Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase 14 ทําหน ้ าทีจับคู่กรดอะมิโนกับ tRNA ทีเป็ นคู่กัน (cognate tRNA) เรียกขันตอนนีว่า activation of amino acid amino acid + ATP + tRNA PPi aminoacyl-tRNA + AMP + PPi 2Pi ขบวนการนีอาศัย Mg 2+ เป็ น cofactor และต ้ องการ ATP (2 ATP) เอนไซม์นีมี 20 ชนิด แต่ละชนิดจําเพาะกับกรดอะมิโนแต่ละตัว
