to exploit
the lime pits – Piasco became part of a network of
sighting towers together with Costigliole, Rossana
and Venasca. Worth to be mentioned for its vestiges
of pictorial art is the ancient parish Church of San
Giovanni Battista, where a rich series of frescoes by
Pietro da Saluzzo are kept. While the remains of the
ancient Church of San Sebastiano stand nearby the
town hall. As for the mighty towering of the new
Castel, it overlooks the entire built-up area. Worth
for visiting are also the Sant’Anna Chapel, in the
outskirts of the city, as well as the Santa Brigida
Chapel up the hill. Since the seventies Piasco is
hosting one of the worldwide most renown musical
instruments company for the production of harps: on
January 28, 2006 the Victor Salvi Museum opened to
the public, it is the only one in the world exclusively
dedicated to this chordophone instrument, to its story
and to its sound world.
