Poco più che adolescente, Rémi sogna di diventare poeta e incantare il mondo con versi indimenticabili. In cerca
di ispirazione sotto il sole della città di Sète, armato solo di penna e taccuino, Rémi è pronto per mettersi a
scrivere... Ma da dove cominciare? Guardando il mare? Salendo sulla cima di una montagna? Ascoltando il
canto degli uccelli? Trovando la propria Musa? Nei bar? Al cimitero? In acqua? E se tutto questo non funziona,
allora non resta che bere, bere e ancora bere, finché non scatta la scintilla.
Damien Manivel (Francia, 1981) esordisce come ballerino per poi studiare cinema presso Le Fresnoy – Studio
national des arts contemporains. Gira diversi cortometraggi, tra cui Viril (2007), Soit sage ô ma douleur (2008),
La Dame au chien (2011, vincitore del Prix Jean Vigo) e Un dimanche matin (2012), che si aggiudica il Prix Découverte
alla Semaine de la Critique del Festival di Cannes. Un jeune poète, menzione speciale al Festival di Locarno
nella sezione competitiva Cineasti del presente, è il suo primo lungometraggio.
Still in his late teens, Rémi dreams of becoming a poet and dazzling the world with unforgettable verses. In
search of inspiration under the sun in the city of Sète, and armed with only with a notebook and pen, Rémi is
ready to write… But where to start? By staring at the sea? Climbing to a mountaintop? Listening to the birds
sing? Finding his own muse? In bars? At the cemetery? In the water? And if none of that works, all that’s left is
to drink, drink and drink some more, until inspiration strikes.
Damien Manivel (France, 1981) was a ballet dancer before studying cinema at the Le Fresnoy (National Studio
for Contemporary Arts). His short films include Viril (2007), Soit sage ô ma douleur (2008), The Lady with the
Dog (2011, Jean Vigo Prize winner) and A Sunday Morning (2012), which won the Discovery Prize in Cannes
Critics’ Week. His debut feature A Young Poet received a Special Mention at the Locarno Film Festival in the
Filmmakers of the Present competition sidebar.

La trentenne Nahâl è incinta di quattro mesi quando, durante un controllo, le viene detto che il feto è morto
e dev’essere praticato un aborto entro due giorni. Questo fatto la condurrà a ribellarsi contro la famiglia e gli
amici... “Quando le circostanze rendono estremamente limitata la possibilità di compiere azioni sociali significative,
è la vita privata che deve diventare luogo d’azione”.
Hamed Rajabi (Hamadan, Iran, 1982) ha studiato cinema all’università di Tehran e ha preso parte al Berlinale
Talent Campus. Ha girato diversi cortometraggi, documentari e di finzione, ed è stato il co-sceneggiatore per
due film di Majid Barzegar, Rainy Seasons (2010) e Parviz (2012), selezionati in numerosi festival internazionali
da San Sebastian a Rotterdam. A Minor Leap Down, presentato alla Berlinale 2015 nella sezione Panorama,
è il suo lungometraggio d’esordio.
Nahâl is in her 30s and four months pregnant when her doctor tells her that the fetus is dead and that she must
have an abortion within two days. The events that ensue will lead her to rebel against her family and friends.
“Under conditions where meaningful social action has become extremely limited, it is everyday life that must
become a place of action.”
Hamed Rajabi (Hamadan, Iran, 1982) studied cinema at the University of Tehran and participated in a Berlinale
Talent Campus. He has made diverse short, documentary and narrative films and was co-screenwriter on Majid
Barzegar’s Rainy Seasons (2010) and Parviz (2012), selected in numerous international festivals, including San
Sebastian and Rotterdam. Presented at the 2015 Berlinale in the Panorama sidebar, A Minor Leap Down is his
feature debut.
