Masterplan en meer
Arent Tissingh is vanaf eind 2007 Teamleider
van de afdeling Engineering. Hij
vertelt over lopende en toekomstige
projecten en de gevolgen tot nu toe van
de kredietcrisis.
Arent: “Het Masterplan dat in 2007 werd
opgesteld, is een uitgebreid plan voor
uitbreiding en modernisering van Aluchemie.
Het houdt onder meer in dat er
meer ovens worden gebouwd, meer
rookgasreinigers en een uitbreiding van de
Massafabriek, om maar een paar voorbeelden
te noemen. In 2008 zijn de voorbereidingen
voor twee grote projecten
gestart.
Master plan and more
Arent Tissingh has been Team Leader of the
Engineering department since late 2007. Below,
he talks about current and future projects and
the consequences of the credit crisis so far.
Arent: “The Master Plan that was drawn up in
2007 is an extensive plan for the expansion and
modernisation of Aluchemie. Among other things,
it entails the construction of more furnaces,
more fume treatment plants and expansion of
the Paste Plant, to name but a few examples.
Preparations for two major projects commenced
in 2008.
• Het eerste project, Aluchemie
550.000 ton, omvat de bouw van een
nieuwe oven ter vervanging van onze
bestaande Oven 5 plus een uitbreiding
van de Massafabriek met een
extra, vierde lijn.
• Het tweede grote project is de bouw
van Rookgasreiniger 7.
Door de kredietcrisis, die eind 2008 begon,
hebben we het project Aluchemie
550.000 ton uitgesteld voor een nog
nader te bepalen periode en het project
Rookgasreiniger 7 met zes maanden.
Dit laatste overigens met toestemming
van DCMR.
• The first project, ‘Aluchemie 550,000 Tons’,
involves the construction of a new furnace to
replace our existing Furnace 5, plus expansion
of the Paste Plant with an additional fourth line.
• The second major project is the construction
of Fume Treatment Plant 7.
Because of the economic crisis, which started
in late 2008, the Aluchemie 550,000 Tons project
has been postponed until further notice, and the
Fume Treatment Plant 7 project by six months.
The latter has the approval of DCMR.
A range of major projects were also carried out
in 2008, such as the completion of the ‘Revision
and expansion of Furnace 4’ project, and the
new construction of Fume Treatment Plant 6.

Verder zijn in 2008 diverse grote projecten
uitgevoerd, zoals de afronding van project
“Revisie en uitbreiding van Oven 4” en de
nieuwbouw van Rookgasreiniger 6.
Hoewel Oven 4 officieel al eind 2007 is
opgestart, was deze oven in februari
2008 pas op volle snelheid. Deze oven is
nu geschikt gemaakt voor grotere anoden
voor onze klant Norsk Hydro Karmoy.
Tijdens het project is besloten dat Oven 4
met één kraan gaat opereren en dat de
zuidkraan, die in 2007 uit de oven is gehaald
voor aanvang van de revisiewerkzaamheden,
niet meer werd teruggeplaatst.
Although Furnace 4 officially became operational
in late 2007, it was not working at full capacity
until February 2008 and has now been adapted
to be able to make larger anodes for our customer
Norsk Hydro Karmoy. During the project it was
decided that Furnace 4 would continue to operate
with a single crane, and that the southern crane
(which was removed from the furnace in 2007
prior to commencement of revision) would not
be put back. The new crane beams that were
ordered for the southern crane of Furnace 4 as
part of the project will be used to replace the
45-year-old crane beams of the southern crane
in Furnace 2. This means that Furnace 2 will
also be ready for the future. A fact unknown to
many was that the Revision of Furnace 4 project
also involved work in Furnace 2. This was
because one of the project objectives was to
adapt Aluchemie to be able to produce the new,
larger Karmoy anodes.
Oven 4 in aanbouw
Per year, around 65,000 tons of these anodes
will be produced in the newly revised Furnace
4, and around 20,000 tons in Furnace 2.
Replacing the beams of the southern crane in
Furnace 2 is scheduled for week 20 in 2009, at
which time Fume Treatment Plant 6 will be
linked to Furnace 2. Only after that will the
Furnace 4 project be officially complete.
