Kahn was formerly director of operations at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School. Prior to that, principal in the Glenview school system and assistant principal at Solomon Schechter Day School. Kahn, who resides in Glenview with his wife, Cheryl, and their three children is honored and humbled to be part of the BHBE community again, as both he and his wife have a strong history with the congregation. Cheryl Kahn grew up as a member of Beth Hillel. Michael has participated in the synagogue’s USY group. In addition, Beth Hillel’s cantor at the time officiated at their wedding. Faith Briefs First Congregational Church of Wilmette (1125 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette) Weekly Youth Activities Open to the Community Every Wednesday, the church’s children and youth ministry offers opportunities for fun, friendship, spirituality, and service. Kids Club (K–grade 6) meets at 4:30 p.m. In the evening, the Confirmation Class (grades 7 & 8) meets at 6 p.m. And the Senior High Youth Group gathers at 7:15 p.m. The two evening youth groups have a tasty dinner together at 6:45 p.m. — sometimes chicken, sometimes pasta. Winnetka Covenant Church (1200 Hibbard Road, Wilmette) Community Kitchen On the first and third Thursday of each month a group meets in the church kitchen to prepare food for the Community Kitchen of A Just Harvest. They start working at about 1 p.m. and continue until the food is prepared, about 3:30. All are invited to come and participate in as much of that time as you are available. Serve at a Just Harvest On the third Thursday of each month the church has an opportunity to serve the food that was prepared in our kitchen for the Just Harvest Community Kitchen from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Trinity United Methodist Church (1024 Lake Ave., Wilmette) Food Pantry If you are in need of help, and are short on food, do not hesitate to come to the Wilmette Food Pantry. The church is here to serve the community. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at the Wilmette Food Pantry. The food pantry is open from 10:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and provides grocery items and seasonal produce. All Wilmette residents are welcome and no appointment is necessary. Kenilworth Union Church (211 Kenilworth Ave., Kenilworth) Homecoming Kenilworth Union Church is hosting its annual Homecoming Sunday on Sept. 8, inviting both longtime and first-time churchgoers to a new season of worship and fellowship. Worship will take place at 8, 9, and 10:30 a.m., and the Sunday school program will also restart that morning. After the 10:30 worship, everyone is invited to stay for a food truck, bounce house, coffee and cookies. With attendees ranging from neighbors curious to get a peek at the church to families who have been members for generations, all are welcome and encouraged to join. Attendees will also be able to finally see the church after extensive summer renovations. While trucks, heavy duty machinery, and scaffolding have been hiding the church façade since June, churchgoers will at last be up close with the 127-yearold structure that has been freshly strengthened and fortified for generations to come.
