Non c’è più alle partenze e neanche agli arrivi, non c’è più agli angoli delle piazze e neanche sul ciglio<br />
delle strade, non c’è più dentro nei bar e neanche sotto l’ombrello, non c’è più in sala-stampa e neanche in<br />
tribuna d’onore, non c’è più in ammiraglia e neanche al telefono. Non c’è più alle presentazioni delle corse,<br />
alle premiazioni dei dilettanti, alle feste dei professionisti, ai concorsi dei bambini, alle gare delle donne,<br />
alle gimkane dei giovanissimi. Non c’è più al Giro né al Tour, non c’è più alla Vuelta né alla Sanremo, non c’è<br />
più alle Tre Valli Varesine né al Lombardia, non c’è più al Camaiore né alla Sabatini, non c’è più alla Tirreno-<br />
Adriatico né al Mondiale. Non c’è più a Bari, quartiere San Paolo, dove cento bambini scorrazzano in uno<br />
spiazzale a lui dedicato e con maglie a lui intitolate. Non c’è più al Trofeo Tandem e neppure al Giglio d’oro.<br />
Non c’è più a bere un caffè, a tenere una lezione, a parlare con i manager, a raccontare della Roubaix. Non<br />
c’è più ad ascoltare Martini, ad abbracciare Tafi, a ridere con Fornaciari, a duettare con Bettini, a salutare<br />
Squinzi, a rispondere a Saronni, a spiegare a Petacchi, a viaggiare con Vita. Non c’è più con i suoi basettoni,<br />
con i suoi jeans, con i suoi occhiali scuri. Non c’è più con i suoi “sicuramente”, con i suoi “ma dai”, con i<br />
suoi “vedi”. Perché Franco Ballerini c’era, c’era sempre, c’era ancora, c’era di più. Era uno, si divideva in due, ricominciava<br />
da tre, si faceva in quattro. Era unico, eppure si era come raddoppiato, triplicato, clonato. Perché andava e veniva, saliva<br />
e scendeva, presentava e presenziava, salutava e ospitava, accoglieva e raccoglieva. Da solo faceva gruppo, gruppetto,<br />
gruppettino. Era uno di noi, più di noi, meglio di noi.<br />
Franco passed away. We shall not see him anymore on the start line or on the finish line, we are going to miss him at each and<br />
every corner, at each roadside, in every bar and even under his umbrella; no more Franco in the press room, in the VIP stand, in<br />
the flagship car or on the phone. We will miss him at every race presentation, at every amateur prize awarding and at every pro<br />
bash, at every youngsters’ tournament, at every ladies’ race, at every kids’ contest. Franco will never be seen again at the Giro or<br />
at the Tour, neither at the Vuelta nor at the Sanremo; no more Franco at the Tre Valli Varesine or at the Lombardia, no more at the<br />
Camaiore or at the Sabatini, no more at Tirreno-Adriatico or at the World Championship. We will miss Franco in Bari’s San Paolo<br />
district where hundred kids are running about in a space named after him, wearing jerseys with his name. Franco will not be there<br />
anymore at the Tandem Trofeo and not even at the Giglio d’oro. No more coffee, no more lessons, no more discussions with the<br />
managers, no more Roubaix story telling. No more Franco to listen to Martini, to hug Tafi, to joke with Fornaciari, to duet with<br />
Bettini, to greet Squinzi, to answer to Saronni, to explain to Petacchi, to travel with Vita. How much we will miss the figure with<br />
the mutton-chops, the jeans, the dark lenses. And also the usual pet phrases: “sicuramente”, or “ma dai”, or “vedi”. Because we<br />
know that Franco Ballerini was always there, is still there, will always be there, and even more if possible. Franco was available<br />
for everybody, and always doing his utmost. Franco was a real unique character, able to be everywhere at a time, double, triple,<br />
and why not cloned! Going back and forth, and up and down, presenting and attending, greeting and hosting, welcoming and<br />
gathering. All by himself he was at the same time a cluster, a group, a team. All for one but one, Franco, for all. He was the best.<br />

Posta al confine con la Liguria e l’Emilia Romagna, Carrara (www.comune.carrara.<br />
ms.it) si propone a partire dalla Marina e si allunga verso le Alpi Apuane, sua<br />
protezione naturale. Le Apuane ospitano le celebri cave di marmo bianco, noto in tutto<br />
il mondo perché artisti come Michelangelo e il Canova l’hanno impiegato per i loro<br />
capolavori. un ottimo esempio di questo impiego è il Duomo, per intero realizzato con il<br />
pregiatissimo marmo locale. Con Massa, nel periodo tra il XV ed il XiX secolo, ha avuto il<br />
rango di Ducato e il binomio permane tutt’ora a livello di provincia. Carrara è stata, ed è, il<br />
capoluogo del pensiero anarchico italiano e internazionale, e l’archivio/biblioteca Germinal<br />
che raccoglie la storia dell’anarchia e del movimento operario a Carrara ben lo testimonia.<br />
il nome della città si deve al marmo, o meglio alla pietra, che in lingua celtica si dice Kair.<br />
A cavallo di tre regioni, Carrara è stata sino al 1870 territorio emiliano, poi l’ultima città<br />
della Toscana prima di entrare in Liguria. Dal 1938 alla fine della guerra il fascismo le<br />
cambia il nome in Apuania. il dialetto carrarese è un idioma curioso, vagamente emiliano<br />
(o meglio lombardo emiliano) che non subisce le influenze toscane e liguri.<br />
Ricca di ville, palazzi patrizi e fontane, Carrara è stata colpita nel 1920 da un<br />
terremoto che ne ha mutato in parte la fisionomia. il complesso della Rocca e del<br />
Palazzo ha subito un restauro ancor oggi visibile, in cui l’architettura rinascimentale ben<br />
si integra con l’antico stile medioevale. Negli anni dell’ultima guerra Carrara è sì centro<br />
strategicamente importante (è posto sulla “linea gotica”), ma anche oggetto di atroci<br />
rappresaglie, rastrellamenti e devastanti bombardamenti che hanno provocato centinaia<br />
di vittime civili e la quasi totale distruzione dell’abitato e delle strutture industriali e<br />
commerciali.<br />

Carrara (www.comune.carrara.ms.it), bordering the Liguria and Emilia Romagna<br />
regions starts from the Marina stretching out towards the Apuan Alps which<br />
represent the natural protection of Carrara. The Apuan Alps host the famous white<br />
marble quarries, which are known all around the world since masterpieces of famous<br />
artists such as Michelangelo and Canova were carved from Carrara marble. A great<br />
example of the use of such marble is the Dome which has been entirely constructed with<br />
the precious stone. Between the Fifteenth and the Nineteenth century Carrara, together<br />
with Massa, gained the dukedom rank, and the combination between the two towns still<br />
exists at province level. Carrara has been, and still is, the chief town of both the italian<br />
and international anarchistic philosophy, and the Germinal archive/library which collects<br />
the anarchist history as well as the history of the working-class movement is a perfect<br />
testimony thereof. The name of Carrara shall leads back to marble, or even better to stone,<br />
which is named Kair in the Celtic language. Carrara crosses three regions, and until 1870 it<br />
belonged to the Emilia territory, to the last Tuscany town before entering the Liguria region.<br />
From 1938 until the end of the war Fascists changed the name of the town into Apuania.<br />
The Carrara dialect is a strange idiom, vaguely Emilian (or indeed a mix of Lombard and<br />
Emilian dialect) which does not suffer Tuscan and Ligurian influences. In 1920 Carrara,<br />
abounding of villas, Patrician palaces and fountains, has been struck by an<br />
earthquake which partially changed its aspect. The “Rocca” and “Palazzo” structures<br />
underwent a restoration which can still be appreciated nowadays and in which the<br />
Renaissance architecture wonderfully integrates with the antique Medieval style. During the<br />
last war period Carrara is a strategically important place (located on the so called “Gothic<br />
line”) but also the object of atrocious reprisals, scouring and devastating bombardments<br />
which caused hundred of civil victims and the almost total destruction of the lived in areas<br />
and of the commercial and industrial zones.<br />

La tappa percorre i vialoni rettilinei di Marina di Carrara e il giro, noto a tutti i ciclisti del luogo come “giro del<br />
cantierino”. Si svolge su strade larghe e prevalentemente rettilinee. Le curve vere sono 6 (4 verso sinistra) mentre i<br />
rettilinei sono talvolta intervallati dalla presenza delle inevitabili rotatorie. il cronometraggio intermedio è posto al “giro<br />
di boa” del bivio per Fiumaretta (km 9.5) dove ci potrebbe essere il cambio di effetto del vento (a favore o contro).<br />
Route<br />
The stage rolls out across the straight avenues of Marina di Carrara and along the circuit also known to all local cycling<br />
racers under the name of “giro del cantierino”. The roads crossed by Route are wide and mostly straight. True bends are<br />
in the number of 6 (4 to the left), while straight roads occasionally leave space to the inevitable roundabouts.<br />
The intermediate timing takes place at the “turning point” constituted by the intersection towards Fiumaretta (km 9.5)<br />
where the wind effect could change direction, from fair to contrary (or viceversa).<br />

La tradizione culinaria di Massa e Carrara deriva dalle secolari abitudini popolari<br />
ed è legata ai prodotti della terra e del mare che connotano la cucina apuana. La<br />
gloria gastronomica del territorio è il celebre lardo di Colonnata, bianco e delizioso, ricavato<br />
dalla cotenna, il sottopelle, la parte più povera del maiale. Gli apuani, per conservarlo al<br />
meglio, lo mantengono in conche di marmo opportunamente salate. il lardo fuso è usato<br />
come condimento al posto dell’olio di oliva o aggiunto al minestrone come condimento.<br />
ottimo gustato col pane, può essere servito con fette di pomodori e condito con olio e<br />
origano. Tra i primi piatti troviamo i Tordelli, ravioli ripieni di carne, ma trionfano<br />
anche i Taglierini nei fagioli con pasta fatta a mano. Altri piatti locali sono la Polenta<br />
e stoccafisso e il Baccalà marinato, in passato uno “spuntino” da servire con un quartino<br />
di buon vino. Con la farina dolce si usa, come in quasi tutta la Toscana, preparare il<br />
Castagnaccio. Ma il dolce per eccellenza è la Torta di riso, un tempo legata alla festa del<br />
patrono, San Ceccardo.<br />
Tre mercati dettano l’agenda di Carrara: quello in piazza delle Erbe due volte al mese, con<br />
prodotti tipici locali; quello di “Campagna Amica”, ogni mercoledì in piazza Duomo, nella<br />
logica di ortaggi e frutta a chilometro zero. in piazza Alberica, ogni primo sabato del mese,<br />
“Carrara in fiore”, la mostra–mercato vivaistico.<br />
Tra le glorie di Carrara, oltre agli anarchici del passato, i contemporanei legati allo sport.<br />
in particolare ricordiamo una serie di calciatori da Giorgio Chinaglia, fino a Gigi Buffon e<br />
Cristiano Zanetti. originaria di Carrara è anche Maurizia Cacciatori, sino a un paio d’anni fa<br />
la donna simbolo del volley italiano, oggi commentatrice televisiva.<br />

