Now that Delray Beach is a rising star in the art, culture and social
scene, it might seem a little difficult to find affordable activities, shops
or restaurants. I am here to prove you wrong. Delray Beach offers a mix
of high-end boutiques with laid-back restaurants, and events for the
whole family or nightclubs for night owls. Here is what you can do in
Delray Beach in October for $50 or less.
Move over, Atlantic Avenue, there’s
another cat in town. October is
Self-Promotion Month and Pineapple
Grove is doing just that with their
Grove Week. Although Pineapple Grove
used to be just a sleepy tangent street
to the Avenue, it now boasts some of the
hottest retail, fitness, entertainment and
dining spots in Delray. Grove Week is held
October 3 through 8 and features activities
and promotions all week long. Start
off by burning some fun calories with
Fleet Feet and PurLife on October 3 with
their 6 p.m. boot camp and 7 p.m. recess
run and games. October 4 is National
Taco Day so enjoy a performance by the
Hispano Latino Cultural Alliance at 7 p.m.
as you dine on tacos and margaritas at
El Camino. On The Ave is held October 5
from 5 to 9 p.m. with street closure and
drum circle at Old School Square Park.
Throwback Thursday is October 6 where
you’re invited to have dinner in the Grove
and go back in time at the Silent Disco
at The Fieldhouse ($15 online or at the
door). Enjoy the First Friday Artwalk on
October 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. as you take a
self-guided tour of the fine art galleries
and working studios downtown. Finally,
“take it easel” on October 8 from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. with a guided artwalk tour, easels
set up in the Grove to paint, and live
music at City Walk. Who knew the Grove
had so much to offer, so holla for the selfpromotion!

Hooray for Halloween! It’s the one
time of the year when all social
morals and etiquette are thrown
out the window (at least, for me) and
you’re free to get down on your socially
unacceptable costumes, or just costumes
in general. Due to the fact that Halloween
falls on a Monday this year, all celebrating
is taking place on Saturday, October 29.
Start the day off at 8 a.m. with the Fifth
Annual Witches of Delray Bike Ride. Put
on your witch costume, decorate your
bike and ride for charity. The $20 rider
fee goes to the Achievement Center
and you’ll be rewarded by
a 6- to 7-mile ride through
local Delray, ending at the
GreenMarket for the opening
day. The GreenMarket is
open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
at Old School Square Park
and features all of the locally
sourced produce, meat
and goods that you’ll ever
need. If you want to mingle
with the other Halloweeners,
head to the Avenue for
trick-or-treating and the
Halloween parade at 11:30
a.m. Once you’ve had your
candy fill, make your way to Veteran’s
Park at 1 p.m. for Kidsfest, featuring
entertainment, a bounce house, food
vendors, a make-and-take craft area and
more. There’s so many Halloween activities
to do you better pick a costume that
