SUMMARY
In the early 1960's, Lithuanian-born
George Maciunas set up in New York
the FLUXUS movement, a platform
that brought together many likeminded
artists. This is a global art
trend, which is based on experiment,
play, active interaction with the audience,
blurring of distinction between
everyday life and art. FLUXUS takes
the shape of performances and happenings,
installations and art objects,
on avantgarde venues and off-stage.
George Maciunas (Jurgis Mačiūnas)
has been the founder and father of
this movement. His works are exhibited
in the world is most famous art
museums. He made Lithuania history
of world art. Therefore, it is important
to mention and popularise
this artist in Lithuania as often as
possible.
Based on the book by Tomas Sakalauskas,
“Looking at the fire” (“Žiūrėjimas
į ugnį” 2002), a conceptual
biographical magazine was created.
It is aimed to visualize the creative
work and the heavy fate of the maestro.
The magazine is a print publication
that consists of 10 double page
spreads, each of which describes a
major event and theme from the artist's
life.
For a larger audience outreach, a
website was created, with the magazine
and its video presentation
posted in it.
The resulting modern and exciting
magazine about the life of George
Maciunas is available both in print
and in electronic form.
