Sean Greb joins ITF
When I first visited Utrecht I fell in love with the
picturesque canals, the beautiful Gothic buildings,
the quaint coble stone streets, and - of course - the
abundance of bikes. Now that I’m living here I feel
lucky to be a part of this beautiful city. In particular,
I appreciate the warm welcome I received from the
ITF community. Everyone has been helpful, patient,
and friendly despite my lack of fluency in Dutch and
my general ignorance. Thanks to this help, I’m now
settled and working as a postdoc in Renate Loll’s
group.
I spent my PhD working at the Perimeter Institute
in Canada (not far from where I grew up) thinking
about time and how shape degrees of freedom can
be used to understand gravity. Growing up in Canada,
I learned to play (ice) hockey, speak French,
and hike around the Canadian rockies (the picture
is of me standing near the site of the picture on our
old $20 bill).
Over the next two years or so, I hope
to continue my work on understanding
how gravity works and how to quantize
it while making use of all the talented,
knowledgeable, and independently minded
people at the institute. So, if you’re
ever in the neighborhood of room 313,
don’t hesitate to drop by and say ‘hi’. I’m
always eager to chat about life or physics.