The culinary tradition of Massa and Carrara derives from the century-old people’s<br />
traditions and is connected to surf and turf products which connote the Apuan Alps<br />
cooking habits. The gastronomical glory of the territory is the famous “lardo di Colonnata”,<br />
white and delicious, obtained from the pork rind, the poorer under the skin part of the pork.<br />
People from the Apuan mountains keep it – for better preserving it – into duly salted basins.<br />
Melted lard is used as a condiment instead of olive oil, or is used added to the minestrone<br />
as a seasoning. The lard is excellent together with bread, and it can be served with sliced<br />
tomatoes and seasoned with oil and oregano. Among first courses we can appreciate<br />
the so called “Tordelli”, ravioli filled with meat, but no one can forget the triumph<br />
of “Taglierini” with hand-made pasta. Among other local delicious plates it is worth<br />
mentioning the Polenta and marinated stockfish, which in the past was considered as a<br />
“snack” to be served with a quarter of a liter of good wine. Sweet flour is used, as used<br />
almost everywhere in Tuscany, for preparing the so called “Castagnaccio”. however “the”<br />
dessert is the rice cake, which was once related to the patron saint San Ceccardo. There<br />
are three markets which are the time-keeping point of Carrara: the one in Piazza delle Erbe,<br />
twice a month, which proposes local products; the one named “Campagna Amica”, held every<br />
Wednesday in Piazza Duomo, enriched by fruits and vegetables “a chilometro zero” (which<br />
literally means “shopping at zero kilometers). Every first Saturday of the month piazza Alberica<br />
hosts “Carrara in fiore” (that is to say “Flowery Carrara”) a breeding-ground meeting exhibition.<br />
Among the glories of Carrara, besides the anarchic belonging to the past, we would like to<br />
mention the contemporary figures belonging to the sport. Specifically we would like to remind<br />
the football players such as “long John” Chinaglia, Gigi Buffon and Cristiano Zanetti. A famous<br />
Carrara native is Maurizia Cacciatori. until a couple of years ago she has been the emblem of<br />
the italian volley and is now a television sport anchorwoman.<br />

Tappa poco mossa altimetricamente. Le difficoltà nell’avvicinamento al traguardo sono limitate e sostanzialmente<br />
costituite dai due GPM di San Casciano Val di Pesa (loc. La Bruscola) e di Poggio alla Croce. Dopo Figline Valdarno<br />
(TS - il precedente è a Empoli) il percorso è leggermente mosso per arrivare al semi-circuito finale. quest’ultimo,<br />
piuttosto articolato nella prima parte, si conclude con quasi 4 km di strade larghe e rettilinee.<br />
Route<br />
The stage presents few variations in altimetry. Limited difficulties while getting closer to the finish line, the most<br />
noticeable being the two GPM, one in San Casciano Val di Pesa (loc. La Bruscola) and the second in Poggio alla Croce.<br />
After crossing Figline Valdarno (Bonus Sprint - the preceding one being in Empoli) the route offers a slightly undulated<br />
landscape, up to the final semi circuit. The latter is rather indented in its first part, but the conclusion rolls out on almost<br />
4 km of wide and straight road.<br />

Decentrata, posta a poco meno di 8 chilometri dal capoluogo, la frazione di<br />
Indicatore fa parte del territorio del comune di Arezzo (www.comune.arezzo.<br />
it), che ha dimensioni molto ampie, visto che di frazioni ne contempla ben 99. indicatore<br />
ha vissuto un certo disordine urbanistico cui si tenta di porre rimedio, a conforto degli<br />
insediamenti commerciali che sempre più trovano rilevanza. È il caso di aree verdi,<br />
spazi collettivi, spazi di sosta e strutture per servizi che trovano ora degna collocazione<br />
a indicatore, verso i cui spazi si allunga Arezzo, in un decentramento che tiene conto<br />
delle occasioni turistiche e di spettacolo. L’estate aretina, quest’anno al dodicesimo<br />
appuntamento, fa da richiamo in tutta la zona. La corsa vedrà l’epilogo a un passo dai luoghi<br />

La cucina che potete gustare a Indicatore risente degli influssi della vicina<br />
Umbria e delle altre aree interne della Toscana: pollame e carne di maiale, spinaci e<br />
fagioli, ricotta e formaggio pecorino, olio di oliva e noce moscata la caratterizzano. Antipasti<br />
prelibati sono i crostini neri con battuto di carne, fegato, acciughe, capperi, o la crostata<br />
di ceci con il prosciutto del Casentino. Tra i primi l’Acquacotta (minestra di pane con uova,<br />
formaggio grattugiato e brodo di funghi) e la Panzanella (pane bagnato mescolato con<br />
cipolle, cetrioli e pomodori, condito con olio e aceto). un secondo piatto da gustare è la<br />
Scottiglia, miscuglio di carni varie, cotte in una pentola di coccio con pomodori, verdure e<br />
odori diversi. Tra i vini rifulgono il Chianti dei Colli Aretini e il Bianco Vergine di Valdichiana.<br />

you will taste foods which are an experience derived from the neighboring Umbria<br />
region, as well as from the other internal places of the Tuscany region: poultry and pork<br />
meat, spinach and beans, ricotta and pecorino cheese, olive oil and nutmeg are characteristic<br />
features. Black croutons with chopped meat, liver, anchovies, capers or the chick peas jam tart<br />
with the Casentino ham are delicious appetizers. Among first courses we would like to mention<br />
the famous “Acquacotta” (a bread soup with eggs, grated cheese and mushrooms broth) and the<br />
“Panzanella” (wet bread melted with onions, cucumbers and tomatoes, seasoned with oil and<br />
vinegar). As an interesting entrée the “Scottiglia” which is a blend of several meats, cooked in an<br />
earthenware pot with tomatoes, vegetables and spices needs a special mention. Speaking about<br />
wines the “Chianti dei Colli Aretini” (red wine) and the “Bianco Vergine di Valdichiana” (white wine)<br />
are both worth being considered.<br />

Ubicata nel Valdarno superiore, sulla riva destra del fiume, fra Arezzo e Firenze,<br />
Terranuova Bracciolini (www.comune.terranuova-bracciolini.ar.it) incarna uno<br />
dei più tipici paesaggi toscani. La prima denominazione, Terranuova, è figlia del progetto<br />
di espansione voluto nel 1300 dalla Repubblica Fiorentina. il nome definitivo lo raggiunge<br />
appena dopo l’unità d’italia, nel 1862, quando Vittorio Emanuele ii stabilisce con decreto<br />
di legare in maniera indissolubile Terranuova al suo figlio più celebre, il grande umanista<br />
Poggio Bracciolini. Pianeggiante e denso di insediamenti produttivi, il territorio di Terranuova<br />
B. diviene collinare e suggestivo verso il Patromagno. qui l’alternanza di case coloniche e<br />
piccoli paesi, di vigneti e oliveti valorizza il patrimonio storico e ambientale, lungo l’antico<br />
percorso della Setteponti, la strada delle Pievi romaniche. Appena fuori Terranuova, ci si<br />
imbatte nel caratteristico paesaggio delle Balze, fenomeno geologico unico nel suo genere<br />
in italia. Siamo in un’area protetta, come la Riserva Naturale della Valle dell’inferno,<br />
area umida nei dintorni dell’Arno. Terranuova ha oggi una robusta economia, legata<br />
all’artigianato, all’industria dell’abbigliamento e della pelletteria, alle energie<br />
rinnovabili, senza dimenticare il settore agro-alimentare (vino, olio, formaggi,<br />
pollame, fagioli zolfini). oltre a Poggio Bracciolini, letterato insigne, Terranuova ha dato<br />

Terranuova Bracciolini (www.comune.terranuova-bracciolini.ar.it) is in the<br />
upper Valdarno, on the right bank of the river, between Arezzo and Florence. The<br />
town embodies one of the most typical Tuscan landscapes. its first name derives from an<br />
expansion project requested, in 1300, by the Florentine Republic. The final name has been<br />
decided and declared in 1862, just after the unification of italy when, by a decree, Victor<br />
Emmanuel ii established to will Terranuova to his most famous son, the great humanist<br />
Poggio Bracciolini. The territory of Terranuova Bracciolini is flat and dense with productive<br />
settlements, then it becomes hilly and evocative in the direction of the “Patromagno” area.<br />
in such area the alternation between farmhouses, small villages and vineyards enhances<br />
the historical and environmental heritage along the old path of the so called “Setteponti”,<br />
the road of the Romanesque parishes. Just outside Terranuova one comes across the<br />
picturesque landscape of Balze, a geologic phenomenon unique of its kind in italy; it is a<br />
protected area, the Valle dell’inferno Wildlife Reservation, a humid place in the vicinity of<br />
the Arno river. Nowadays Terranuova has a strong economy, connected to crafts,<br />
clothing and leather industry, renewable sources, with an eye to the agricultural<br />
and food sector (wine, oil, cheese, poultry, “zolfini” beans). Besides being the birthplace of<br />
Poggio Bracciolini, famous man of letters, Terranuova also gave birth to Brunetto Bucciarelli<br />
Ducci, magistrate, politician and president of the Chamber of Deputies from 1963 to 1968,<br />
replacing Giovanni Gronchi, nominated President of the italian Republic and to Beppe<br />
Bigazzi, a famous gastronomic reviewer.<br />

Il Percorso<br />
Tappa di 189 km con minime difficoltà lungo il percorso ad eccezione del GPM di Perugia posto a circa<br />
25 km dal traguardo. La salita a Perugia (GPM nel salotto cittadino di Corso Vannucci) è l’unica difficoltà<br />
della giornata, con pendenze a doppia cifra su lunghi tratti e talvolta su fondo lastricato, come la linea di<br />
aggiudicazione. i TS sono posti a Castiglion Fiorentino e a Pretola. Dopo il GPM una breve discesa tecnica<br />
seguita da lunghi falsopiani che portano al traguardo accanto allo Stadio Curi con vialoni larghi e rettilinei<br />
intervallati da ampie rotatorie.<br />
Route<br />
The stage is 189 km long and presents only slight difficulties along the route, exception being made for the<br />
Perugina GPM situated at circa 25 km from the finish line. The climb to Perugia (GPM in the downtown elegant<br />
Corso Vannucci) is the unique tricky moment of the day, with a two figures slope along extended road segments<br />
and sometimes also stone paved road bed such as the finishing line. The Bonus Sprints are situated at Castiglion<br />
Fiorentino and at Pretola. Following the GPM, a short descent and a long succession of apparently flat ground<br />
brings the racers to the finish line close to the Stadium, along wide and straight avenues interrupted only by broad<br />
roundabouts.

