Abstract<br />
Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation has long been used for water disinfection of<br />
microorganisms i.e. bacteria, viruses and fungi. Recently, there has been a surge<br />
of products using UVGI for disinfecting objects. The purpose of this bachelor<br />
project has been to evaluate the use of ultraviolet light as a means of disinfection<br />
of DECT phones in a charging station. A study was conducted to identify the most<br />
efficient method of ultraviolet disinfection regarding objects. To achieve a high<br />
degree of disinfection UVB‐ or UVC‐radiation should be used as well as an<br />
encapsulation that prevents light from entering the disinfection chamber. To<br />
keep the light out is important to prevent photo reactivation of the bacteria<br />
extinguished by the ultraviolet light. A prototype charger station was<br />
subsequently constructed, using cognitive ergonomics as well as product design<br />
to make it well suitable for use in a hospital environment.<br />
