The sample of thestudy was composed of 316 (168 females, 148 males) students selected among studentsfrom different departments and programs of <strong>Ege</strong> University, Faculty of Education byusing random stratified sampling procedure in the spring semester of 2003-2004academic year. A Need Assessment Questionnaire developed by the researcher was usedfor the purpose of understanding needs, expectations and reactions of the students aboutpeer helping program. Results indicated that students preferred peer helpers amongother helping agents; they preferred both non-directive helping styles (empathicresponses) and directive helping styles (instrumental responses); they seemed to believethe helpfulness of the program; they tended to apply to the program; and they wantedthe program to concentrate on their career, academic, and interpersonal relationshipsconcerns.Key Words: Peer Helping Program, Need Assesment, University Students