I primi a credere nello “sperone di roccia” sono gli Umbri che la chiamano<br />
Nequinum. Vengono poi i Romani, che la ergono a baluardo cambiandole il nome in<br />
Narnia, dal fiume Nar che scorre nella valle. il periodo di massimo fulgore alla fine dell’Alto<br />
Medioevo quando, sfruttando la lontananza del Papa, rifugiatosi ad Avignone, Narni (www.<br />
comune.narni.tr.it) ha grande potere e ricchezza, testimoniati dai palazzi nobiliari e le chiese<br />
erette in quegli anni. Paradossalmente, Narni, al ritorno a Roma del Papa, incontra delle<br />
difficoltà per la fortificazione (la Rocca) che viene eretta per difendere il Pontefice.<br />
La chiesa di San Domenico è certamente tra i monumenti architettonici più significativi della<br />
città: adibita a biblioteca per molti anni, si è trasformata in una struttura polivalente per<br />
conferenze e spettacoli. Da non mancare, visitando il centro storico, la Narni Sotterranea<br />
con le segrete dell’inquisizione e il Museo di palazzo Eroli con le opere d’arte più importanti.<br />
L’energia a poco prezzo che si può trarre dal fiume Nera, è la spinta che nel<br />
Novecento cambia il volto della città: fabbriche, opifici, uffici si aggiungono ai segni del<br />
grande passato di Narni, in una stretta integrazione. occasioni culturali e di palato fine sono<br />
ben rappresentate dal Festival del Turismo e della Gastronomia, in programma a ottobre di<br />
ogni anno. Nell’occasione è possibile gustare salumi di pregio quali la pancetta tesa al pepe<br />
o il guanciale al pepe, due tipici esempi della norcineria umbra che offre ghiottonerie come<br />

The first ones to believe in the “rock spur” are the Umbrian which refer to the<br />
town as Nequinum. Thereafter come the Romans, who fix it as bulwark, changing its<br />
name in Narnia, deriving from the Nar river which flows in the valley. The maximum<br />
splendor period is at the end of the early Middle Ages when using the distance from the<br />
Pope, who took refuge in Avignone, when Narni (www.comune.narni.tr.it) was rich and<br />
powerful, whereas such richness is testified by aristocratic palaces, and by the churches<br />
built in those years. Paradoxically Narni, upon the return of the Pope in Rome, suffers<br />
certain difficulties regarding the Rocca fortification which had been expressly constructed to<br />
defend Sovereign Pontiff.<br />
The Church of San Domenico is certainly one of the most significant architectural<br />
monuments of Narni: used as a library for several years, it has then been transformed in a<br />
multipurpose structure dedicated to conferences and shows. When visiting the historical<br />
centre do not miss the underground Narni with its inquisition dungeons and the Museo di<br />
Palazzo Eroli, hosting the most important works of art.<br />
Low price energy that can be obtained from the Nera river is the propelling force<br />
which changed the town in the twentieth century: factories, manufacturing firms and<br />
offices are linked to the shining past of Narni in a close integration. Cultural and gourmet<br />
occasions are well represented by the “Festival del Turismo e della Gastronomia”, scheduled<br />
every year in october. During the Festival one can taste top quality pork products such as the<br />
“pancetta tesa al pepe” (peppered pork belly) or the peppered lard (pork jowl lard), which<br />
are two examples of the umbrian pork butchery that offers delicacies such as the “coppa di<br />
testa” (cured pork head) and the “coglioni di mulo” (small round lean pork sausages). Narni<br />
produces a protected geographical origin wine which has the name of the town, a very<br />
palatable red wine, starting from its early “novello” version.<br />

Il Percorso<br />
Tappa di 240 km che attraversa gli Appennini fino ad arrivare quasi al mare Adriatico. Si attraversano Terni<br />
e Rieti e superata la Sella di Corno si attraversano L’Aquila e le aree colpite dal terremoto del 6 aprile 2009.<br />
Dopo Manoppello Scalo il finale è costituito da oltre 50 km di salite e discese senza soluzione di continuità.<br />
Si affrontano senza intervalli di recupero molti degli strappi più duri della zona come quelli che portano a<br />
Casalincontrada (TS), Bucchianico (TS), Villamagna (GPM), Ripa Teatina, Torrevecchia Teatina. La tappa si conclude<br />
sulle lunghe rampe di via dei Marsi e via del Tricalle, dove allo scollinamento (GPM) mancherà circa 1 km ancora in<br />
leggera salita all’arrivo in corso Marrucino.<br />
Route<br />
The stage is 240 km long and crosses the Apennines Mountains quite reaching the Adriatic Sea. The road crosses<br />
the towns of Terni and Rieti, and after the passing of the Sella di Corno it proceeds through L’Aquila and the areas<br />
struck by the April 6, 2009 earthquake. After passing Manoppello Scalo the final segment counts more than 50<br />
km of uninterrupted uphill and downhill road. With no time for recovery the riders have to face a great number of<br />
the area’s hardest spurts, such as those leading to Casalincontrada (TS), Bucchianico (TS), Villamagna (GPM), Ripa<br />
Teatina, Torrevecchia Teatina. The stage comes to an end along the extended slopes of the via dei Marsi and via<br />
del Tricalle, when at the time of the GPM downhill descent the finish into corso Marrucino is still more or less 1<br />
km far, along a slightly climbing road.

LAST KILOMETERS<br />
At the beginning they run along wide roads with slight or steep downhill slopes, and a road bed in good conditions,<br />
and so up to 2100 m from the finish featuring a roundabout introducing into via dei Marsi. Then comes approximately<br />
1 km of steep slopes. Two particularly difficult segments have to be signaled, i.e. a first one 400 m long at 14% with<br />
peaks reaching 19%, and a second one 350 m long at <strong>15</strong>%; these two sections are interrupted by a small diameter<br />
roundabout on mostly flat ground. The GPM is situated on the point of introduction into via F. Salomone, 1 km far from<br />
the finish. From the last bend to the finish line, the road is 200 m long, 5.5 m wide and paved.<br />

Le origini di Chieti (www.comune.chieti.it) affondano nella mitologia: la si<br />
attribuisce ad Achille, l’eroe, che la chiamò Teate in onore della madre. Altri la<br />
dicono fondata dai Pelasgi, altri ancora sostengono che a fondarla sia stato Ettore, 494<br />
anni prima di Roma. Di certo Chieti ha ospitato il bellicoso popolo dei Marrucini, per un<br />
secolo avversari dei Romani, con i quali fecero pace. Crollato l’impero, Chieti fu distrutta<br />
dalle ondate barbariche di Visigoti ed Eruli, ma ebbe nuovo splendore sotto le dominazioni<br />
longobarda, normanna, angioina e aragonese.<br />
La città vive di due nuclei, la parte Alta, borgo monumentale, e Chieti Scalo, la zona più<br />
moderna e commerciale, che ospita larga parte dei 20 mila studenti dell’università Gabriele<br />
d’Annunzio. Tra le molte ricorrenze il Maggio Teatino, in occasione della festa patronale di<br />
San Giustino. Suggestive e celeberrime le ricostruzioni storico-medievali: la sfilata degli<br />
sbandieratori, l’allestimento della Giostra del Saracino e la processione del Santo Patrono.<br />
ogni anno lo sport teatino consegna il Premio Giuseppe Prisco, attribuito a personaggi del<br />
giornalismo. in giuria, fra gli altri, Sergio Zavoli e Antonio Ghirelli e italo Cucci. Di origini<br />
teatine sono le cantanti Paola & Chiara e Daniele Toto, politico e imprenditore italiano.<br />
Sergio Marchionne, ad di Fiat, è nato a Chieti, così come Anton Giulio Majano, celebre<br />
regista e sceneggiatore.<br />
La ventricina e la tomasella, insaccati di pregio, sono tra i vanti gastronomici<br />
di Chieti dove recita la parte del leone la pasta alla chitarra. A chiudere il pasto<br />
i calcionetti, dolcetti a forma di raviolo, e la Cicerchiata, una ciambella ricoperta di<br />
miele, tipico dolce di carnevale. Numerosi i vini prodotti in zona dove si distinguono il<br />
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (rosso) e il Trebbiano (bianco). Come digestivo va forte il vin cotto.<br />

Chieti’s origin (www.comune.chieti.it) plunges its roots into mythology: its<br />
foundation is attributed to Achilles, the hero who called it Teate in honor of his<br />
mother. According to a different source it has been founded by the Pelasgi, while some<br />
other claim that it was built by hector, 494 years prior to Rome. one fact known for certain<br />
is that the city hosted the pugnacious Marrucini people who fought for a century against the<br />
Romans and then signed a peace treaty. After the fall of the Empire, Chieti was destroyed by<br />
the barbarian hordes of Visigoths and heruli, but was born to renewed splendor under the<br />
Lombard, Norman, Angevin’s and Aragonese rule. The city is made of two different kernels,<br />
the uptown which is a kind of small village with antique monuments, and Chieti Scalo, the<br />
modern business district which accommodates a great number of the 20 thousand students of<br />
the Gabriele d’Annunzio university. Among many celebrations, worth of mention is the Maggio<br />
Teatino, on the occasion of the patron saint San Giustino festival. it features well known<br />
and picturesque Middle Ages historical recollections such as the parade of flag-waivers, the<br />
staging of the Giostra del Saracino (Saracen Joust, an antique chivalry game) and the Patron<br />
Saint procession. Every year the Chieti’s sporting authority awards the Giuseppe Prisco’s prize,<br />
which goes to important figures of the journalistic world. Members of the Jury, are, among<br />
others, Sergio Zavoli, Antonio Ghirelli and italo Cucci. Natives of the city of Chieti are the well<br />
known singers Paola & Chiara and also Daniele Toto, an italian politician and entrepreneur.<br />
Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s chief executive officer, was born in Chieti, as well as Anton Giulio<br />
Majano, famous screen writer and director. “Ventricina” and “tomasella” some types<br />
of pork salami embossed in natural casing, are prides of the Chieti’s gastronomy<br />
where the lion’s share is held by the “pasta alla chitarra” (kind of spaghetti with a<br />
square section). To conclude the meal Chieti presents the calcionetti, small cakes in the size<br />
of ravioli, and the Cicerchiata, similar to a doughnut, covered with honey and usually served at<br />
Carnival. The local wine production is important and famous for the names of Montepulciano<br />
d’Abruzzo (red wine) and Trebbiano (white wine). The “vin cotto” made of cooked grape must,<br />
is largely appreciated as digestive.<br />

