Wilmette’s Actors Training Center
selected for prestigious theater award

The Board of Directors
of the Illinois Theatre Association
has announced
the recipients of the esteemed
2019 Awards of
Excellence and Honor
with the Actors Training
Center in Wilmette taking
home the highest honor
for its educational contribution
to the Chicago
Theatre Community.
Annually since 1986,
the Illinois Theatre Association
recognizes individuals
and organizations
that have made significant
contributions to promoting
quality theatre
throughout the state. Candidates
are nominated by
representatives from Illinois’
vast theatre community,
approved by ITA’s
divisional representatives
and accepted by ITA’s
Board of Directors.
“We are thrilled to provide
this much-deserved
recognition to prime movers
in academic, community
and professional theatre
and to celebrate their
noteworthy accomplishments,”
said Aimee-Lynn
Newlan, ITA executive
director.
“I am thrilled that ATC
is being recognized for its
contribution to Chicago
theatre,” said Carole Dibo,
ATC founder. “When we
opened our doors in 2006
it was to fill a very specific
need - to bridge the gap
between those interested
in acting and the expectations
of that industry.
“Since then, we have
been working tirelessly to
provide all students with a
creative outlet, a welcoming
professional space,
and industry-grade training
with top Chicago actors
and directors, acting
as mentors and teachers.”
ATC has helped hundreds
of students to feel
comfortable in their own
skin, learn and work collaboratively
with peers
and mentors, form lasting
bonds with new friends,
and even land roles on
Broadway, in touring
companies, on television,
and in feature films. As
its motto states, ATC students
“Train to Work” and
“Learn for Life”.
“Carole runs a program
that is equally focused on
understanding and fulfilling
your passion as an actor
and also understanding
and fulfilling the needs
of the business. That’s a
great thing to be able to
teach young actors,” said
Rachel Brosnahan, ATC
alum and recent Golden
Globe winner for Best
Performance by An Actress
in a Television Series
for the Amazon series,
“The Marvelous Mrs.
Maisel.”
Honorees and guests
will join together at an
awards presentation during
the Illinois Theatre
Association’s Annual Red
Carpet Gala, Drury Lane
Theatre, Oakbrook, on
Saturday, Aug. 24.
