20 1 CONFERENCE
on Coastal
Engin ering Practice
Engin ering Sustainable
Coastal Development
August 21-24, 2011
San Diego, California
T
he 2011 Conference on
Coastal Engineering
Practice will focus on practical
approaches in developing
solutions for coastal engineering
problems as well as ensuring
sustainable coastal development.
An additional goal is to promote
the exchange of experiences
between practicing coastal
engineers. Emphasis will be
placed on practical experience
and actual projects rather than
specific technical and scientific
aspects of coastal engineering.
Papers and presentations will
highlight case histories of
technology applied in planning,
design, permitting, and
engineering methodologies, as
well as the realities of coastal
construction, maintenance, and
operations.
Prospective authors are cordially
invited to submit an abstract to the
Coastal Engineering Practice
Technical Subcommittee by
November 16, 2010. You can
submit an abstract or view the
Call for Papers here:
http://content.asce.org/conference
s/copricoastal2011/call.html
The Technical Subcommittee is
now accepting abstracts on the
following themes:
 Case Histories of Coastal
Projects
 Sustainable Coastal
Development
 Erosion and Shoreline
Protection
 Coastal Environment, Water
Quality and Wetlands
Restoration
 Coastal Hazards and Risk
Management
 Coastal Sediment Processes
 Ports, Harbors, and Marine
Transportation
 Local, State and Federal
involvement in Planning,
Design and Construction of
Coastal Projects
Review Process
We encourage a description of
preliminary or final results in the
abstract to demonstrate status of
work. Abstracts should follow a
logical development with
introduction and motivation
(short), procedure, and example
results. Notification of acceptance
or decline will be emailed to the
corresponding author by January
12, 2011. Final papers are due to
the Technical committee by May
4, 2011.
C
oastal zones around the
world are vital to recreation,
travel, tourism and wildlife
but also play an increasingly
important role in energy capture,
international trade, habitation
and the economy. The coast
provides engineers and scientists
not only with numerous
opportunities for development, but