Il Percorso<br />
È la tappa di montagna della Tirreno Adriatico <strong>2011</strong>, lunga 240 km con oltre 3000 m di dislivello. Dopo un<br />
avvicinamento lungo il mare i ciclisti entreranno nell’Appennino Teramano e Piceno per dirigersi verso Sarnano<br />
(TS), da cui si affronta la “Cima Coppi” della Tirreno-Adriatico: la scalata del Sasso Tetto (Valico di Santa Maria<br />
Maddalena - 1455 m). La discesa tecnica porta all’ultima parte dove salite e discese si susseguono senza sosta. A<br />
Camerino si affronta il Muro della Madonna delle Carceri di quasi 2 km con pendenze oltre il 20% nella prima parte<br />
e comunque sempre in doppia cifra. Si raggiunge quindi Castelraimondo per continui saliscendi dove superata la<br />
linea di arrivo si percorre un circuito di 26.6 km.<br />
Route<br />
This is the mountain stage of the <strong>2011</strong> Tirreno-Adriatico, covering a distance of 240 km and featuring a more<br />
than 3000 m gradient. Following an approach along the seafront, the riders shall enter the Teramano and Piceno’s<br />
Apennines directed towards Sarnano (TS), starting point of the Tirreno-Adriatico’s “Cima Coppi”: the climb of the<br />
Sasso Tetto (Mountain pass of Santa Maria Maddalena - 1455 m). The technical descent leads to the last segment<br />
where uphill climbs and downhill descents follow one another with no interruption. At Camerino the race is facing<br />
the Madonna delle Carceri Wall, an almost 2 km long road, featuring gradients superior to 20% in its first part, and<br />
however still a two figures gradient. The riders then reach Castelraimondo through continuous up and down slopes,<br />
and after crossing the finishing line they will have to perform a 26,6 km circuit.<br />

Circuito finale caratterizzato da due salite brevi, ma secche. Dopo 7 km si taglia il Traguardo<br />
Speciale di Castel Santa Maria (brevi strappi tra al 12-13% su circa 2 km), si raggiunge su<br />
un percorso di carreggiata ristretta Matelica (passaggio a livello in uscita dall’abitato) per<br />
portarsi poi a Gagliole dove a 6.5 km dall’arrivo è assegnato il terzo GPM di giornata (800<br />
m al 13% con punte leggermente superiori). Discesa tecnica fino ai 2 km dal traguardo. Da<br />
segnalare, a circa 400 m dall’arrivo, la curva a destra che immette nel centro abitato, con<br />
uscita in salita tra il 5% e il 2% fino all’arrivo, sempre in leggera ascesa, su asfalto largo 7 m.<br />

The final circuit presents two short however steep climbs. After 7 km the race encounters the Bonus Sprint of Castel<br />
Santa Maria (short spurts between 12-13% on approximately 2 km), then reaching through a narrowed road, the town<br />
of Matelica (level crossing at the city outskirts) and proceeding towards Gagliole (at 6,5 km from the finish line), where<br />
the third GPM of the day (800 m at 13%, with some slightly higher peaks) shall be assigned. Technical descent until 2<br />
km from the finish line. We wish to signal, at approximately 400 m from the finish, the presence of a bend to the right<br />
introducing the town center, and exiting in a 5 to 2% continuous climb until the finishing line, on a 7 m wide asphalt road.<br />

Borgo medievale in provincia di Macerata, Castelraimondo (www.comune.<br />
castelraimondo.mc.it) svela sin dallo stemma le proprie origini. Vi compare infatti il<br />
Cassero, torre di avvistamento che faceva capo al sistema dell’intigliata, una linea di<br />
torri, fossati e muraglioni fatti edificare dalla signoria dei Da Varano a difesa della vicina<br />
Camerino, durante le guerre con Matelica e San Severino. La data di costruzione del centro<br />
fortificato è compresa tra il 1311 e il 1318: nasce allora il Castrum Raimundi alla confluenza<br />
del rio Lapidoso con il fiume Potenza. un’opera di grande ingegneria militare, di cui restano<br />
parti delle mura.<br />
Castelraimondo vive di artigianato e piccola industria, ma soprattutto di turismo,<br />
grazie al reticolo di frazioni sul territorio (Brondoleto, Castel Santa Maria, Castel<br />
Sant’Angelo, Collina, Crispiero, Rustano), tutte ricche di storia, d’arte e di tradizione.<br />
Da non perdere il Museo “Maria Sofia Giustiniani Bandini”, allestito all’interno del<br />
complesso storico monumentale del Castello. una dimora imponente, circondata da un<br />
parco secolare di grande suggestione e alto valore naturalistico, voluta dai Malatesta. ogni<br />
anno qui si celebra l’infiorata, legata alle cerimonie del Corpus Domini. Fra le attrattive di<br />
Castelraimondo la gastronomia di livello, con pastifici artigianali e un ottima selezione di<br />
formaggi e salumi. Ma è il tartufo nero che la fa da padrone, attrattiva di tutta la Marca di<br />
Camerino. Tra i personaggi celebri nati in questo borgo, vanno ricordati Nazareno Strambelli,<br />
uno dei pionieri dell’agronomia genetica e ugo Bottacchiari, compositore allievo a Pesaro di<br />
Mascagni.<br />

Castelraimondo, which is a medieval small village in the province of Macerata<br />
(www.comune.castelraimondo.mc.it), reveals its origins since its coat of arms. indeed<br />
the coat of arms shows the Cassero, a sighting tower which belonged to the intigliata system,<br />
and included towers, fosses and massive walls erected by the Da Varano signory to defend<br />
the neighbor town of Camerino during the wars against Matelica and San Severino. The<br />
construction date of the fortress falls between 1311 and 1318: then the Castrum Raimundi<br />
was built, at the confluence of the rio Lapidoso with the Potenza river. A work of great military<br />
engineering, of which we can still admire some remains of the walls.<br />
Castelraimondo depends upon handicraft and small industries, but above all, from<br />
tourism thanks to the network of small villages on its territory (Brondoleto, Castel<br />
Santa Maria, Castel Sant’Angelo, Collina, Crispiero, Rustano), which are all rich of history,<br />
arts and tradition. unmissable is the “Maria Sofia Giustiniani Bandini” museum located on<br />
the premises of the monumental castle complex, a magnificent residence surrounded by a<br />
centuries old suggestive park holding a high naturalistic value, which construction has been<br />
requested by the Malatesta. Every year the town celebrates the infiorata, connected to the<br />
Corpus Domini ceremonies. Among the attractions of Castelraimondo, top gastronomy shall be<br />
mentioned, with its handicraft pasta factories and a first-rate selection of cheeses and salamis.<br />
Though the king here is the black truffle, attraction of all the Camerino Marche. Camerino<br />
counts famous names born in this small town, like Nazareno Strambelli, one of the pioneers of<br />
genetic agronomy and ugo Bottacchiari, composer and pupil of Mascagni in Pesaro.<br />

Ussita (www.comune.ussita.mc.it) è un centro marchigiano tipicamente montano<br />
che si sviluppa su numerose piccole frazioni, tutte adagiate alle pendici del<br />
Monte Bove. Si presenta come un comune sparso, con il Municipio ubicato in località<br />
Fluminata, dov’è ospitato un interessante Archivio. Vi si conservano le testimonianze di<br />
vicende politiche e amministrative che nel corso dei secoli hanno segnato la vita della<br />
piccola e fiera comunità. La storia di ussita è legata a quella di Visso, di cui era la più<br />
importante delle cinque “guaite” che nel Xiii secolo, svincolatesi dall’autorità dei feudatari,<br />
entrarono a far parte del comune, mantenendo sempre autonomia amministrativa nel<br />
proprio territorio. È del 1380 la costruzione del castello sul colle Fantellino, voluto da<br />
Rodolfo da Varano, di cui è rimasta solo la torre in pietra del XiV secolo a base quadrata.<br />
Della cinta muraria trapezoidale, difesa da cinque torri e da un fossato esterno, sono visibili<br />
i ruderi in località Castel Murato.<br />
D’inverno a Ussita si pratica molto lo sci, grazie ai campi di Frontignano (www.<br />
ussita-frontignano.com) che presentano impianti rinnovati di recente. D’estate<br />
prende sempre più piede la pratica del nordic walking. Per quasi tutto l’anno sono aperti la<br />
piscina e il palaghiaccio, uno dei pochi regolamentari del Centro italia dove si svolge attività<br />
hockeistica.<br />
Lenticchie, ciauscolo (un insaccato tipico), salsicce, pecorini vari da gustare accostati<br />
al pane del luogo, rigorosamente cotto in forno a legna. Li troverete in questo o quel<br />
pizzicagnolo del luogo, dove potrete gustare anche il prosciutto tagliato a mano, una vera<br />
prelibatezza del luogo, che ben si accompagna alla Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, spumante doc<br />
vanto della zona.<br />

Ussita (www.comune.ussita.mc.it) is a typical mountain village of the Marche<br />
region, which develops in several small hamlets, all settled on the slopes of<br />
the Bove mountain. ussita is a scattered municipality, the town hall is in the Fluminata<br />
hamlet, which hosts a very interesting archive that contains the vestiges of political<br />
and administrative events which during the ages have marked the life of this small and<br />
proud community. The story of ussita is connected to that of Visso, whereas ussita<br />
was the most important district (guaita) of Visso, which in the Thirteenth Century, freed<br />
from the authority of the feudal lords became part of the municipality, keeping their<br />
administrative autonomy in their territory. The construction of the castle on the Fantellino<br />
hill, commissioned by Rodolfo da Varano dates back to 1380. Nowadays the huge central<br />
square tower of the Fourteenth Century is the only remain. The ruins of the trapeziform<br />
castle walls, defended by five towers and an external moat, are visible from Castel Murato.<br />
In winter time Ussita Frontignano is well known for skiing activities (www.<br />
ussita-frontignano.com) and all the sport facilities have been recently renovated.<br />
in summertime Nordic walking is becoming more and more popular. The swimming pool<br />
and the ice rink (one of the few in the prescribed form in Central italy hosting hockey<br />
activities) are open almost all year.<br />
Lentils, “ciauscolo” (a typical salami), sausages, different kinds of pecorino cheese are<br />
to be savored with the local bread, cooked in a wood-burning oven. Such specialties can<br />
be found at the local delicatessen merchant, together with the hand cut ham, a typical<br />
delicacy which goes well with the Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, a sparkling wine which is the<br />
pride of this land.<br />

Dopo un avvicinamento attraverso la Provincia di Macerata (passaggio a Serrapetrona e San Severino<br />
Marche e il GPM a Pietra Rossa nei pressi di Cingoli), con uno “sconfinamento” in Provincia di Ancona per<br />
attraversare Filottrano (TS), si affrontano 2 giri di un duro circuito che fa perno su Macerata. in particolare<br />
la salita della Madonna del Monte (16% per alcuni tratti) viene affrontata così per 3 volte e l’accesso a<br />
Macerata avviene attraverso le dure rampe di Borgo San Giuliano (pendenze fino al 18%). L’arrivo è posto<br />
nel centro storico di Macerata, in Piazza della Libertà.<br />
Route<br />
Following an approach throughout the Province of Macerata (crossing Serrapetrona and San Severino<br />
Marche and the GPM at Pietra Rossa near Cingoli), with a “border crossing” into the Province of Ancona,<br />
passing through Filottrano (TS), the race faces 2 laps of a tough circuit centered on Macerata. Actually the<br />
climb of the Madonna del Monte (some sections reaching 16%) has to be performed three times and the<br />
access to Macerata rolls out along the steep ramps of Borgo San Giuliano (gradient up to 18%). The finish<br />
takes place in Piazza della Libertà, in the historical downtown Macerata.

