to be judged. Awards were made for Best of Show, Best Lighting, Best Furniture, Best Design for Production. Best of Show winner Brandon Schleiger designed Flavor Profiler made from Oregon White Oak. Aiden Head won Best Lighting for his Slatted Wall Lamp made from western Black Walnut. Best Furniture was Claudia Anderson’s Depoe Bridge Coffee Table, designed from the Depoe Bay, OR, bridge that spans the mouth of Depoe Bay, and is listed on the National Register for Historic Places. Best Design for Production went to Kebin Kang for his Just Bier beer sampler made with layers of Oregon White Oak veneer. This collaborative effort will allow them to network, share ideas and challenges, plus provide the opportunity to learn about the workings of Washington, and the importance of being front and center with federal representatives. I’ve seen firsthand how one-on-one interaction with key members of Congress gives our Hardwood message greater importance. To that end, HMA Officers plan to be in Washington for the event, as do many of our NextGen Leaders Council members. I hope that you will join up with us there. OCTOBER IN STATE COLLEGE, PA If you’ve never been, Central Pennsylvania is beautiful in the fall – espe- cially in and around that special place known as “Happy Valley!” HMA members will be gathering there, October 17-18. And while Big Ten College football is not on the agenda for our 2018 Northeast Regional Meeting, high level Hardwood production facilities are. Tour locations, to date, include Northwest Hardwoods, Inc., Emporium Hardwoods, The Rossi Group, and Walker Lumber Co., Inc.
