L’area della foce, racchiusa in una superficie di1256 ettari, con le sue dune costiere e le lagune interdunalirappresenta una fotografia dell’ambiente costiero primadell’intervento dell’uomo. A Ovest della foce del Bevano sisviluppa l’area dell’Ortazzino costituita da meandri fossili delfiume stesso, antiche dune costiere e prati umidi con faldaaffiorante. Adiacente ai prati umidi dell’Ortazzino si sviluppala zona umida dell’Ortazzo, antica valle d’acqua dolcericavata da vecchie risaie, che oggi vede però intrusionidi acqua salata. On the westof the mouth is an area called Bevano dell’Ortazzinoconsiststing of fossil meanders of the river, wet meadowsand ancient coastal dunes with groundwater outcropping.Wet meadows adjacent to this area, wetlands deriving fromold rice fields, and fish farms today see the intrusion of saltwater. The variety and complexity of the environments makesthis site rich in biodiversity, flora and fauna.Ortazzo and Ortazzino area has a large community ofNelle aree dell’Ortazzo e dell’Ortazzino si è insediata unagrande comunità di Caradriformi nidificanti, come Gabbianoroseo e Gabbiano comune e si osserva una forte presenza diLimicoli come Cavaliere d’Italia, Avocetta, Fratino e Pettegola.Notevole la presenza di Anatidi, quali la Volpoca, attualmentein fase di espansione; occasionalmente nidificanti Marzaiolae Alzavola. Per quanto riguarda invece l’ambiente costiero,la fauna risente della forte presenza antropica, l’unica speciepresente in numero abbastanza rilevante è il Fratino.Per quanto riguarda i Passeriformi è da segnalare la presenzadel Calandro, una specie in forte regressione numericanidificante sulle dune dell’Ortazzino.La Foce del Bevano, l’Ortazzino e l’Ortazzo sono facilmenteraggiungibili anche in macchina attraverso due ingressi dallastatale Adriatica. As for the coastalenvironment, affected strongly by human presence, the onlyspecies visible in fairly large numbers is the Kentish Plover.As for the Passeriformes we must report the presence ofTawny Pipit, a species breeding in very low numbers on thedunes of Ortazzino.The Mouth of Bevano, the Ortazzino and Ortazzo are easy toreachd by car from the S.S. 16 Adriatica.