L’origine di Macerata (www.comune.macerata.it), si fa risalire al 553 d.C: quando<br />
Alarico re dei Visigoti distrusse la colonia romana Helvia Recina, posta sulle rive<br />
del fiume Potenza, lungo la via Flaminia. Dopo di allora gli abitanti cercarono scampo<br />
in collina, ove si erge l’antico borgo medievale, edificato fra l’Xi e il Xii secolo. Vivace nei<br />
mutamenti politici, Macerata ha trascorso varie dominazioni: dapprima ghibellina, poi<br />
guelfa, diviene Signoria sotto i Malucci, i Camerino, gli Sforza. Alla fine del Settecento la<br />
svolta che ne segna il destino: i francesi annettono d’imperio Macerata alla Repubblica<br />
romana e la città si ribella, mettendo in fuga le truppe napoleoniche. La rappresaglia<br />
è feroce, con centinaia di vittime innocenti. L’anima rivoluzionaria di Macerata troverà<br />
conferme in occasione dei primi moti carbonari, nel sostegno manifesto a Garibaldi, nelle<br />
lotte per l’unità d’italia. Impensabile lasciare Macerata senza aver fatto visita allo<br />
Sferisterio, stadio riservato al gioco del bracciale, a un passo da Piazza Mercato.<br />
Curioso e da non perdere il Museo della Carrozza, arricchitosi nel tempo di pezzi pregiati.<br />
immancabili, a tavola, i vincisgrassi, una specie di lasagna accompagnata da regalie<br />
di pollo. Come dappertutto in zona, da non perdere i salumi (dal ciauscolo al salame<br />
lardellato, dalla salsiccia di fegato al lonzino, tutte prelibatezze). Di pregio anche il pecorino,<br />
variamente aromatizzato (al tartufo e al peperoncino). Buoni suggerimenti sono il vin cotto,<br />
mosto bollito in recipienti di rame, e i liquori: la sapa (mosto e spezie varie), il giuggiulone<br />
(vino macerato tre anni con le giuggiole), l’amaro dei Sibillini e il vino di Visciole, antiche<br />
ciliege selvatiche. Maceratese illustre è Padre Matteo Ricci, gesuita e uomo di scienza:<br />
va ricordato come il primo missionario in Cina, Paese che gli tributa ogni onore per aver<br />
divulgato il suo sapere in quell’immenso territorio.<br />

The origin of Macerata (www.comune.macerata.it) dates back to 553 A.C. as Alaric,<br />
King of Visigoths destroyed the Roman colony of Helvia Recina established on the<br />
bank of the Potenza river, along the Flaminia Road. Afterwards the inhabitants used<br />
to seek safety on the hillside where the medieval village built between the eleventh and the<br />
twelfth century still stands. Macerata underwent a series of animated political changes under<br />
many different rules, i.e. in a first time the Ghibelline, then the Guelfths, before becoming<br />
dominion of the Malucci, of the Camerino, and the Sforza. At the end of the sixteenth century<br />
the turning point that changed the fate of the town: the French peremptorily annexed Macerata<br />
to the Roman Republic and the people rose, putting the Napoleonic army to flight. The<br />
retaliation measure was ferocious and caused hundreds of innocent victims. The Macerata’s<br />
revolutionary spirit would arise again on the occasion of the Carbonari rebellion, in blatant<br />
support to Garibaldi, and during the struggle for the unification of italy.<br />
It would be unthinkable to leave Macerata without a visit to the Sferisterio, a stadium<br />
reserved to the “Pallone con il bracciale” (an old athletic fronton sport), located<br />
in the vicinity of the Piazza Mercato. Another visit that shall not be missed is that to the<br />
Carriage Museum rich of valuable equipage. Among the local cuisine specialties the inevitable<br />
“vincisgrassi”, a variety of Lasagna which is served with chicken giblets are worth being<br />
mentioned. As everywhere in this area, do not miss the delicatessen pork meat specialties<br />
(beginning with the “ciauscolo”, a smoked and dry-cured salami, to the bacon stripped sausage,<br />
from liver sausage to “lonzino”). As far as cheese is concerned, we find the mostly praised<br />
pecorino, occasionally flavored with truffles or hot pepper. A good suggestion could be the “vin<br />
cotto”, must boiled in a copper pot, and various liqueurs such as the “sapa” (must and spices),<br />
the “giuggiulone” (a three years old wine macerated with jujube), the Sibillini’s bitter, and the<br />
Visciole wine, made of wild sour cherries.<br />
Among renowned people born in Macerata we shall mention Father Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit and<br />
scientist who is remembered as the first missionary to China, a country where, up to these days,<br />
his name is celebrated for having popularized his knowledge throughout such a vast territory.<br />

ampi viali fino alla discesa ripida e tecnica su Villa Potenza dove ci si immette sul<br />
tratto centrale pianeggiante che porta a 8.5 km dall’arrivo. Si qui affronta la salita<br />
di Madonna del Monte (1.5 km al 9.4% max 16%) per arrivare a Macerata all’ultimo<br />
chilometro. Si superano quindi i 500 m molto ripidi (media 11.3% max 18%) di Borgo<br />
San Giuliano che immettono con una stretta svolta verso destra in viale Leopardi. Di<br />
qui si prosegue per i giri di circuito e all’ultimo passaggio si svolta a tornante verso<br />
sinistra (circa 350 m dall’arrivo) in Rampa Zara per raggiungere la retta di arrivo di<br />
170 m (larga 5 m), su lastricato, dove la pendenza si mantiene attorno al 6%.<br />

Final circuit on a distance of 19.<strong>15</strong>0 m to be repeated twice. The race skirts the town of Macerata along broad<br />
avenues, up to the steep and technical descent towards Villa Potenza, where it introduces the flat landscape of the<br />
central segment leading to 8.5 km from the finish. Competitors have then to face the uphill climb of Madonna del<br />
Monte (1.5 km with a 9.4% gradient and a maximum of 16%), reaching Macerata in the last kilometer. Further on<br />
comes the very steep 500 m long segment of Borgo San Giuliano (average gradient 11.3% maximum 18%) which<br />
introduces, with a sharp bend to the right, into viale Leopardi. Then the riders perform the required circuit laps and at<br />
the last passage they make a curve to the left (approximately 350 m from finish line) into Rampa Zara, in order to reach<br />
the 170 m long, 5 m wide, straight finish road, with paved road bed, where the slant is still around 6%.

San Benedetto del Tronto, una delle maggiori città rivierasche dell’Adriatico, gode di<br />
giusta fama come centro industriale e commerciale ma si fregia anche del titolo di<br />
“regina del turismo marchigiano”. Fa infatti parte della “Riviera delle Palme”, il tratto costiero<br />
che include i comuni di San Benedetto, Grottammare e Cupra Marittima, tutti oggetto di grande<br />
attenzione turistica, italiana e internazionale. Né vanno dimenticati i monti che la “proteggono”,<br />
dal Vettore al Gran Sasso d’italia alla Maiella. Alcuni reperti archeologici ritrovati sulla sponda<br />
destra del fiume Albula ascrivono ai romani l’origine di San Benedetto. Contesa a lungo fra Ascoli<br />
e Fermo, vessata da saccheggi e devastazioni, San Benedetto fatica a espandersi sul mare, almeno<br />
fino al XVii secolo. La svolta viene dalla costruzione della linea ferroviaria adriatica (1863)<br />
che prelude all’apertura dei primi stabilimenti balneari, sorti a fine secolo. Del 1896, per<br />
Regio decreto, la denominazione aggiuntiva “del Tronto”. Negli anni ’30 del Novecento, tra i diversi<br />
lavori di sistemazione viene approntato anche il viale a mare largo 30 metri: Ai tempi giudicato<br />
spropositato, è oggi uno dei più ampi e maestosi viali a mare d’italia. Di recentissima apertura il<br />
Museo della Civiltà Marinara nelle Marche (www.comunesbt.it), che completa il “Polo museale<br />
del Mare”, all’interno del porto. Si affianca infatti al Museo delle Anfore e all’ittico Caprotti.<br />
Personaggi che hanno illustrato San Benedetto sono Giuseppe Sacconi, cui si deve il monumento<br />
romano del Vittoriano; Bice Piacentini, poetessa in vernacolo sanbenedettese e il celebre<br />
fumettista Andrea Pazienza (Paz), prematuramente scomparso, cui la città ha dedicato una piazza.<br />
Vanti culinari di San Benedetto sono il brodetto, pregevole zuppa di pesce con peperoni e aceto,<br />
piccante al punto giusto, le fritture (olive all’ascolana, cremini) e i numerosi piatti di pesce e carne,<br />
da accompagnare con il Falerio dei Colli, acidulo, secco, da bere giovane, perfetto per molluschi e<br />
crostacei, o l’offida. il Rosso Piceno, variante Superiore, trionfa con le carni.<br />

San Benedetto del Tronto, one of the most important town on the Adriatic Riviera, enjoys<br />
a well-deserved reputation as industrial and business centre, but also boasts the title of<br />
“queen of tourism of the Marches region”. The city is actually part of the “Riviera delle Palme”,<br />
or “Palm tree Riviera”, the segment of coastline that includes the townships of San Benedetto,<br />
Grottammare and Cupra Marittima, all well-known italian and international tourism targets. To<br />
say nothing of the mountains which “watch” over the city, from Vettore to the Gran Sasso d’italia<br />
and the Maiella. Based on some archeological finds on the right bank of the Albula river, the origin<br />
of San Benedetto can be ascribed to the Romans. Contended for a long time between Ascoli and<br />
Fermo, harassed by pillage and devastation, San Benedetto had a hard time to expand towards the<br />
sea, at least until the seventeenth century. The turning point came with the construction of<br />
the Adriatic railway (1863) introducing the opening of the first bathing establishments<br />
(lido) which sprang up at the end of the century. in 1896 the adjunction of “del Tronto” to the<br />
city name was made by Royal Decree. in the thirties of the eighteenth century, a great number of<br />
public works took place including the construction of a 30 meters wide seaside promenade. At that<br />
time it was considered as an exaggeration, but nowadays this promenade is one of the largest and<br />
more imposing seafront in italy. A Museum dedicated to the Marine Civilization in the Marches<br />
Province (www.comunesbt.it) has been recently inaugurated, and is due to complement the “Sea<br />
Museum Pole” on the premises of the port facilities. Actually this Museum is situated in a position<br />
close to the Amphora’s Museum and the Caprotti ittico. Among the famous people who gave fame<br />
to San Benedetto we shall mention Giuseppe Sacconi, who built the “Vittoriano”, a most important<br />
monument in the city of Rome; Bice Piacentini, a vernacular poetess in the original idiom of San<br />
Benedetto, and finally the well known cartoonist Andrea Pazienza (Paz), who died in young age<br />
and had his name given to a city square. The San Benedetto culinary specialties are essentially the<br />
“brodetto” a fine and slightly spicy fish soup made with bell pepper and vinegar, fried foods such as<br />
“olive all’ascolana” (breaded olives) and cremini, as well as a choice of fish and meat dishes, with<br />
accompanying wines matching their savor, such as the Falerio dei Colli, acidulous and dry, perfect<br />
with shellfish, or the Rosso Piceno, a superior red wine, a real treat over red meat.<br />

Cronometro individuale su un percorso che ricalca in gran parte il circuito finale delle tappe conclusive<br />
degli ultimi anni. La partenza è posta davanti alla Capitaneria di Porto e si procede verso Porto d’Ascoli<br />
lungo il mare. Da Piazza Salvo d’Acquisto (cronometraggio intermedio) si risale fino al San Benedetto del<br />
Tronto dove la corsa termina sul traguardo tradizionale di viale Buozzi. Gli ultimi 2.5 km sono praticamente<br />
rettilinei.<br />

Benedetto del Tronto where the race comes to an end on the traditional viale Buozzi’ finishing line. The last<br />
2.5 km are almost on straight road.

