HMA & Solid

HMA & Solid Hardwood Promotion Spotlighting American Hardwoods Summer may be winding down for some, but for the American Hardwood Information Center, it’s full steam ahead and a “red-hot” promotion spotlight on several exciting projects. First off, the ever popular American Hardwoods Sustainable Solutions wood sample kit has gone “mobile.” Yes, there’s an “app” for almost anything these days, even American Hardwoods. Gone are the days of trying to fit that precious 7x3x6 inch box into an already cramped attaché. Our intensely popular, but somewhat bulky, wood sample kit has been transformed into software that can run on a Smartphone or mobile device such as the Android, iPhone, BlackBerry or iPad, extending the reach of our American Hardwood information far and wide. Architects, designers and builders, while out of the office meeting with a client who might be having difficulty envisioning how magnificent that Walnut flooring will actually be, will have our species guide literally at-their-fingertips. And Jane and John Q Public, as they shop for their “dream kitchen” make-over, can confidently show the “bigbox store” salesperson the American Cherry they must have for their new cabinets. Technology is exciting and grand indeed, but over the years we’ve learned that some things are worth repeating, too. So, how about a road trip to Washington, D.C., September 21-October 2, and a tour of the 2011 Solar Decathlon? The American Hardwood Information Center is once again involved in the biennial, U.S. Department of Energy sponsored competition, challenging university students to build twenty energy-efficient solar-powered homes. And in conjunction with Holt and Bugbee, Mullican Flooring, and Shamrock Plank Flooring, we’re working with Team New York, Purdue University and Florida International University by providing Hardwoods for their innovative and inspired creations. The homes must: • be affordable, attractive, and easy to live in • maintain comfortable and healthy indoor environmental conditions • supply energy to household appliances for cooking, cleaning, and entertainment by LINDA JOVANOVICH Executive Vice President Hardwood Manufacturers Association Pittsburgh, Pa. 412-244-0440 www.HardwoodInfo.com • provide adequate hot water • produce as much or more energy than they consume Open to the public and free of charge, the event typically draws hundreds of thousands of visitors, from all walks of life. We hope you’ll be there to see our American Hardwoods on this international stage. Visit www.solardecathlon.gov for more on the event. And finally, the American Hardwood Information Center has again partnered with Cutter Productions, their popular do-it-yourself expert, designer Vicki Payne, and her series For Your Home. This time in the half-hour make-over segment entitled, “From the Floor Up,” Hardwood replaces carpeting in the family room, stairs and home office. The viewing audience is extreme and the show begins airing in syndication September 8 and will run through 2012. It’s also licensed to public television through 2014. Please check your local listing and be sure to tune in. It puts American Hardwoods in a great light.
