Walk or dance to Abba songs on the Old Town’s cobbled streets, follow in the footsteps of Millennium-writer Stieg Larsson,
climb a rooftop or join a safari and see your first elk in the wild. There are many walks on offer in Stockholm.
Are you an English-speaking
die-hard Abba-fan just
arrived in Stockholm and
longing to burst out in song
in the street in the company
of like-minded people?
Well, you’re in luck. Not
only does the Swedish capital
have a newly opened
Abba-museum, you can go
all-in with an Abba City
Walk. Sing-a-long is a guarantee
during the 1,5 hour
stroll around the city, says
Sara Claesson, Head of
Communications at Stockholm
City Museum, that organizes
this and several
other popular city walks.
“The Abba Walk is pure
fun. It makes you really
happy,” says Sara Claesson.
The tour also becomes a
trip back in history to the
group’s early golden days
and Sweden in the 70’s. The
two couples lived in Stockholm
then and got some
stick for not being political
enough.
“The Abba City Walk is
special of course because
it’s new and with the new
museum. But the Millennium
Walk is still very popular
and constantly fully
booked, which has been a
big surprise to us,“ says Sara
Claesson.
Crime writer Stieg
Larsson’s phenomenally popular
trilogy about Lisbeth
Salander and Mikael Blomkvist
gave the inspiration
for a Millennium Tour as
soon as the first book became
an international best
seller.
”In 2008 we held five
walks during the whole
year, now it has grown to
150,” says Sara Claesson.
With the publication
of every new book
and launch of movie
the content of the tour
has changed and now
includes behind the
scenes anecdotes
from the movie sets,
some key props as well
as all the important sites
in Södermalm.
“The museum has
bought the Millennium
sign and the leather jacket
Noomi Rapace wears in the
Swedish movies”, says Sara
Claesson.