La Guardia Costiera alla Tirreno-Adriatico<br />
Anche quest’anno la Guardia Costiera rinnova la propria partecipazione alla<br />
Tirreno-Adriatico. La Guardia Costiera svolge compiti e funzioni collegate in prevalenza<br />
con l’uso del mare per i fini civili e che ha tra le principali linee di attività la ricerca e il<br />
soccorso in mare, la sicurezza della navigazione e la protezione dell’ambiente marino.<br />
una partecipazione per certi versi inaspettata, ma a guardar bene logica, e forse dovuta. il<br />
mare infatti è il fil rouge della “corsa dei due mari” che attraverso storie tradizioni e bellezze<br />
naturali unisce comunità sul percorso che va da una sponda all’altra dell’italia.<br />
Si giustifica dunque la presenza della Guardia Costiera che nelle sette tappe previste<br />
parlerà, ai tanti appassionati incontrati sulle strade, di mare e di come goderlo in modo<br />
giusto, rispettandolo e in sicurezza. un modo diverso di avvicinare tante persone che per<br />
motivi geografici limitano il proprio rapporto con il mare al periodo delle vacanze estive.<br />
Grazie all’opportunità offerta da RCS Sport e da La Gazzetta dello Sport, incontreremo in<br />
ogni tappa molti giovani a cui spiegare in modo semplice e informale come ci si accosta<br />
all’universo blu. in mare, così come accade nel ciclismo, il confronto costante con la natura<br />
e con il paesaggio è una conquista. queste due dimensioni uniscono, appassionano ed<br />
entusiasmano allo stesso modo.
Gli appuntamenti di Biciscuola<br />
Il progetto mira a coinvolgere e sensibilizzare i bambini delle città “toccate” dalla<br />
corsa dei due mari in un’attività di edutainment che sia in grado di comunicare sia<br />
cos’è la Tirreno-Adriatico sia i principi del rispetto dell’ambiente e dell’ecologia.<br />
Nelle partenze di tappa, n. 4 classi del territorio parteciperanno ad attività didatticoludiche<br />
legate ai temi di progetto, che si svolgeranno in un’area dedicata vicina alla zona di<br />
partenza:<br />
• “Il mare con la Guardia Costiera”: attività in collaborazione con la Guardia Costiera<br />
che insegnerà ai ragazzi a conoscere e rispettare il mare, oltre a presentare brevemente<br />
l’organizzazione ed i compiti istituzionali della Guardia Costiera<br />
• “L’angolo del meccanico”: un esperto che insegnerà ai ragazzi la corretta manutenzione<br />
della bici e cosa fare in caso di piccoli problemi meccanici<br />
• “Crea la tua Ricicletta”: ogni alunno potrà realizzare il suo modellino di “Ricicletta”, una<br />
bicicletta realizzata con materiali di recupero di uso quotidiano (giornali, stracci, bottiglie,<br />
eccetera)<br />
Negli arrivi di tappa, le scuole di ciclismo giovanili del territorio saranno invitate a<br />
partecipare a una competizione non agonistica che si svolgerà prima dell’arrivo della Corsa,<br />
lungo gli ultimi metri del rettilineo finale d’arrivo.<br />

ART. 1 - Organizzazione<br />

ADRiATiCo, corsa ciclistica internazionale a tappe del calendario internazionale uCi, secondo i regolamenti dell’unione Ciclistica internazionale.<br />
La corsa avrà inizio a Marina di Carrara mercoledì 9 <strong>marzo</strong> e terminerà a S. Benedetto del Tronto il <strong>15</strong> <strong>marzo</strong> e seguirà il seguente programma itinerario.<br />

ART. 2 - Tipo di prova<br />
La prova è riservata alla categoria homme Elite ed è iscritta al calendario<br />
uCi alla classe historique ed assegnerà punti secondo quanto previsto dal<br />
regolamento vigente.<br />
CLASSiFiCA GENERALE<br />
Ai primi 10 della classifi ca generale fi nale rispettivamente punti: 100, 80,<br />
70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 4<br />
CLASSiFiCA Di TAPPA<br />
Ai primi 5 classifi cati di ogni tappa rispettivamente punti: 6, 4, 2, 1, 1<br />
ART. 3 - Partecipazione<br />
Secondo l’articolo 2.1.005 del regolamento uCi, la gara è riservata<br />
agli uCi Pro Teams ed alle Equipes Continentales Professionnelles. in<br />
conformità con l’art. 2.2.003 del regolamento uCi il numero massimo<br />
di corridori per squadra è di 8 (otto) e quello minimo 5 (cinque). in<br />
ogni caso l’organizzazione, al fi ne di salvaguardare l’immagine e la<br />
reputazione della propria gara, si riserva il diritto di rifi utare, fi no al<br />
momento della partenza, i corridori o i Gruppi Sportivi che con i propri<br />
atti o dichiarazioni dimostrassero di venire meno ai principi di lealtà<br />
sportiva agl’impegni assunti e previsti dal paragrafo 1.1.023 del<br />
regolamento uCi. inoltre nel caso che i corridori o il Gruppo sportivo<br />
venissero meno nel corso della manifestazione, ai principi di cui al<br />
precedente capoverso, l’Ente organizzatore si riserva anche il diritto di<br />
escluderli dalla corsa in qualsiasi momento.<br />
ART. 4 - Quartiertappa<br />
Gli accrediti uffi ciali e i preliminari sono fi ssati a Marina di Carrara nei<br />
locali dell’Autorità Portuale, in Viale Cristoforo Colombo, 6, dalle ore<br />
10.00 alle ore 18.00 di martedì 8 <strong>marzo</strong> <strong>2011</strong>. La conferma dei partenti<br />
ed il ritiro dei numeri da parte dei responsabili delle squadre è fi ssato al<br />
quartiertappa dalle <strong>15</strong>.00 alle 16.45 martedì 8 <strong>marzo</strong>.<br />
Nello stesso giorno alle ore 17.00 presso il quartiertappa si svolgerà la<br />

riunione della Direzione dell’organizzazione con i Commissari di Giuria e<br />
i Direttori sportivi, organizzata secondo l’art. 1.2.087 del regolamento uCi.<br />
ART 5 - Radioinformazioni<br />
Le informazioni in corsa sono diffuse sulla frequenza di 149,800 Mhz.<br />
ART. 6 - Assistenza tecnica<br />
il servizio di assistenza tecnica è assicurato dalla ViTToRiA con 3 vetture.<br />
ART. 7 - Rifornimento<br />
i rifornimenti si svolgono secondo gli art. 2.3.025 / 26 / 27 del regolamento<br />
uCi. Le aree di rifornimento fi sso, di ogni tappa, sono indicate con R nelle<br />
rispettive planimetrie e tabelle chilometriche e segnalate da appositi<br />
pannelli lungo i percorsi di gara.<br />
ART. 8 - Passaggi a livello<br />
i passaggi a livello sono indicati nelle tabelle chilometriche e segnalati<br />
lungo il percorso di gara da appositi pannelli a 1 km PL.<br />
Nell’eventualità di chiusure si applicheranno gli art. 2.3.034 e 2.3.035 del<br />
regolamento uCi.<br />
ART. 9 - Incidenti in corsa negli ultimi 3 Km<br />
L’art. 2.6.027 del regolamento uCi, incidenti in corsa negli ultimi 3 km, non<br />
è applicabile alle seguenti tappe con arrivo in salita.<br />
4^ tappa, Narni - Chieti, 6^ tappa ussita - Macerata.<br />
ART. 10 - Cronometraggio<br />
il tempo uffi ciale è registrato dal giudice d’arrivo.<br />
i corridori avranno in dotazione un transponder per la rilevazione<br />
automatica dei tempi, da applicare sul telaio, obbligatoriamente.<br />
ART. 11 - Tempo massimo<br />
Al fi ne di determinare il tempo massimo di percorrenza le tappe sono state<br />
suddivise in quattro categorie con riguardo alla diversa natura del percorso:
• categoria a: tappe senza particolari diffi coltà<br />
• categoria b: tappe di media diffi coltà<br />
• categoria c: tappe di grande diffi coltà<br />
• categoria d: tappe a cronometro individuale e a squadre<br />
Conseguentemente il tempo massimo è stato cosi’ fi ssato:<br />
• per la categoria a) il tempo del vincitore è aumentato:<br />
del 7% se la media è uguale od inferiore a 40 Km/h.<br />
dell’8% se la media è compresa tra 40 e 45 Km/h<br />
del 10% se la media è superiore ai 45 Km/h<br />
• per la categoria b) il tempo del vincitore è aumentato:<br />
dell’8% se la media è uguale od inferiore a 35 Km/h.<br />
del 9% se la media è compresa tra 35 e 38 Km/h<br />
del 10% se la media è superiore ai 38 Km/h<br />
• per la categoria c) il tempo del vincitore è aumentato:<br />
dell’8% se la media è uguale o inferiore a Km. 30<br />
del 9% se la media è oltre Km. 30 e fi no a Km. 35<br />
del 10% se la media è oltre Km. 35<br />
• per la categoria d) il tempo del vincitore aumentato del 25%.<br />
Secondo l’art. 2.6.032 del regolamento uCi il Collegio dei Commissari,<br />
sentito il parere del Direttore di organizzazione, in considerazione di<br />
particolari condizioni atmosferiche, di altri eventi ritenuti eccezionali,<br />
di comprovati infortuni o incidenti può riammettere in gara concorrenti<br />
giunti fuori tempo massimo aumentando lo stesso fi no ad un massimo<br />
del 25% di quello stabilito dal presente articolo. il tempo massimo,<br />
calcolato sulla base del tempo del vincitore espresso al minuto secondo,<br />
deve essere successivamente calcolato al minuto primo superiore. Ai<br />
fi ni dell’applicazione del presente articolo, le tappe della 46ª Tirreno-<br />
Adriatico sono state così classifi cate:<br />
• categoria a: 2^ - 3^<br />
• categoria b: 6^<br />
• categoria c: 4^ - 5^<br />
• categoria d: 1^ - 7^<br />
ART. 12 - Tappe a cronometro<br />
A) Disposizioni Generali<br />
i corridori potranno usare biciclette defi nite nei parametri e nelle misure<br />
stabilite dai Regolamenti dell’u.C.i. Alla partenza i corridori saranno<br />
sostenuti da giudici incaricati dal Collegio dei Commissari. ogni corridore<br />
sarà seguito da una vettura che prenderà a bordo il personale con materiale<br />
di ricambio ed eventualmente il Commissario aggiunto. La vettura dovrà<br />
seguire il concorrente a non meno di 10 metri di distanza e non potrà mai<br />
affi ancarlo. Allorché un concorrente viene raggiunto da un altro concorrente<br />
dovrà spostarsi sul lato destro della strada e rimanervi fi no a che, chi ha<br />
effettuato il sorpasso, non abbia almeno 25 metri di vantaggio.<br />
B) Cronometro a Squadre<br />
Marina di Carrarra<br />
L’ordine di partenza della tappa a cronometro a squadre sarà determinato<br />
da un sorteggio che verrà effettuato martedì 7 <strong>marzo</strong>, durante la<br />
riunione tra la Direzione della corsa, il Collegio dei Commissari ed<br />
i Direttori Sportivi. Se tra i partenti della corsa ci dovesse essere il<br />
vincitore dell’ultima edizione, la squadra di appartenenza prenderà<br />
il via per ultima. Le partenze saranno date con intervalli uguali di 3<br />
minuti primi l’una dall’altra. i tempi della squadra saranno presi sul 5°<br />
corridore arrivato; gli altri componenti saranno accreditati del tempo<br />
registrato al loro passaggio sulla linea di arrivo. in caso di incidente<br />
nell’ultimo chilometro si applica l’art. 2.6.028 del regolamento u.C.i.<br />
C) Cronometro individuale<br />
San Benedetto del Tronto<br />
L’ordine di partenza della tappa a cronometro individuale sarà<br />
determinato dalla posizione occupata dal concorrente in classifi ca<br />
generale al termine della tappa precedente, in modo che l’ultimo in<br />
classifi ca partirà per primo, il penultimo per secondo e così via fi no al<br />
primo in classifi ca che partirà per ultimo. Nel caso due o più corridori<br />
della stessa squadra si trovassero in ordine consecutivo di partenza,<br />
il collegio dei Commissari potrà variare l’ordine stesso intercalando<br />
i concorrenti di altre squadre che immediatamente li precedono o li<br />
seguono in classifi ca generale. Le partenze saranno date con intervalli<br />
uguali compresi tra 1’ e 3’. il Direttore della corsa, d’accordo con il<br />
Presidente del Collegio dei Commissari, ha facoltà di adottare intervalli<br />
differenziati per gli ultimi <strong>15</strong> partenti.<br />

