REALTY 1 IPG Tzaneen proved to be one of the top agencies in the
country. On the awards day, Realty 1 IPG Tzaneen won eight awards
of the 19 categories at their annual award ceremony. Pieter Human
received the awards for Top Country Agent - Turnover, Top

ation of the Act has advanced a great deal since
its introduction in June 2007.
If consumers cannot service their monthly
repayments on their credit agreements they
may now consult an accredited Debt Counsellor
to review and restructure their debts.
Accredited Debt Counsellors receive a certificate
from the National Credit Regulator after
successfully completing a course and passing
an examination.
When the consumer contacts the Debt
Counsellor, the Debt Counsellor will compare
the consumer's monthly income with his
monthly necessary expenses (groceries, transport,
rent etc).
The Debt Counsellor will then establish the
consumer's monthly commitments to all his
creditors and determine whether the consumer
is over-indebted.
If it is established that the consumer is
over-indebted, the Debt Counsellor, in conjunction
with the consumer, determines what
monthly repayments the consumer can afford
to pay to all his creditors.
The Debt Counsellor then makes a proposal
to all the creditors suggesting a reduction in
interest rates and the monthly installments.
Debt includes mortgage bonds, vehicle finance,
personal loans, micro loans, furniture
accounts, clothing accounts, credit cards etc.
Since June 2007 the Debt Review Process
has progressed to a stage where 116 727
consumers have applied for restructuring of
their debts.
The attitude of most credit providers has
changed considerably in favour of Debt Counselling.
The four major banks have all assured
the National Credit Regulator and consumers
their support to the Debt Counselling process.
Debt Counsellors are prohibited from collecting
and distributing payments to credit
providers once the consumer's debts have
been restructured.
The National Credit Regulator has appointed
five accredited Payment Distribution Agencies
to regulate monthly payments to creditors.
These Payment Distribution Agencies collect
repayments from the consumers and distribute
these moneys to the creditors according to the
Debt Review Proposals.
The amount distributed in September 2009
was in excess of R 107 million. T he Payment
Distribution Agencies have strict regulations to
which they have to comply.
