AUSTRALIAN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION Andreas Loefler Andreas Loefler is currently the President of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He works at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, a university teaching hospital, where he has been the Head of Department for 15 years. His interests are Spinal Surgery and Arthroplasty of the Hip and Knee. He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He also has a keen interest in Orthopaedic Outreach, with regular humanitarian missions to Fiji. Andreas made Ethics and Professionalism the topic of his presidency to emphasise the importance of these core values in medical practice. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a member of the Spine Society of Australia, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. D5 75 Toronto, Ontario, M4N 3M5 Robin Richards was born in Guelph, Ontario and attended McMaster University where he obtained BA (Geography - 1973) and MD (1976) degrees. He completed the University of Toronto Postgraduate Training Program in Orthopaedic Surgery and received his FRCSC in 1982. Dr. Richards was a MRC Fellow at Duke University in 1983 and joined the staff of St. Michael’s Hospital in 1984 where he was Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical Director of the Mobility Program, Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee and served on the Board. Dr. Richards was Head of the Department of Surgery and Co-Director of the Operating Room and Related Services at Sunnybrook HSC from 2001 - 2012. Dr. Richards maintains an active surgical practice focusing on arthroplasty of the shoulder and elbow, upper extremity reconstruction following trauma, soft tissue procedures to control joint instabilities in the upper extremity and the surgical treatment of irreparable brachial plexus injury. Dr. Richards is Vice Chair – Clinical of the University of Toronto Department of Surgery, Chair of the Awards and Internal Evaluation Committees, Medical Director of the Sunnybrook Working Condition Program and Sunnybrook Centre for Independent Living, Past Secretary-Treasurer of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and Past Deputy Editor for the Upper Extremity of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American). Dr. Richards is a member of the Ontario, Canadian and American Orthopaedic Associations and is Past-President of the Ontario Orthopaedic Association and Past-Secretary of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Richards enjoys stream fishing, cycling and wind-surfing. Dr. Richards has four children ages 26 – 34 and one grandchild. 8

He now has an entirely elective practice in lower limb arthroplasty and has specialised in Knee replacement and knee revision surgery for the last 26 years. He has a lifetime personal experience of over 2500 hip and 3500 knee replacements. He teaches widely on technical aspects of knee replacement and has been invited lecturer throughout the world and at the major European, North American and International Knee Surgery organisations. He is a founder member of the new European Knee Society. He is currently Secretary of Council of the Bone and Joint Journal. His research interests are mainly in Soft-tissue aspects of knee replacement and the outcome of primary and revision total knees. He is involved with managing the ODEP and Beyond Compliance systems for implant assessment and was involved in developing the NJR. He has previously served as President, Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He will be President of the British Orthopaedic Association for <strong>2016</strong>/17. 9