del regolamento uCi in caso di parità nella classifi ca generale individuale<br />
G.P.M., si applica il seguente criterio discriminante:<br />
• numero dei primi posti conseguiti nei G.P.M.<br />
• classifi ca generale individuale<br />
Per benefi ciare dei premi della classifi ca generale fi nale ogni concorrente<br />
dovrà aver portato a termine la gara.<br />
ART. 14 - Classifi ca Generale Individuale a tempi<br />
in applicazione agli art. 2.6.014 e 2.6.0<strong>15</strong> del regolamento uCi, la classifi ca<br />
generale individuale è stabilita dalla somma dei tempi registrati da ogni<br />
corridore per ciascuna tappa. Abbuoni ed eventuali penalità in tempo sono<br />
tenuti in conto per la medesima classifi ca.<br />

ART. 16 - MIGLIOR GIOVANE<br />
La classifi ca dei giovani è riservata ai corridori nati dopo il 1° gennaio<br />
1986. il primo corridore meglio piazzato all’interno della classifi ca generale<br />
individuale a tempi è il leader giornaliero dei giovani. Al termine dell’ultima<br />
tappa, egli è dichiarato vincitore della classifi ca dei giovani.<br />
ART. 17 - Classifi ca a squadre<br />
Secondo l’art. 2.06.016 del regolamento uCi, la classifi ca a squadre<br />
si effettua per addizione dei tre migliori tempi di ciascuna squadra,<br />
ad eccezione della cronometro a squadre per la quale si sommerà<br />
direttamente il tempo registrato da ogni rispettiva squadra, da tale<br />
computo sono incluse eventuali penalizzazioni in tempo.<br />
in caso di parità saranno classifi cate dalla somma dei piazzamenti ottenuti<br />
dai primi tre loro corridori durante la tappa, in caso di ulteriore parità le<br />
squadre sono classifi cate dal piazzamento del loro migliore corridore<br />
nell’ordine di arrivo. La classifi ca generale a squadre si stabilisce mediante<br />
la somma dei tre migliori tempi individuali di ogni squadra in tutte le tappe<br />
disputate. in caso d’ex aequo si applica il seguente criterio discriminante:<br />
• numero dei primi posti nella classifi ca giornaliera a squadre;<br />
• numero dei secondi posti nella classifi ca giornaliera a squadre;<br />
• e così di seguito.<br />
in caso di ulteriore parità le squadre sono classifi cate seguendo il piazzamento<br />
del loro migliore corridore nella classifi ca generale individuale. ogni squadra<br />
ridotta a meno di tre corridori è eliminata dalla classifi ca generale a squadre.<br />
ART. 18 - Abbuoni<br />
Gli abbuoni validi per la classifi ca generale individuale sono previsti in tutte<br />
le tappe, ad esclusione delle tappe a cronometro (squadre e individuale), e<br />
nei traguardi speciali. Gli abbuoni sono così articolati:<br />
• a ogni traguardo speciale sono attribuiti rispettivamente 3’’, 2’’ e 1’’ ai<br />
primi tre classifi cati.<br />
• ad ogni arrivo di tappa sono attribuiti rispettivamente 10’’, 6’’ e 4’’ ai<br />
primi tre classifi cati.<br />
ART. 19 - Premi regolamentari e speciali<br />
La 46a Tirreno-Adriatico attribuisce i seguenti premi regolamentari e speciali:

ART. 20 - Controllo medico<br />
il controllo medico per ogni tappa sarà effettuato presso il Camper Mobile<br />
situato all’arrivo, secondo il regolamento antidoping dell’uCi.<br />
ART. 21 - Protocollo<br />
Dovranno presentarsi al cerimoniale dopo l’arrivo di ogni tappa, il vincitore<br />
di tappa, il primo della classifi ca generale che indosserà la maglia azzurra,<br />
il primo della classifi ca a punti che indosserà la maglia rossa. il leader del<br />
Gran Premio della Montagna che indosserà la maglia verde e il.primo della<br />
classifi ca del Miglior Giovane che indosserà la maglia bianca.<br />
inoltre il vincitore di tappa e il leader della classifi ca generale dovranno<br />
partecipare alla conferenza stampa per i giornalisti accreditati.<br />
ART. 22 - Sanzioni<br />
Le infrazioni sono sanzionate secondo la “tabella sanzioni”, art. 12.1.040<br />
del regolamento uCi.<br />
ART. 23 - Disposizioni generali<br />
Possono seguire la corsa solo le persone denunciate all’atto del ritiro dei<br />
contrassegni dal titolare del rispettivo automezzo. Eventuali modifi che<br />
o aggiunte devono essere notifi cate al Direttore dell’organizzazione.<br />
i conducenti delle auto e delle moto accreditate devono rispettare<br />
le norme del Codice della Strada e devono altresì sottostare alle<br />
disposizioni del Direttore dell’organizzazione e dei suoi collaboratori.<br />
Non possono seguire la corsa persone che non vi abbiano funzioni<br />
riconosciute dagli organizzatori e inerenti ai vari servizi, né persone<br />
di minore età. Nessuna responsabilità di nessuna natura fa capo<br />
all’Ente organizzatore per i danni derivati da incidenti prima, durante<br />
e dopo la corsa a spettatori e persone in genere, anche se estranee<br />
alla manifestazione stessa, in dipendenza di azioni non messe in atto<br />
dall’organizzazione medesima.<br />
Per quanto non contemplato nel presente regolamento valgono i<br />
regolamenti uCi. e FCi.<br />

ART. 1 - Organisation<br />

the 46th TiRRENo - ADRiATiCo, international cycling race by stages, recorded at the uCi international calendar according to the uCi regulations.<br />
The race is due to depart from Marina di Carrara on Wednesday, March 9, <strong>2011</strong> and to end on March <strong>15</strong>, in S. Benedetto del Tronto, and will follow<br />
the hereunder mentioned route program.<br />

Article 2 - Type of race<br />
The race is reserved to cyclists belonging to the Men Elite category<br />
and is recorded in the uCi calendar into the historical race class, and in<br />
compliance with the regulation in force, the points attributed for the place<br />
list are the following:<br />
GENERAL PLACE LiST<br />
To the 10 fi rst riders in the fi nal general place list, respectively points: 100,<br />
80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 4<br />
PLACE LiST BY STAGE<br />
To the 5 fi rst riders in the place list of each stage, respectively points: 6,<br />
4, 2, 1, 1<br />
Article 3 - Participation<br />
in compliance with the provisions or article 2.1.005 of the uCi Regulations,<br />
the race is reserved to the uCi Pro Teams and all Professional Continental<br />
Teams. According to article 2.2.003 of the uCi Regulations the maximum<br />
number of riders per team shall be set in between 8 (eight) and 5 (fi ve).<br />
in any case, the organizing Society, to the purpose of safeguarding the<br />
image and reputability of its race, reserves the right to refuse, up to the<br />
departing time, the riders or the Sporting Groups which by their acts or<br />
declarations would prove to neglect the principle of sport fair play and<br />
the commitments undertaken and set forth in paragraph 1.1.023 of the<br />
uCi Regulations. Moreover, in the event the racers or the Sporting Group<br />
would fail, during the race, in complying with the principles set out in the<br />
foregoing paragraph, the organizing Society shall also reserve the right to<br />
exclude them form the race at any time.<br />
Article 4 - Race Headquarters<br />
The offi cial accreditations and preliminary operations will take place in<br />
Marina di Carrara on the premises of the Port Authority, in Viale Cristoforo<br />
Colombo, 6, on Tuesday March 8, <strong>2011</strong>, from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. The<br />
confi rmation of the departing racers and the collection of the numbers by<br />
the persons in charge for each team, is scheduled on Tuesday, March 8,<br />
from 3.00 to 4.45 pm, at the Race headquarters.<br />
on that same day, at 5 o’clock, at the Race headquarters is due to take<br />
place the meeting of the organization Management together with the<br />
Jury Commissaries and Sporting Managers, organized according to the<br />
provisions of article 1.2.087 of the uCi Regulations.<br />
Article 5 - Radio Information<br />
Race news are broadcasted on the 149,800 Mhz frequency.<br />

