It displays thousands of pieces of American candy memorabilia and represents decades of collecting candy equipment and artifacts. (bottom) Molds used to make candy in a variety of shapes. An Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain In the old days, according to Jill Schimpf, most candy stores had ice cream soda fountains because candy was difcult to sell in the summer without air conditioning. Even though Schimpf’s Confectionery has had air conditioning for decades, this hasn’t stopped them from keeping customers cool. The store has had a soda fountain since 1921 and has had the current fountain in operation since 1941, where customers can a get a taste of authentic fountain drinks. Schimpf’s is also know for its ice cream treats including sundaes, malts, foats and shakes. • The Schimpf’s fountain menu includes shakes, malted milks, sundaes (hot fudge, caramel, chocolate, cherry, pineapple, strawberry, or vanilla), banana splits, A&W Root Beer foats, ice cream, old-fashioned Cokes, favored Cokes, and more! Stop by on your birthday for a free Turtle Sundae. Stop by for a full meal and order from the soup and sandwich menu. You can even top your meal of with cake, brownies, cobbler, pecan pie (on Wednesdays only) or the fruit or cream pie of the day. Pictured: An old-fashioned chocolate soda.
