Faculty of Arts and Education of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences completed the year 2020 by

transferring the traditional International scientific-practical conference “Art, Design, Languages and

Education: Innovations in Theory and Practice” to the virtual space for the first time. One of the most

important goals was achieved at this event: to promote discussions and the sharing of good practice on the

use of the latest technologies and innovations in design, art, language and education studies and professional

activities.

The conference began with a plenary session chaired by Vaida Misevičiūtė, lecturer at the Centre of

Languages. During the session ,Giedrė Lečickienė, a representative of UAB Thinking Organisations

presented a report on the topic “Modern ways of developing thinking and learning to learn competencies are

easily understood and applied by the educator”, lecturer of Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts Dr

Stasys Mostauskis delved into the topic of reported reality and other pitfalls for critical thinking and Dr Dror

Abend-David, a lecturer at the University of Florida, looked into the translation practices of silent films.

After the plenary session, the conference moved to separate panels, where speakers from Lithuania, Latvia,

Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Finland, Spain, Cyprus and the USA shared best practices, opinions and ideas

by discussing about the synergy of the activities of lecturers and students (moderator – Jolanta Bareikienė,

Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education), challenges in language and translation studies (moderator –

Dr Rima Jasnauskaitė, lecturer at the Centre of Languages), impact of international projects on education

(moderator – Ieva Brazauskaitė-Zubavičienė, lecturer at the Centre of Languages), search for opportunities

for the improvement of pre-school and pre-primary education (moderator – Dr Sigita Saulėnienė, lecturer

at the Department of Education). The panels also sought answers to questions about the role of modern

interpretations of critical approach in fashion and image design (moderator – Laura Slavinskaitė, lecturer at

the Academy of Arts) and the importance of innovation and modelling creative thinking in the context of art

and design (moderator – Sandra Bernotaitė, lecturer at the Academy of Arts).

The 2020 International scientific-practical online conference “Art, Design, Languages and Education:

Innovations in Theory and Practice” was distinguished by the fact that it was accompanied not only by three

art exhibitions: Interdisciplinary Art Exhibition of Lecturers of the Academy of Arts “Balance in Art and

Time”, personal exhibition of photographer and lecturer of Photography study program Elijus Kniežauskas

“Trash Society” and personal exhibition of photographer and lecturer of the same study program “Unflooded

Venice”, but also a virtual tour was organized. It was a tour of the group exhibition of painters Gustas

Jagminas, Ina Budrytė, Sigita Maslauskaitė and Aistė Bugailiškytė “G I S A Painting” curated by Arvydas

Martinaitis, lecturer at the Academy of Arts, and sounded by Lukas Alsys, lecturer of Kaunas University of
