September 17 was this year’s Confucius Institute
Day. We celebrated the special occasions with the
third Dragon Boat Festival in the Triangle area,
hosted by Asian Focus. Our CI has partnered with
them each year as one of the main sponsors and
to host a Chinese cultural booth. NC Secretary
of State, Elaine Marshall, US Congressman David
Price, Mr. Harold Weinbrecht Jr, Mayor of Cary,
Morrisville Town Councillor Steve Rao, and Lenovo
Executives attended the opening ceremony along
with over 15,000 community members.A total of 26
dragon boat racing teams from local communities
and schools participated in this event including the
NC State Office of International Affairs. There were
over 60 cultural and food booths, and Chinese
cultural performances for the entire day. Professor
Yang Mei danced and gained big applauses from
the audience. The CI set up a booth to share
Chinese culture by providing Chinese costumes
for people to try on, lanterns with Chinese idioms
written on them, and teaching people how to
trace Chinese calligraphy. Our booth stayed busy
the entire day as people waited in long lines to
experience Chinese culture. The CI was one of
the most popular and attractive booths as we
provided unique activities for participants. With the
celebration of the annual Confucius Day combined
with the Dragon Boat Festival, our CI was able to
reach a large audience to share about Chinese
language and culture to the local communities,
enriching the concept of the annual Confucius Day
with local community activities.
美 国 当 地 时 间 9 月 17 日 , 为 庆 祝 年 度 孔 子 学 院 日 暨 北 卡
州 大 孔 院 成 立 十 周 年 , 北 卡 州 大 孔 院 和 当 地 华 人 团 体 、
商 业 组 织 共 同 协 办 北 卡 三 角 区 第 三 届 龙 舟 大 赛 。 以 宣 传
亚 洲 文 化 为 核 心 的 龙 舟 赛 已 经 成 为 北 卡 三 角 区 一 年 一 度
的 重 要 活 动 , 赢 得 了 广 泛 关 注 。 本 届 大 赛 在 风 景 优 美 的
可 卡 露 天 剧 场 和 交 响 乐 湖 边 举 行 , 北 卡 州 务 卿 依 兰 · 马
歇 尔 女 士 、 国 会 议 员 大 卫 · 普 锐 斯 先 生 、 凯 瑞 市 市 长 哈 罗
德 · 温 布 瑞 克 特 先 生 、 莫 里 斯 维 尔 市 政 府 议 员 斯 蒂 文 · 饶
先 生 以 及 联 想 总 部 的 负 责 人 员 莅 临 现 场 , 参 加 了 龙 舟 点
睛 仪 式 并 观 看 了 比 赛 。 当 地 15000 多 民 众 热 情 参 与 , 各
大 新 闻 媒 体 也 对 本 次 盛 况 进 行 了 热 情 洋 溢 的 报 道 。
本 次 龙 舟 大 赛 有 来 自 华 人 商 业 组 织 、 各 个 大 学 和 龙 舟 爱
好 者 俱 乐 部 等 共 26 支 队 伍 参 加 , 并 有 60 余 个 文 化 美 食
展 台 , 和 中 国 文 化 表 演 。 作 为 协 办 者 之 一 , 北 卡 州 大 孔
院 在 中 央 场 地 搭 设 了 一 个 孔 院 文 化 展 台 用 以 传 播 中 华 文
化 , 杨 梅 老 师 表 演 了 精 彩 的 舞 蹈 “ 飞 天 ”, 均 受 到 热 烈
欢 迎 。 但 见 宣 传 台 前 , 孔 院 教 师 们 热 情 接 待 前 来 试 穿 中
国 民 族 服 饰 的 当 地 民 众 , 并 为 人 们 书 写 灯 笼 题 字 , 提 供
书 法 临 摹 。 孔 院 教 师 和 志 愿 者 们 还 向 人 们 发 放 具 有 中 国
特 色 的 小 礼 品 , 深 受 人 们 喜 爱 。 美 国 民 众 为 龙 舟 赛 队 加
油 助 威 之 余 , 纷 纷 驻 足 在 孔 院 宣 传 台 边 感 受 中 华 文 化 带
来 的 美 妙 体 验 , 他 们 有 的 全 家 簇 拥 在 传 统 服 饰 架 边 挑 选
心 仪 的 服 装 , 在 孔 院 教 师 帮 助 下 穿 戴 整 齐 并 拍 照 留 念 ;
有 的 排 队 等 候 书 写 灯 笼 和 书 法 临 摹 。 在 诸 多 展 台 中 , 孔
院 宣 传 台 从 头 至 尾 吸 引 了 最 多 的 民 众 。
北 卡 州 大 孔 院 借 助 此 次 活 动 宣 传 了 中 华 传 统 文 化 , 让 更
多 的 美 国 民 众 了 解 了 孔 院 的 工 作 和 作 用 , 用 行 动 诠 释
了 “ 孔 院 日 ” 的 含 义 。
