Clients need their homes to do more than ever before. Almost overnight, the home now needs to operate as a workplace, gym and entertainment venue, all while still fulfilling the basic requisites you would ordinarily expect from your interiors. To allow this, clear and effective space designation is now a key focus in interiors. Outdoor spaces have also become a focus, as going out is now more likely to involve your garden and some home entertaining than anything else. Your design team is one of the best-kept secrets at Harrods – how many projects do you work on each year? We offer four different services: interior design; interior architecture; furniture planning and interior styling. Large-scale projects, where we completely renovate or design a property from scratch involving interior design and architecture, is a more involved process and we typically average five a year. Other projects tend to be a lot quicker, and we have anywhere from 20 to 50 of these. How are you and the team able to approach so many different styles and projects? Our clients expect something truly bespoke, and we go out of our way to achieve this in our designs. We use referencing as a design tool and combine the history and context of the building and location with the client’s needs, taste and interests. Our designers all have different backgrounds and expertise, tastes and experience, and we’re also uniquely situated as an interior-design studio because we have an enviable selection of brands and expertise available at our fingertips within Harrods. Speaking of the store, Harrods has recently centralised the interiors offerings to a beautiful space on the third floor. What’s the highlight for you? Aside from our Studio space, definitely The Fabric Library. Home services are at the heart of this new floor. The Fabric Library is a great embodiment of this commitment to bespoke services, displaying the world’s finest fabrics. Clients are free to browse this area and engage in its full upholstery installation service. harrods.com CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM 41