Article 6 - Technical Assistance<br />
The technical assistance service is ensured by the ViTToRiA Company<br />
with 3 servicing vehicles.<br />
Article 7 - Food supply<br />
Food supplies take place in compliance with the provisions of articles<br />
2.3.025 / 26 / 27 of the uCi Regulations..<br />
The fi xed food supply stations of each stage are announced with the letter<br />
R in the respective planimetrical and kilometrical charts, and advertised by<br />
relevant road signs along the race route.<br />
Article 8 - Level crossings<br />
Level crossings are mentioned on the kilometrical charts and advertised<br />
along the race route by relevant road signs indicating PL 1 km far.<br />
in the case of closed level crossings, articles 2.3.034 and 2.3.035 of the uCi<br />
Regulations shall apply.<br />
Article 9 - Incidents during the race last 3 kilometers<br />
The article 2.6.027 of the uCi Regulations, incidents during the last three<br />
kilometers of the race, doesn’t apply to the following stages featuring an<br />
uphill fi nish, i.e: 4th stage, Narni - Chieti, 6th stage ussita - Macerata.<br />
Article 10 - Timing<br />
The offi cial time is recorded by the fi nish-line judge.<br />
A transponder, to be mounted on a mandatory basis to the frame of the<br />
bicycle, will be supplied to all racers for automatic time reading.<br />
Article 11 - Time limit<br />
in order to determine the maximum time duration allowed for each stage,
these have been divided into four categories according to the different<br />
nature of the route, i.e.<br />
• a) category: stages presenting no particular diffi culty<br />
• b) category: stages presenting slight diffi culties<br />
• c) category: stages presenting important diffi culties<br />
• d) category: team and individual time trial’ stages<br />
Consequently the time limit has been set out as follows:<br />
• for the a) category, the winner’s time is increased by:<br />
7% if the average speed is equal or inferior to 40 Km/h.<br />
‘8% if the average speed is included between 40 and 45 Km/h<br />
10% if the average speed is superior to 45 Km/h<br />
• for the b) category, the winner’s time is increased by:<br />
‘8% if the average speed is equal or inferior to 35 Km/h.<br />
9% of the average speed is included between 35 and 38 Km/h<br />
10% if the average speed is superior to 38 Km/h<br />
• for the c) category, the winner’s time is increased by:<br />
8% if the average speed is equal or inferior to Km. 30<br />
9% if the average speed is superior to Km. 30 and up to Km. 35<br />
10% if the average speed is superior to Km. 35<br />
- for the d) category, the winner’s time is increased by 25%.<br />
According to article 2.6.032 of the uCi Regulations, the Panel of<br />
Commissaries, after having sought the advice of the organization’s<br />
Manager, in consideration of special atmospheric conditions, of possible<br />
other exceptional circumstances, of confi rmed accidents or incidents,<br />
shall be able to readmit in the race competitors arrived out of time limit,<br />
by increasing the same up to a maximum of 25% of the time set forth<br />
by the present article. The time limit, established on the basis of the<br />
winner’s time expressed in minute seconds, shall be further on rounded<br />
off to the successive superior minute.in order to enforce the provisions of<br />
the present article, the stages of the 46th Tirreno - Adriatico, have been<br />
classifi ed as follows:<br />
• a) category: 2nd - 3rd<br />
• b) category: 6th<br />
• c) category: 4th - 5th<br />
• d) category: 1st - 7th<br />
Article 12 - Time Trial’s Stages<br />
A) Overall instructions<br />
The riders shall use bicycles complying with the parameters and measures<br />
set up by the Regulations issued by the u.C.i.<br />
on the starting line the riders will be sustained by Jury members duly<br />
appointed by the College of Commissaries.<br />
Each competitor will be escorted by a vehicle having on board staff<br />
members supplied with spare parts and, should the case arise, the<br />
assistant Commissary. The vehicle will follow the rider at a distance not<br />
to be inferior to 10 meters, and shall in no case draw up alongside that<br />
same rider. When a competitor catch up with another rider, the latter is<br />
requested to move on the right side of the road and to keep such position<br />
until the rider who effected the overtaking has taken the lead with at least<br />
25 meters.<br />
B) Teams’ Time Trial<br />
Marina di Carrarra<br />
The starting order of the team’s time trial stage, will be chosen by lot to<br />
be drawn on Tuesday, March 7, in the course of the meeting to be held<br />
between the Race Management, the College of Jury and the Sporting<br />
Managers. in the case the winner of the last edition should be among the<br />
participants, his team will be the last to line up on the starting line.<br />
Starts will be given at equal intervals of 3 minutes one from the other.<br />
The timing of the team will be measured on the 5th rider arrived; the other<br />
team’s member will be credited of the time recorded at their crossing of<br />
the fi nish line, in case of accident during the last kilometer, article 2.6.028<br />
of the u.C.i. Regulations should apply.<br />
C) Individual time trial<br />
San Benedetto del Tronto<br />
The starting order of the individual time trial stage, will be determined<br />
by the competitor’s placement in the overall standing at the end of the<br />
precedent stage, in such way that the last in the standing will be the<br />
fi rst to start and the second last, will be the second to start, and so on<br />
up to the fi rst in the standing who will be the last one to leave.<br />
in the case that two or more riders belonging to the same team should<br />
result in consecutive starting order, the College of Jury could change<br />
the order by inserting the competitors from other teams who precede or<br />
follow them in the overall standing. Starts will be given at equal intervals<br />
of 1’ to 3’. The Race Manager, by common consent with the President of<br />
the College of the Jury, is empowered to adopt differentiated intervals<br />
as far as the <strong>15</strong> last riders to start are concerned.<br />
Article 13 - general climber’s classifi cation<br />
A place list of the general climber’s classifi cation has been set out for the<br />
sixteen uphill climbs (single category).<br />

The general place list is made out by the sum of the gained points; the leader<br />
of the G.P.M. placement shall wear the green jersey. According to article<br />
2.6.017 of the uCi Regulations, in the case of ex aequo in the G.P.M. general<br />
individual place list, the following discriminating factor should apply:<br />
• Number of fi rst places gain in the G.P.M.<br />
• General individual place list<br />
Each rider will have to bring to an end the totality of the race, to be able to<br />
benefi t of the prizes resulting from the fi nal general place list.<br />
Article 14 - General individual place list by the time<br />
in compliance with the provisions set forth by articles 2.6.014 and<br />
2.6.0<strong>15</strong> of the uCi Regulations, the general individual place list is made<br />
out by the sum of the time recorded by each competitor for each stage.<br />
Bonuses and possible penalties of time are taken into account in the<br />
computation of the same place list.<br />
Article <strong>15</strong> - General individual place list by the points<br />
The place list by the points is made out by the sum of the points gained in<br />
each of the six stages exception being made for the teams’ time trial and<br />
in the Bonus Sprints.<br />

Each rider will have to perform the entire race in order to be able to benefi t<br />
of the prizes of the fi nal general place list.<br />
Article 16 - Best Junior<br />
The junior place list applies to Junior riders born after January 1st, 1986. The<br />
fi rst rider with the best placement in the general individual place list by the<br />
time, shall be considered the daily leader of the Juniors. upon the conclusion<br />
of the last stage, he will be declared winner of the Junior place list.<br />
Article 17 - Place list by teams<br />
According to article 2.06.016 of the uCi Regulations, the standing by<br />
teams is determined by the sum of the three best timings for each team,<br />
with the exception of the team’s time trial, for which the recorded time<br />
for each respective team is due to be summed. Such calculation includes<br />
possible penalizations in the form of time. in case of ex aequo the teams<br />
shall be classifi ed according to the sum of the places obtained for the<br />
stage by their fi rst three racers; in case of further equality, the teams will<br />
be classifi ed according to the placement of their best racers in the fi nish<br />
ranking. The general place list by teams is determined by the sum of the<br />
three best individual times of each team, in all the performed stages.<br />
in case of ex aequo, the following discriminating factor applies:<br />
• Number of fi rst places in the daily place list by teams;<br />

in case of further parity, the teams shall be classifi ed according to the<br />
placement of their best rider in the general individual place list.<br />
Each team whose number would be reduced to less than three riders, shall<br />
be cancelled from the general place list by teams.<br />
Article 18 - Time allowance<br />
Tine allowances valid for the general individual place list have been taken<br />
into consideration for all stages, exception being made for the time trial<br />
stages (both individual and by teams) and the special passage lines.<br />
Time allowances are attributed as follows:<br />
• for each special passage line, the fi rst three of the place list are<br />
respectively assigned 3’’, 2’’ and 1’’
• for each stage fi nish, the fi rst three of the place list are respectively<br />
assigned 10’’, 6’’ and 4’’<br />
Article 19 - Prescribed and special prizes<br />
As far as the 46th Tirreno - Adriatico is concerned, the following prescribed<br />
and special prizes shall be awarded:<br />
Euro 10.000,00 for each of the seven stages (for a total amount of €<br />
70.000,00), split as follows:<br />

The above mentioned charts refer to the value that the organization makes<br />
available to the A.C.C.P.i. for the distribution to the associate and/or to the<br />
delegating parties.<br />
Article 20 - Antidoping control<br />
For each stage the Antidoping control will take place upon fi nish, at the<br />
Mobile Clinic, according to the uCi anti doping regulations.<br />
Article 21 - Awards ceremony<br />
upon the fi nish of each stage, the winner of the stage, the fi rst racer in the<br />
general place list wearing the blue jersey, the fi rst racer in the place list<br />
by the points wearing the red jersey, the leader of the general climber’s<br />
classifi cation wearing the green jersey, and the fi rst rider in the place list<br />
of the Best Junior wearing the white jersey, are due to attend the award<br />
ceremony. Moreover, the stage’s winner and the leader of the general place<br />
list shall take part to the press conference with the accredited journalists.<br />
Article 22 - Sanctions<br />
Applying sanctions are those set forth in the “Sanctions Chart” according<br />
to article 12.1.040 of the uCi Regulations.<br />
Article 23 - General provisions<br />
only persons identifi ed upon collection of the identifi cation sign by the<br />
owner of the relevant motor vehicle, are entitled to follow the race.<br />
Possible changes or additions shall be notifi ed to the organization<br />
Manager. Drivers of duly identifi ed cars and motorbikes shall comply<br />
with the provisions set forth by the Rules of the Road and shall<br />
furthermore comply with the rules set out by the organization Manager<br />
and his collaborators. Persons who are not recognized as having roles<br />
acknowledged by the organizers and services-related functions as<br />
well as under-age persons, are not allowed to follow the race. The<br />
organization shall not be liable in any way whatsoever for damages<br />
deriving from accidents occurred prior, during or after the race and<br />
deriving from actions not ascribable to the same organization, to<br />
persons in general, even if unrelated with the race. For all that is not<br />
regulated under this ruling the uCi and FCi regulations shall apply.<br />
