MONTEZUMA, IN—Superior Hardwoods, based here, will be installing two McDonough horizontal resaw systems as well as a factory rebuilt McDonough 54-inch band headrig. This second headrig and carriage line, in addition to the two larger resaw systems, will substantially increase Superior’s production capacity. Virginia-Carolina Forest Products located in Lawrenceville, VA, will be receiving a new McDonough 6-foot linebar resaw system. The new resaw system will be equipped with a variable frequency drive and automatic feed speed control system that will optimize the feed rate of each cant based on the depth of cut. The system was sold by Diehl-Clayton in Gatesville, NC. McDonough Manufacturing supplies sawmill equipment, including band mills, resaws, edger systems, carriages, engineering and parts. CHARLOTTE, NC—Oak Valley Hardwoods, a subsidiary of Tides and Times Group USA Inc., recently committed to invest over the next five years more than .1 million, into a Robbinsville, NC, factory formerly operated by Stanley Furniture, according to a press release. Oak Valley Hardwoods received a performance-based grant of up to 6,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. Positions will include accounting, log traders, sales, operators, foresters and clerical. The company ships mostly Poplar Hardwoods, but other Hardwoods as well. State government officials projected the new company will bring 114 new jobs to a county with one of the state’s highest unemployment rates. Founded in 2004, Tides and Times Group USA employs more than 160 workers in locations including Rutherford, Haywood, Caldwell, McDowell and Polk counties in North Carolina. State officials projected the annual payroll for the new jobs will be .4 million. Its last domestic operation in the U.S., Stanley Furniture announced they would close the Robbinsville plant earlier this year.
