Tours Highlight HMA Northeast Meeting BY TERRY MILLER Syracuse, N.Y.– About 100 members and guests gathered at the Embassy Suites here for the Hardwood Manufacturers Association (HMA) Northeast Regional Meeting, which included tours of four facilities. Not only did the gathering grant attendees an opportunity to view various facilities, but Jeff Meyer, Baillie Lumber Co., Hamburg, N.Y.; Linda Jovanovich, Hardwood Manufacturers Association, Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Pem Jenkins, Turn Bull Lumber Co., Elizabethtown, N.C. also allowed time for networking and sharing of industry information. For the first time at a Northeast Regional meeting, an open forum was held for attendees. This afforded an opportunity for all to introduce themselves and talk about some of the issues or market conditions owners and attendees are experiencing. A mill owner in Indiana, who also owns a flooring plant and concentration yard, said that weather conditions have been problematic for him in regard to local timber procurement.
