Cinema professionals for a guide to Nanni Loy
Nanni Loy muore nell’agosto del 1995 mentre lavora al suo
primo film “sardo”, tratto dal romanzo Procedura di Salvatore
Mannuzzu. Il regista cagliaritano è stato, oltre che regista cinematografico,
autore di televisione, attore, uomo di cultura impegnato
in campo politico e sindacale. Lo ricordiamo in queste
pagine attraverso le testimonianze dei suoi più stretti collaboratori:
sceneggiatori, attori, montatori che raccontando il loro
mestiere ricostruiscono un periodo importante del cinema italiano
e, soprattutto, restituiscono la profonda umanità di un personaggio
significativo del cinema italiano e non solo.

“Solo per la prima serie (Specchio segreto n.d.r.) inventammo
più di duecento sketch: poi selezionavamo, facevamo dei provini
che dimostravano come alcuni fossero sbagliati o inefficaci. (…)
Prendiamo lo sketch più famoso, quello della zuppetta, la
brioche intinta nel cappuccino. Questo episodio ha una storia
curiosa: avevamo già deciso di abbandonarlo perché a Roma i
risultati erano fallimentari, anzi brutali. Nanni era stato subito
preso per un matto e quindi rifiutato e a volte offeso. (…)
Avevamo già deciso di abbandonare la provocazione, quando la
troupe che girava l’Italia si spostò a Bologna e si fece un ultimo

Nanni Loy died in August 1995 while he was working on his
first Sardinian movie, based on Salvatore Mannuzzu’s novel entitled
Procedura. This Sardinian director had had a checkered
career: television author, actor, involved in politics and the Trade
Unions, as well as being a motion-picture director.
We remember him in these pages through the testimony of his
close collaborators: screenwriters, actors and assistant editors,
reminiscing about their jobs, bringing back to life a very important
period of the Italian cinema but above all paying homage
to the deep humanity of an important figure in both the Italian
and international cinema.

then we made our choice, held screen tests which showed that
some were inappropriate or not striking. (…) Take the example
